Well, that was shite wasn't it? After a great win away in Edinburgh we let Partick outfight and arguably outplay us today. Thank god they can't score goals.
Some decent performances (Goodwin, McGregor) but the worrying thing was the complete lack of shape, organisation or anything resembling tactics. Why did Campbell play so deep? Why did we never have more than 1 player in their box? Why are our midfielders so slow in running forward when we are in possession?
Today wasn't good enough and for Lennon to blame it on the weather pretty much sums him up.

We were unbelievable in first half our attacking football was brilliant a joy to watch we really did look like a class team everyone played there part thought wee Adam campbell was top man tho quick and dangerous going forward and his work rate was exceptional gowser looked back 2 his best mcginn and thommo played well too. I really do not understand why we did not keep going at hibs 2nd half they couldn't live with us I don't know if its a tactical thing or a mental thing. Goodwin was very unlucky he gets chopped down from the back no card but he shoulder challenges the hibs guy and is booked. Poor show from hibs tho charging £12 for young kids I think our club is spot on with the fiver for kids pricing. enjoyable day out though

absolutely Hambud. It really is ridiculous and a disgrace how Jim is being treated by the media, authorities and other managers.
I honestly think Jim, Danny and St Mirren are seen as soft touches. No way would the captain of certain other clubs be treated like that.
That booking yesterday was nonsense and for the highlights to put the spotlight on it was sinister and wicked. FFS, if they did that to Scott Brown Neil Lennon would have been spitting feathers all over every media outlet.
We really need to Danny to speak up and speak up now....loud and clear. No holds barred.
And we could do with someone on Sportscene tonight to defend Jim also when they, inevitably, flag it up.

This witch hunt is getting beyond ridiculous as proven yet again today. A nothing challenge results in a booking which is explicitly promoted by the SPFL Youtube channel. Absolutely scandalous.

I've openly criticised the manager and players recently for their performances so it's only fair that I say a big well done tonight. Wasn't at the game but what pleases me most is people saying that we came out the blocks and played some great football from the off to get into a commanding lead - great to hear we played with some belief.
Sounds like we need to keep accommodating Campbell out wide and he can do a lot of damage.
Finally, there is no point winning away to Hibs if we can't follow it up with a win at home next weekend against one of our biggest rivals for the play off spot so I hope the players come out with the right attitude next Saturday.

Bossed the first half with some quite frankly brilliant football. The level of performance of everyone in a Saints shirt (especially the young guys) in the first 45 should give everyone genuine cause for optimism. Second half was a predictable barrage of pressure and the defence was a bit shaky but it's one hell of an away win. Butcher's face at half-time....priceless.

Can't comment directly on the game, as I wasn't there, but it seems that we have managed to negotiate a route straight back to the mire.
We appear to have seen the corner approaching, crapped ourselves that the bogeyman might be lurking round it, and scurried off back the way we came.
Just when you start to believe that Saints are moving in the right direction, a swift boot in the stones is administered to remind you how this really works.
Ach well, it is not as if we are not used to it.

If Danny is still our manager next season I'll be flabbergasted. He's overstayed his welcome and I can only hope the Board of Directors have enough intelligence to see that he is failing badly at his job.
The telling sign for me is the nature and predictability of our defeats - its not as if the last few games we have competed, or had a lot of chances which we failed to convert - with the exception of the Dundee Utd game (which, to be honest flattered us as the game could have went weither way at one point) we have been played off the park - no shots on goal against Celtic, absolutely dominated by St. Johnstone, relinquishing a lead at Kilmarnock. God, we couldn't even beat the worst Hearts team in decades at home after going into a lead after a few minutes. Our away form especially is, quite frankly, scandalous. I barely make away games any more but i expect us to lose every away game as I don't think the players have any belief that they can win. It shouldn't be like that.
Danny is obviously a very nice man, cares deeply about the club and takes his job seriously - of that I have no doubt. However, he is out of his depth and suffering from the same mistakes over and over. Every transfer window passes and ends with us trying to pick up scraps and emerging from it with our fans looking at clubs around us with green eyes wondering why we haven't signed those players. Even the past week or so - Ross County & Partick, our 2 biggest rivals for the play-off spot, go out and sign quality strikers, both of who scored 2 goals today. We pin all our hopes on a 19yr old loan signing who has hardly played 1st team football! (not that I'm having a go at Campbell, who may well be very talented, but won't get any more goals if our tactics are to ping long balls at him when he is being marked by a guy 1 foot taller than him!).
Is the big problem that no-one at the club has any ambition and are happy to accept mediocrity, and the occasional 3 points where things "click" on the day? Are the board happy travelling to away games every 2 weeks, only to leave with their heads held in embarrasment having watched the guys they pay a salary to mess it up yet again? Whatever they think, I honestly think we should expect more from the team and manager. The fans are being short changed.

