Great end to SPFL Premiership Season

What an end to the season.  Any one of three sides can finish in 2nd Place and the position at the bottom leaves three clubs facing the prospect of relegation or play off.  Nerve tingling for managers,  players and fans of the clubs involved but games mean something right up until the last week. Can't wait to see us test ourselves there next season.

Are we in the pantomime  season already? You must be a hard man to please. I guess .only a guess...that you aren't looking forward to next season in the Premiership. Mind you...an equally exciting end to the Championship and the First and Second Division.  Scottish football is in a good place.

After today's scores:

Battle for 2nd

2) Aberdeen P37 - 70pts - GD+18

3) Sevco P37 - 69pts - GD+26

4) Hibs P36 - 66pts - GD+17

(Green Bigots guaranteed 1st, Kilmarnock guaranteed 5th, Hearts guaranteed 6th)

FT: Aberdeen 1-1 Sevco. Hearts v Hibernian tomorrow gives the Hibees the chance to close the gap and stay in the fight for 2nd.

Relegation Battle

10) Hamilton Academical 33pts - GD-18

11) Partick Thistle 30pts - GD-31

12) Ross County 28pts - GD-22

('Well 7th, level on points with Fakes. GD is in favour to 'Well by 2. Dundee guaranteed 9th)

Barring the most ridiculous weekend, Hamilton Academical look safe as a GD swing of 13 is required to drop them down a place. Ross County have to win with Partick drawing or losing for the playoff spot, GD is in favour to RC so it's all about the results. A win for Partick guarantees the playoff spot (excluding bizarre scorelines which would see them 10th) and would send RC down.

Final fixtures are Motherwell v Hamilton Academical, Dundee FC v Partick Thistle, St Johnstone v Ross County.

Amazingly tight for 2nd Place.

Just a thought..... If Celtic lose to Aberdeen then the Dons finish in second place.... So ensuring that Sevco (or Hibs)  don't!

Tempting?

If Hibs win their last 2 games sevco are guaranteed 4th place. That and a Mothetwell Cup win and Thistle winning the play off would be a nice end to a most enjoyable season.

I would second that.

No, it's more specific than that.

Being 2 points behind Thistle they have to win and hope Thistle don't . Merely bettering their result, eg drawing and Thistle losing, won't be enough.

My mistake. It sounded right in my head  that's what 5am starts at work do to you when evening comes around...

I was thinking the same here. It's "in Aberdeen's hands" as the phrase goes albeit an away match to Celtic isn't exactly favourable. Each lower position would probably lead the Sevvies to start earlier on the EL qualifiers thus making their path to the groups harder, in turn possibly shafting them out of more cash. It would definitely be in  Celtic's interests to have an off day.

Alternatively Celtic do have a current love-in with Hibs due to Neil Lennon being manager, and knowing Hibs are more than capable of beating the Sevvies, Celtic may want to do their club legend a favour.

The SPFLs standing within the UEFA coefficient is now so bad that both entrants through league position have to go in at the 1st qualifying round.
Only the Scottish Cup winning route gets you straight into the 2nd qualifying round.

That's true actually, I've just looked at this year's competition and realised the Fakes and Sevvies entered in Q1 together. If Celtic win the Cup my point is valid at least! It might have been two or three years ago it was a staggered entrance into qualification.

Celtic have only one thing to play for tomorrow.

I'm fully expecting to see Forrest in goal with Marvin Compper getting a rare runout, but only if, 1) his injury hasn't cleared up and 2) the man from "Go Compare" isn't available.

Seriously. Get your money on the "Famous Aberdeen",  'cause Cellic are likely to do St. Mirren, 1986.

With Aberdeen's recent record against Celtic the Dons would probably still manage to f**k that up

Bottom 6 Final Day

Battle for 7th - Motherwell and St Johnstone level on points, 'Well have GD advantage by 2.

9th - Dundee FC.

10) Accies 33pts -18

11) Partick 30pts -31

12) Ross County 28pts -22

Ross County need victory to have a chance of survival. GD is in their favour if they win and Thistle draw. GD swing of 13 needed for Thistle to drop Accies into the playoff (plus Thistle need a win coupled with Accies defeat). Accies turn to lose 10-2? The 'Well have their own GD battle and would certainly be happy to oblige and smash their rivals to pieces.

Fixtures

Dundee v Partick Thistle

Motherwell v Hamilton Academical

St Johnstone v Ross County

Bottom 6 Results

Dundee FC 0-1 Partick Thistle

Motherwell 3-0 Hamilton Academical

St Johnstone 1-1 Ross County

Motherwell finish 7th, must be considered as a good season with two cup finals, hopefully they do the business next week. St Johnstone 8th. Dundee FC 9th.

10) Hamilton Academical 33pts (-21) SAFE

11) Partick Thistle 33pts (-30) PLAYOFF

12) Ross County 28pts (-22) RELEGATED

I'd say congratulations to Hamilton for surviving but regardless of a GD advantage of 13 pre-match, getting gubbed 3-0 by your rivals (who's bigger concern is the final next week) is a totally shite effort of guaranteeing safety. So f**k them. Nadir Cifti (who's scored once since joining in Jan) netted twice with Tom Aldred adding a third.

Partick's focus on their win was mainly to avoid automatic relegation so they are safe...for now. Long serving Thistle player Kris Doolan netted the crucial goal on 63mins.

And that was it for Ross County. RC started brightly when Craig Curran scored 3mins in. They couldn't add to their lead though and as Partick were edging their way towards a narrow victory, RC killed off their own hopes when David Wotherspoon equalised for St Johnstone on 90+2. Highland derbies next year but unfortunately for the northerners it's back to Championship derbies.

Good summary Cornwall and still 2 games to go to decide the last spot in the Premiership.

Glad we have our spot booked!

Must be a nervous time for Thistle Fans and an Exciting one for Livi Fans.

Got to be good for the game.
