  1. Like the rest of us on this forum, I want St Mirren to win every game we play, however, I am also aware that we do not have a divine right for this to happen. This however, does not exonerate the start that Robinson has made, which, being honest, is far from brilliant (or even acceptable). Against Motherwell, we only had 5 players on the bench, of which one was a keeper, and another was Curtis Main. That leaves 3 players, hardly a plethora of options. Why is that? Goodwin in his wisdom sanctioned that younger players should be sent out on loan, as opposed to being integrated into the first team squad. The way contracts are now structured makes it difficult, (if not impossible) to recall players from loan spells. Therefore, they’re unavailable for selection, hence our shite bench We were also credited as being defensively sound under Goodwin, we weren’t really? We were lucky that we had very good keepers in Hladky and Alnwick. On average we were conceding 14 shots a game. But they were both excellent keepers. Lyness is good, but not in the same category. Very rarely under Goodwin, did we play football that had us out our seats. When we won, it was generally by the odd goal. We played efficient football. The season we finished 7th we were awarded 8 (eight) penalties. We were also fortunate enough to have McGrath. This season we have been awarded 3(three) penalties. We also forget that this season under Goodwin we had a run of 6 games without a win. Its easy to point the finger at Robinson, but going in anywhere as a Manager is hard, as a football manager Its harder, because you have to deliver your job in front of 4,000 experts week in, week out. Robinson will get there, but he needs at least one, if not two, transfer windows. He needs his own players to impose his own ideas. Yeah, he’s made mistakes, is PR isn’t quite as good as Jack Ross or Jim Goodwin. Likewise, he doesn’t have the kudos of a previous connection to the club. We need to remember that Jim (I’m here for the long haul) Goodwin jumped ship at the first opportunity, as did Jack (I’ll whore myself to the highest bidder) Ross. Robinson has come in under very trying circumstances, and has really had no time so far. He’ll get there though. I think we’ll stay up. It might be bumpy, but that’s the St Mirren way. The future will be brighter.
  2. This was a very strange game. First half, we were unplayable, second half we were chronic. Whilst it is relatively easy to point the finger at Robinson, he can only piss with the cock he has. Our squad is very imbalanced. We have a pretty good midfield , with some real quality. The defence is passable, but does tend to switch off sometimes. Up front? Brophy looks decent, but, in my opinion, I think needs a partner. Grieve looks exciting, and seem to know where the goal is. Main, isn’t even good enough to get injured or sent off. He’s always available for selection. When he plays, we’re effectively a man short. This is the legacy Goodwin has left us. He could set us up to not get beat, but he was never the messiah. I won’t deride what Goodwin did for the club, but what Robinson has inherited is a hard act to follow. The club has been shocked with Godwin’s departure. Robinson has to win over the players and supporters. He needs time and a transfer window, Main needs freed.
  3. Was listening to "half Man half biscuit" whilst doing one or two other things, and the track that came on was "big guy up front".. Never mentioned Curtis Main once, but did mention football in the park (which is really about his level)
  4. I suspect I’m like many other contributors, in as much I would really prefer Jim Goodwin to stay, then move at a future date (which he will), however, I think there is a lot of “primacy and recency” being displayed here. Currently we are sitting 6th (woo hoo), and actually capable of hitting the top 4 (sorry for sounding a bit Tony Fitzpatrick.) However, we did have a fairly shocking run mid-season where we couldn’t win, or even score. But what is impressive, is that JG wanted to play a 3-5-2, and persevered with that until Christmas. Post the break, Jim analysed what had happened, and changed his tactics, went to a flat back 4 and we went on a phenomenal run, and now sit 6th. The board stuck with him – and were rewarded. JG wouldn’t necessarily have got that time elsewhere. He also had a shocking run last season too. If Jim is offered the Aberdeen Job, and decides to take it, we are a much better proposition to a potential new manager than we have been for a long time. I just hope, if Jim leaves, the board don’t f**k it up and appoint an Alex Rae clone.
  5. If we could get £150k for either Main or Erwin, that would be the equivalent of winning the euro millions lottery on a multiple rollover. But like euromillions, it’s unlikely to happen.