Right, just back ..........here we go
Rode our luck in the first half, 0-0 opportunity knocks. Second half.........
Tactics all wrong ! We had to step it up and look to develop some play further up the park, keep Thommo as a focal point only up front, he was clearly knackered after the first half chasing back routine.
We sat far far far too deep , we invited the inevitable passes into the first goal, backing off people with unbelievable naivety. Feck knowswhat happened in the half time team talk but we looked to be lacking in any belief, any ambition at all after the break. We should have been up and after a team on our patch that were struggling to find form and rhythm......... held them and dodged a bullet, but no.
We lacked any response, we looked totally lethargic, we had no snap , no pace, no idea of an out ball , no clue at all about working the ball into channels, we looked bereft of fitness and as for lack of first touch I'm still mystified how a top team can fail so often to pass a ball to a player ahead of him on the park. The minute we lost the goal , frankly we chucked it.
I'm appalled , dismayed, annoyed, sick.
Default for 2014........ On that form , well unless we snap into some defending discipline and instruct McGinn to carry the ball forward more often, we are headed for relegation play off misery, again !
Anyway, Happy new year , every buddie !

I think I know why - because he played dreadfully. He wasn't our worst player. but honestly don't see what everyone sees in Connor. Take away his goal in the cup final, when is the last time he influenced a game? There are plenty young players who will chase every ball, close down men and then shite out of tackles - why do we need someone on loan from the EPL to do this!

Groundhog day. Until we instil a different mentality we will continue to get pumped when up against teams like this. Watched some of Gary birtles interview yesterday when he talked about Brian clough and how he had his team believe the could beat anyone. That's how you make up for shortcomings. The capitulation of our players when we go behind is nothing short of disgraceful. I would rather see players cautioned or sent off getting stuck in and demonstrating that going behind hurts them. Our Danny is too nice. Maybe behind closed doors he is different. I just wish that publicly he would talk up his teams chances. A team quite often reflects the managers personality. I'm all for nice passing, pretty football but not when it means fighting relegation every season. It's not unreasonable to expect whoever leads our club to have learned from their mistakes. It would appear that Danny continues to make the same mistakes eg unsuccessful signings, poor substitutions , changing a winning team to name but a few. Danny is clearly a nice guy, but a winner? I feel this transfer window is his very last chance to show he has learned something. If not then I fear it's goodbye

