  1. .... and did anyone notice that no planes took off or landed throughout the whole game?
  2. "Fools. Bureaucratic fools. They don't know what they've got there." - Indiana Jones at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  3. So, you being there but not hearing what was said/shouted, what is the basis of your assertion that there was foul and abusive language directed by Jack Ross to the referee? (I wasn't there so just interested to know)
  4. Slightly surprised to see that Jim Clunie was our most successful manager (45.07% win percentage) - better than Alex Ferguson. During his reign, we won the Anglo-Scottish Cup and were third in the league(?). Mind you, he inherited Alex's team and was provided with funds to bring in some good players (e.g., brought in Dougie Somner and broke the then Scottish transfer record with McDougall, etc.). Then somehow it went bad and watching Saints was no longer a joy to watch and big Jim left for Kilmarnock (where things didn't go too well for him there).
  5. I was at the game and remember feeling particularly aggrieved about the chalked off goal. But now that I see it again, it was offside ... although a bit harsh as Lexie was hardly interfering with play in my opinion. As for the new/old Rangers comments, if it had happened to us I would still look on the Saints as the same club. But maybe it helps that I'm a Doctor Who fan and quite happily accept the 'regeneration' bit when they get a new actor in!
  6. Well done, lad. Welcome back to the fold. We're only human and we were all hurting bad back in them dark winter days and some us (understandably) were not thinking straight. COYS!
  7. (Just catching up on some notifications - boy, so much good water has passed under the bridge since then - but sorry, folks, had to reply to this) Heh, Bud, where did you get this "I'm a better fan than you, 'cos I'm prepared to see us get relegated" posturing from guys like yourself" - you're quoting somebody else. Where did I say I was a better fan than you? - you're making it up. And why would I want to impress you? Sorry I appear to have missed how important you are - could you please explain who you are, how important you are and why we should feel the need to impress you? Looking back on the early posts, I was not impressed with your indecision on the proposition to sack Ross with only 3 weeks of the transfer window left. Initially, on day one (7 January), you were"willing to think about it,” later saying "I'm undecided but considering the question is most certainly not NUTS!” before deciding, "Thinking about it I'd give Ross till the end of the season but if we're relegated in 10th position I'd be inclined to fire him.” For the rest of us who held our nerve, it was a no brainer (for all of the reasons mentioned in other member's posts), with the vast majority recognising that it made more sense for him to stay, permanently or for the time being (as you eventually concluded yourself) depending on individual points of view. Strangely enough, given the vast number of posts in this thread (which I have tried to ignore since day one, but finally succumbed, because it was so daft), from the initial posts (I gave up and got back to my life after page 9), aside from the doubters and 'just not fans of Ross' brigade, it only appears that TopCat (should it now be 'Benny'?), Dave The Buddie and Stuart Dickson actually wanted Ross to go at that time.
  8. This thread was started on January 7 before the end of the January transfer window with Jack Ross found guilty, apparently, on the basis that he failed to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. Utter nonsense. I can only think that Topcat and the others who agreed with him were on a low ebb at the time and so their judgement was impaired .... or they are just absolute fan**es. We're still not out of the mire and may yet be relegated but, with Jack's new squad, the football is entertaining and we now have a fighting chance. Whatever happens, I'm perfectly happy for him to be in charge next year.
  9. I agree. Particularly on that drab grey wall in the East Stand.
  10. The rule of law must be upheld, TT. By not doing so, you are setting a dangerous precedent. If a law doesn’t suit you, it is for Parliament to propose, debate and agree on the amendments and pass a new law. This is the kind of thing that safeguards our freedom.
  11. Meanwhile, back to the thread .... this indicates "Pal" is "pal." https://translate.google.co.uk/?bav=on.2,or.&bvm=bv.144224172,d.d2s&biw=1420&bih=743&dpr=1&sns=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&client=tw-ob#no/en/Pal Fjelde [click loudspeaker icon to hear pronounciation]
  12. Lucky enough to be seated at that corner. Morgan's skill was mesmerising. First, two Raith players moved in on him and Shankland, then three, then four! The Raith players were going mad! Shankland showed off some good touches too! Brilliant!