  6. Thank goodness. It just dawned on me joe was Griff, but nicknames mean little really. P
  7. Surely that's not the same Gordon Urquart who produced SQ?
  8. I was looking to buy a couple of tickets online for this game for my friend, who works in London. They don't yet appear to be for sale online yet. Is this common, or is it a service provider issue?
  9. Got to feel for Greg Tansey. Unfortunately being a footballer, injury is an occupational hazard. Tansey possibly wound up with us because no one else would touch him. That said, I hope it’s not too serious although it does appear to have ended his career though as pointed out it was a pre-existing injury. However, for all professional footballers every game could be your last. All the best Greg Tansey.
  10. Tickets to see Pop will eat itself, supported by the Wonderstuff and Jesus Jones. Cracking gig
  11. Prior to the game last night I would have settled for not getting turned over and a bit of determination and shape. After that what can I say apart from "Thanks Oran, that was fantastic" if that what he can do after a week, we might actually be ok this season (no pun intended). If we can win the big games (Livingston, St Johnstone, Motherwell and Dundee, Kilmarnock) we should survive.
  12. Makella looked decent in his first game caught a bad injury and the rest is history.
  13. Or even Alex Rae who I have mentally unpersonned.
  14. Management is hard at the best of times, made harder by having to do it in public and be judged by 4000 people on the spot. When Jack was appointed, he initially benefitted from not being Tom**y C*aig in the same way that AS is hamstrung by not being Jack Ross. He deserves to be cut a bit of slack until it goes pear shaped. It might go bad or he may be pep Guardiola. We need to wait and see. Give it few monrhs, then assemble a lynch party if necessary. Hopefully we'll be fine. The premier was aLways going to be hard. Patience.
  15. This season could be one where should go to the football out of habit whereas last season was actually enjoyable ( an anomaly). This season will be grinding and very trying. Good luck Alan.
  16. Perhaps I'm in the ,minority here but I'm a touch worried with what Stubbs is doing. I know he has to build a squad to compete in the premier but he's letting some decent players go and replacing them with unknown quantities. I know we have to trust his judgement but it's all starting to look a bit chaotic. They might be brilliant but we still haven't had the chance to see them yet tonight could be interesting. But after last season Ross will be a hard act to follow.
  17. I was just thinking of Greenhill Road. I may be wrong but I think Ralston is a long lease. I think it has had issues but these are addressed and the cash outflow is significantly less than Greenhill Road requires. But I would need to see the numbers to be certain.
  18. The ton results have been an anomaly. Normal service will be resumed. Starting with them on trophy day, last day of the season where a sound thrashing will be dutifully administered at our fortress.
  19. Having had a quick read of this I can see the classic mistake. Profit ids being confused with cash flow. Depreciation on the ground a and Ralston is not a cash flow, it's an accounting concept. The ground is bought and paid for.. Currently the only cost is maintenance and improvements. There are, as yet no major repairs. Our greatest cost are wages (I presume, probably about 60/ 70% of costs). We'll just need to wait and see how things pan as out at the end of the year. At this point in time I wouldn't be too worried, next season though? Back on topic, we are in better financial state than Morton. To get to where we are has been painful. Let's enjoy it now and worry. About the future later. The last board was overly pessimistic prospects. If you plan for the worst, guess what will happen? I don't see that under Gordon Scott and fan ownership. Let's have a happier, brighter future and try to enjoy the run win to the end of the season and worry Morton later ( although would be nice if they came up too _ a guaranteed 12 points)
  20. St Mirren 4 - Falkirk 4. October 2002 4-0 down at half time. Had the game been played for another 5 minutes we would have won
  21. Always thought Hippolyte was a decent player, he should do well. We also need to consider Jacks record in the transfer market. I cant think of a signing he has made who hasn't delivered. This time last year he signed 10 and there were no real failures whereas Alex R**. I'll just leave this here.....?.
  22. Given our start to the season, we're in a cracking position. Win our home games and Draw our away games and we'll be there or thereabouts. Falkirk will have a big say on who wins the league. We wont mess up on Saturday. I'd take a draw just now, but we wont be beat.