Good article on the BBC page today, asking fans of 11 SPFL clubs to give their thoughts on signings... ...
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25534679
Not sure who this muppet is... but here are his thoughts!!!
St Mirren supporter Dave MacDonald.Who do you want the club to sign?
Our main problem we have is an over-reliance on Steven Thompson up front. We have already secured Adam Campbell on loan from Newcastle for the rest of the season, who is seemingly very quick and skilful, but we will undoubtedly struggle if Thommo gets injured. If we can't keep Marian Kello and Conor Newton, then they would also be big shoes to fill.
Any player(s) you'd be happy to wave goodbye to?
Most of the summer recruits haven't worked out, which is really why we had such an abysmal start to the season. David Cornell is a cert to return to Swansea, Kealan Dillon has already gone, as has Stephane Bohaken and it looks like Jake Caprice might be off too. I've been really disappointed in both Danny Grainger and Gary Harkins too, neither of whom look like they are willing to work hard to regain their starting places.
Summer signing(s) that have still to prove themselves?
As above, I think Gary Harkins and Danny Grainger have been the major disappointments. Harkins has unquestioned ability but can't be accommodated in central midfield as he isn't anywhere near as good as Paul McGowan. Grainger came with high expectations but never really got going and, frankly, young Sean Kelly who has replaced him has been a revelation.
Which player(s) must you absolutely keep during the window?
John McGinn, Kenny McLean and Paul McGowan are all central to our forward play and it would be great to keep Conor Newton for the rest of the season too.
Is there a player(s) who has pleasantly surprised you this year?
I think both young full-backs - Jason Naismith and Sean Kelly - pretty much saved Danny Lennon's bacon this season. Both came into the team at roughly the same time and the energy and positivity in their play has been a joy to behold. Naismith is incredibly strong whilst Kelly has a keen eye for goal. Both have been absolutely superb and it was great to see the club reward them both with new contract extensions.
If money was no object, who would you love to see at your club?
Although Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably now the best in the world, I think Luis Suarez would provide a better foil for Steven Thompson. He'd certainly give us that extra bite up front.
Favourite signing of all time for your club?
Although we have been fortunate to have some truly exceptional players at the club over the years, it's hard to look past Steven Thompson as being one of the great coups for St Mirren. As a boyhood fan he bleeds black and white, and his goalscoring ratio for a club our size is phenomenal. His cathartic moment in the League Cup final of 2013 cemented his place as a bona fide club legend.

    Official club statement
"As a Club we were disappointed to find one of our players singled out for criticism by another Football Club both in the media and thereafter on their website. We accept that football is a game of opinions but we find this unacceptable.
As a Club, we have on many occasions been aggrieved by decisions, tackles and challenges made on our players. We have, however, dealt with such matters behind closed doors, via the appropriate channels and in a professional manner.
We are of the view that one Club should not be commenting on another Club’s players in public and feel that these issues should be dealt with by the governing body (Scottish FA) to protect the integrity of the game."

Danny f**ked that game up for us with his pish tactics and I hope to god he knows this! It's all been said on this thread already but, injury to Mair or not, there were other options that were better than moving Grainger to CB and playing Van Zanten in the engine room - he's been a great servant, and I understand that he is a brilliant guy, but I'm sorry he isn't good enough anymore (and hadn't been for some time).
Also, Newton really needs to grow a set of balls - shites out of 60/40 tackles in his favour, gets caught out of position all the time and generally looks like a headless chicken. Yes, he has a bit if ability technically but he needs to toughen up.
On a positive note, I bow to you again John McGinn - bloody tremendous son.

Let's use the negative press(which has kind of overshadowed a terrific result against united) to motivate the team. We must be doing something right if other managers are whining about us. For too long we were ever so nice to visiting teams, giving them great facilities and a wee present of three nice points. Not any more! Let's show the rest of this league we won't be bullied by anyone.

Poor misunderstood Jim, The world's got it in for him, The referees, the opposition, Danny Lennon, the Dundee United manager. Even the Black and White Army seems to be getting the finger pointed at them. Is Jim innocent? He's brought it all on himself and has only himself to blame. We keep hearing he has only been sent off twice so he must have received a hell of a lot of yellow cards when we see how often he has been suspended. He's no good to us when he's suspended as he surely will be after yesterday. I've seen many a player who has been harder than Jim but they knew when to stop. Jim has brought a lot to St.Mirren and has been a great captain but at his age it's time he caught a grip, We have a small first team pool and it's bad enough juggling the players when we have injuries without losing key players through their own stupidity.
There have been a couple of comments along the lines of what Jim does is all part and parcel of the game and it's all OK. Macho nonsense. Football is and always will be a contact sport but lifting a hand, elbow or boot to an opponent has always been foul play and nowadays with cameras at virtually every game it's harder to get away with it. I have no complaint about that. In this forum almost every week the word 'cheat' crops up aimed at opposition players or teams. But quite a few on this forum think it's all OK. if our players cheat. It isn't.
