All today's accusation establishes is that the prosecution couldn't prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
From my reading of the trial, what was not clear was any motive for the accuser to lie; vengeance or financial reward were not put forward as motives by the defence, all Le Vell argued was that "it was a lie that got out of hand".
However, in the eyes of the law he has been found not guilty. Sexual abuse cases, because of the lack of corroborative evidence, are notoriously difficult to get guilty convictions from.
What I found deeply disturbing though, before, during and after the trial, were all the people wishing him luck, or celebrating todays verdict. He was on trial for child abuse for feck's sake, not going for gold in the Olympics.

My point is that prior to the trial, no-one knew he was innocent, so why wish him luck? By the same token, would you wish Peter Tobin luck before his trial, because he was "innocent" then too?
I don't have inside info, but from what was reported in court, the accuser appears to be someone very close to him, not some random female from the past.
Some of the comments that have been made on social media tonight are a disgrace, with calls for naming and shaming the accuser. All that has been established is his guilt could not be proved; it is still possible the accuser was telling the truth.
The current system for these cases is totally unsatisfactory; there should be anonymity on both sides until the verdict is known, and it should only be made public if a guilty verdict occurs. But we also need to look at the burden of proof in these cases, as only around 5% of reported rapes lead to convictions, and there is no way 95% of accusers put themselves through the ordeal of giving evidence in court when they are making it up.

We also need to support the team for the full 90 minutes, not start grumbling if we go a goal down, its at times like that they will need greater support. COYS

I spoke to one of the players today and he asked me to put a wee note out to the fans.
The players appreciate that everyone is feeling frustrated, they are feeling it too. They are absolutely determined to put it right.
They have asked that everyone gets right behind them from the off tomorrow, whether you appreciate it or not it makes an enormous difference to them.
I think they all feel a bit on edge based on the conversation I had. We need to do our bit to boost that confidence as much as we can.
So, if you are going tomorrow, please put on your positive shoes, and give the team every encouragement from the first whistle.
Hopefully we will see a response.
    COYS

If this rumour is true, then Danny really has lost the plot. I mean, the dressing room is quite big and he'll have been in it almost every working day, so to lose it, well that truly is incompetent.

I actually think there's just a few things we need to change to turn things round.
    1. Get a new goalkeeper. A lot of people on here have blamed the central defence for leaking goals, but what I have seen this season is a nervousness at the back, which stems from a lack of confidence in the goalkeeper. There is no communication or organisation, which are the most important factors in having a solid defence. Why DL, allegedly on the advice of Paul Mathers, decided to go for an untried 3rd choice goalie from Swansea when an experienced keeper like Steve Simonsen was available, I have no idea.
    2. Play players in their best position. If we insist on playing 4-2-3-1, McGinn and Newton should be holding midfielders with Teale, McGowan and Harkins ahead of them.
    3. Motivate players, rather than viewing them as disruptive influences if they are unhappy about not being played or not being played in their right position.
    4. Sign a couple of decent strikers and a left sided midfielder, ideally with a bit of pace about them.
5.Play a passing game in the opposition half, not our own half.
Not too much to ask. I hope Danny can do all the above, but on the evidence of the last three years, I'm not convinced...

For me, its straightforward - grasp the chance to control our own club, or allow it to be bought by some investor who we know nothing about.
We do know about the CIC, and while they may have made mistakes, we know they have the interests of St Mirren at heart.
I think some people are making this far too complicated when really its simple - trust ourselves and people we know, or gamble on someone unknown, with no connection to the club, taking over.
My only anxiety is whether St Mirren fans stick with it, continue to pay the direct debits and don't start fighting if we're not in the Champions League in two years. From reading this forum over the past few days, sadly I'm not sure that will happen.
