If you can come up with a better model and make it happen then why not go for it ?
No point in sitting on the sidelines telling everyone where they are going wrong if you have the answers that will benefit the club for generations to come ?!

I would think that this is a more realistic price, but if the BoD are in no hurry to sell, then why should they drop the price. I don't necessarily agree with that, but after all the years of sh*t, now that things are looking good on the pitch, maybe, just maybe they fancy hanging on a bit longer ? Who knows.
My only with "issue" SG was related to a private matter outside of SMFC. There can be no denying that under his stewardship, the club is miles better off than when he took over, and it's not always been plain sailing in between. The JC-era was probably as dire as it got on/off the pitch, yet somehow we are in a shiny new ground, with bespoke training facilities, all bought and paid for. Writing as someone who once watched Brian Martin and Victor have a contest at throwing giant weeds around a ploughed field at Abbotsinch, during what was a "training session", the structure that the club is in now is excellent.
I cannot be arsed trawling through the archived posts, but some people were having a dig at SG & Co for making a few bob out of the "payback" of the loans when the Tesco deal went through. I don't recall anyone on here sticking their houses/businesses on the line to bail SMFC out of the sh*te in 98, so if the BoD made a few bob from it, then so what.
Beyond the hideous PR disaster that was the 10,000Hours timeline, a lot of very good ideas have been generated. I sincerely hope that whoever buys the club harnesses these, and uses them. In these economic times, it is remarkable that almost 1,000 supporters were prepared to buy into a scheme to have some form of say on the running of the club.......and that is without really having a proper go at promoting it beyond the internet, through press/media campaigns, and family/kids/OAP membership deals, etc.
To me this demonstrates that there is the appetite for the St.Mirren support to genuinely get involved in large numbers in some form of fan ownership/representation. Just how this is structured/marketed in the future is for another day, but for small provincial teams, supporter-ownership schemes are the future, running in tandem with private/state backing, and are springing up at many FL sides in England, plus in some German and Dutch teams.
the sentiment/intentions were right, the PR and execution were poor. Doesn't mean that's the end of involving the fans, be it CIC/KMG/GLS/ anyone else with 3 initials.

Thanks to Yflab for pointing this out, I have ripped it and hosted it here so that overseas buddies can see it. If the BBC tell me to take it down I will but it's an important message for our fans and I think worldwide they should get to hear it.

Well yes, the final say so on who takes over the shareholding lies solely with the selling consortium and there isn't jack shit that any of us can do to stop them selling to whoever they want to sell to.
The difference with the 10000Hours bid though was that they NEEDED the supporters to be on side otherwise the numbers would not have stacked up and the funders would not have been interested.
The guys who were completely against the CIC therefore had an ideal opportunity to try and educate the rest of us about WHY it was a bad move. If they had succeeded then the pledges would have been removed and the CIC bid would have died on it's arse a long time ago.
    To summarise the main reasons that there was anti-CIC sentiment were as far as I can see;
    1) Richard isn't a born and bred St.Mirren fan and isn't from Paisley
    2) Nobody had ever bought a football club this way before
    3) Richard wasn't sinking his own money into the club
    4) The £2m asking price was too high
    5) There were too many tiers of hierachy in the CIC model
    6) There were no scarves for sale in the club shop
Some of those were valid concerns, some of them were just utter nonsense !
I am all for Ken McGeoch and co taking over the club in a "traditional" takeover if that is the best long term option for the club but I will certainly be looking for answers as to what that bid entails, who is involved, where the money is coming from and what the long term business strategy is.
Nobody is going to invest millions of pounds in St.Mirren just for the fun of it, unless they have landed the Euro Millions.

The actual sale and the transaction of money might not be your problem, but every single St.Mirren supporter should be concerned about the sale of the club and who it is handed over to.
The reason I supported the original CIC proposal so strongly is because it put the St.Mirren supporters in control of the club whilst locking the major asset (the stadium) away safely in a vault where it couldn't ever be sold without the express approval of the CIC, ie: the St.Mirren supporters.
Although it happened in different circumstances you will note that the Chelsea fans did this with Stamford Bridge many years ago and now that foresight is reaping rewards as they have effectively vetoed the wish of Abramovich to sell the Bridge and relocate. Despite having all the money in the world he can't have his way, as the fans own the ground and don't want to move.
Although the engagement with the community was appealing to me and made sense, it was putting the supporters in control of the whole club that was the big selling point to me.
I am not against private individuals taking ownership, if the likes of Gordon had succeeded in buying the club I'd have been delighted but as I have alluded to above I don't want to see someone come in and buy the club by using the stadium as security for their debt.
We cannot control who SG et al sell to though, so we have to hope that they do the right thing !

The planned meeting will concentrate on two distinct areas of discussion.
    1) The detail of exactly what has happened with the CIC bid over the intervening months since the last meeting and why it failed to get over the hurdle (and indeed what that hurdle was)
    2) The plan going forward for a community led buyout of the majority shareholding under an alternative model
I will try and cover that meeting "live" so that as many St.Mirren fans as possible can get fully up to date on the history and the way forward.
Of course the official end of the CIC process must also heighten the chances of McGeoch putting in an offer and possibly gaining control of the club. I think it is now time for those guys to be more public with regard their intentions, as they have said absolutely nothing about who is involved and what the plan is.

I don't know Ken at all but by all accounts he is a good Saints man and as you say he knows the club inside out.
It's difficult to comment on the merits or not of his bid for the club as other than a couple of newspaper stories about it there has really been zero information about who is involved or what the plans are.
I totally appreciate that these are commercially sensitive deals so perhaps they just haven't reached the point where they are ready to go public, so perhaps in light of the statement by 10000Hours we will see a follow on statement from the club and the selling consortium about who else they are talking to and what happens now as far as they are concerned.