  13. First things first. The reality is that our objective this season is to avoid relegation. Forget play-offs. As for today's game, I didn't feel there were two goals in it nor did I feel, as the Utd. manager said to the BBC, that they deserved to win. I'm not alone in thinking this. The BBC has Saints with 52% possession, 12 shots on goal compared to Utd.'s 8. We had 7 shots on target. They had 3! We had 6 corners - they had 4. We played very well but as we all know, our problem is we lack the killer instinct (one of Utd.'s scorers is on loan from Norwich and that quality counted). The Utd. goals did not come from sustained attacking moves. Both goals came from runs up the park. It is really simple. We're not scoring and we're letting in daft goals. We're also slow on the counter-attack at times - favouring retaining possession - no bad thing - but allowing the opposition to fall back and regroup. Our options are limited. We can only trust that Jack Ross can instill better organisation and confidence until the transfer window. Depending on the finances at that point, we may then find that all we can do is shuffle loan players. Despite being beaten again today, I'm strangely optimistic. I said to my pal when we were being beaten by QOS that I thought QOS flattered to deceive and that one day, some team will hammer a barrel load past them. Today, Morton hammered them 5-0. I think we've still got a lot of good players. We've got to get behind them. At the ground, during a game, shut your mouths when it comes to negativity. It's starting to annoy me that some fans remain silent throughout the game but when the chips are down, when they do shout, all they can make are negative comments. How the f*** does that help? Look. We're up against the ropes now. If you are a true Saints fan and you've got to shout, focus on the good stuff .... or lie!
  14. Agreed, a great player who, if he had played for an English club like Martin Buchan, would have had more Scotland caps. And yes, I do believe there was a falling out with the previous board, severely enough that when I last spoke to him (about a year or so ago?), he had never set foot in the new stadium as result. I don't know if he has since set foot in the stadium but it will be good to see him back again.
  15. Yep. Also saw it. Politely told by pal, "if you say so." Good to know others saw it too.
  16. I know. Murder polis! Some of them are more like foxholes! p.s. not a cloud in the sky this morning here in Houston. D'oh!
  17. So appropriate that on the day we paid tribute to him with a minute's applause, we won 3-1. The same score as the 1959 Cup Final. Also thought it was a nice touch to show footage of that game on the big screen.
  18. Found this link to a Norwich City fans forum. Loads of tributes and a couple of videos of the wee man in action. http://services.pinkun.com/forums/pinkun-forums/cs/forums/2/3339044/ShowPost.aspx#3339044
  19. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34788728 St MIrren supporter, player and ...... [fill in the blank] {actually, Id have either Paul Lambert or Stuart McCall as manager - dream on, eh?} [Oooops. Just noticed there's already a topic on Paul Lambert(!) Excuse? Well, just back home from celebrating my daughter getting her Ph.d. So, do I care? No really! All the best to my fellow Saints supporters. Yeehoo!]
  20. The result is no great surprise given their recent form and ours. Visiting teams must also take heart from our poor home record. Miller's influence won't start to take effect for some time yet, perhaps not until after the next transfer window. Given our away form, perhaps the best thing to do in the short term is to play 'away' tactics at home until we start to string together some results and get the home confidence up again. Won't be pretty but at least we'll be happier overall at 4.45 on a Saturday.
  21. I hope we win. But for Danny's sake, I hope we only win 1-0 and make his team like good . .......... which I'm sure we are capable of .......
  22. Quick change of subject. Quite happy to see the Dundee United hypocrites languishing at the bottom of the table and McNamara getting his books. For me, the witch hunt against Goody, first by them, then the BBC and the refs started from the time we hammered them 4-1 at Greenhill Road two seasons ago. Granted Goody has been his own worst enemy on many an occasion (and even I have lost patience with his antics) but we're still seeing the aftermath of the witch hunt 2 years later with opposition players diving and feigning injury, their fans howling whenever he puts in a tackle and little to no protection for him from refs.
  23. Quick visit to the forum so don't have time to read all posts on this thread. Has anyone looked at the stats for the last 5 games (all comps)? Hibs have won their last 5 games, scoring 9 goals, conceding none. We've lost 3, won 1, drawn 1, scoring 8 goals, conceding 9. If we get a draw today, it will be a great result. COYS!
