Slartibartfast reacted to beyond our ken in The Referendum Thread
You are now part of the diaspora, we love the sentiment you have for Scotland and your concern for it's future, just as we love my cousin in Toronto's concerns. You may well make & spend a few bob here, but unfortunately you don't have a Scottish address, your pension fund might invest in shale gas companies in the states but i dont hear you complaining about not getting a voting slip there. Lines must be drawn somehwere. A good test of your eligibility would be to ask the question, if you had to apply for English citizenship in order to continue to live and work in London, would you be so overcome with your notion of Scottishness that you immediately sell up and come back to Paisley? Either come back up here to vote or stay where you and get the bonus of the chance to vote for Boris as your PM.

Your continued use of the natsi word is getting on my nerves Stuart. Please cut it out as its not clever.I will not be voting for Salmond or the SNP but for a fairer independent Scotland on September 18th.A country free of Westminster administration. As big Boris(soon to be prime minister of the rest of the UK )has classed the referendum as the peasants revolt I find it difficult to fathom out how anybody would want to remain in the UK.

As someone who currently lives in England, but will become a Scottish resident by January at the latest, I sincerely hope that Scotland is an independent nation by the time I settle down there with my wife. I would be proud to live in an independent Scotland and I think it would be a fresh start for the nation.
Largely because north east England is ignored by all forms of politics in the country. Most of our politicians don't even know the town where I live is...most apparently thought it WAS IN SCOTLAND during a recent poll. David Cameron saw no problem in a radio interview a few weeks back when he kept getting the Tees Valley and the Tyneside areas mixed up...it beggars belief. It's like the north east is just bolted onto merry old southern England and is the simple cousin who just does as he is told and keeps quiet as long as he gets alcohol and fags.
I'll be sad to leave Northumberland as it is my area, but a lot of people there are deluded into thinking they are contributing anything politically to the rest of the nation or even being remotely taken notice of.
That's why I'd vote YES.
Anything south of Manchester doesn't give two craps about the rest of the UK. At all.

Before considering getting a season ticket, please answer the following questions truthfully and honestly.
Is it all Cheesy's fault?
Is the new scoreboard shite?
Should the consortium lower their asking price?
Is Jim Goodwin the anti-Christ?
Are JD Sports on drugs?
Is it all Cheesy's fault?
Does Tommy Craig intend to be shown up by guys like Alex Neil all season?
Will you set Dickson to ignore?
Will you 'like' all my jokes, no matter how shite they are?
Gus McPherson or Danny Lennon?
At all times, do you promise to call 'Rangers' by their proper name? Please choose from 'The Rangers', 'Sevco 3058 Scotland', 'The Sevco Franchise', 'TCFKAR'.
Is it all Cheesy's fault?
...welcome to the asylum.

Slartibartfast reacted to esaciar in Moving To Paisley...
Hi there,
New to the boards - even though I've been skulking around them for a while now - and I wanted to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Northumberland and have lived here for my entire life so far. I met my wife about 8 years ago now and we struck up a conversation about Paisley - she was from the Brodie Park area and my grandparents were from the Seedhill area. I had always been proud of my roots - my grandfather had been a submariner, a shipworker and then a firefighter and my grandma had been a worker at the thread mill before they moved across to Northumberland. So I've always had that connection with Paisley.
I've been offered a job in Glasgow and the wife and I have decided to move across to Paisley and settle there. It's an opportunity I am really looking forward to. My grandfather used to love St. Mirren and spoke about them all of the time - Cunningham, Knox, McGregor and Gebbie were some of the names that he had witnessed as a teenager. Sadly, he is no longer with us, but I have always had a place in my heart for St. Mirren because of him.
Now that we're moving to the town, I've considered the possibility of getting a season ticket...
So, I was just looking to introduce myself and make a few contacts. Cheers!

I havent done it but would it be cheeky to do.
If i gave a checkoot dude a 20 quid note for say a 5 pound purchase.
He then puts my 20 thru his anti counterfeit machine.
Would it be okay to ask him/her if i could put my 15 pound change thru the machine also, just to check ?

Things I have learned reading this thread
1. Most of the Yes camp think Mr D is a twat
2. Mr D thinks the Yes camp are twats
3. Nope that's it.
304 pages and that's about it.

OK I'm going to bow out of this one as it's become clear that a decent debate is being spoiled by continued vile abusive postings and that despite multiple complaints to that effect being made to the site's moderation team they have no intention of stepping in to end this,
moderation -
the avoidance of excess or extremes, especially in one's behaviour or political opinions.
If they can't be bothered looking back I'll just leave the comments from a single contributor's last 90 days or so.
I consider this to be excess and extreme.

Meltdown!
You have made it extremely clear that you can't refute the claims made in the Wee Blue Book since you have wasted all your time focusing on the personality flaws of a single man (or two if you count Salmond) instead of countering the reasons for independence that have been put forward.
Many people on here apparently don't like you so by your own logic does that make your entire case for the union complete nonsense?
The ever popular Boris Johnston is shooting his fellow NO campaigners in the foot by saying that the "guaranteed extra powers" shouldn't be given to Scotland and by being so popular he could very well be the man who gets to make the decision on it. It's extremely embarrassing for BT.
David Cameron and Alistair Darling are being equally as embarrassing since their entire campaign seems to hinge on "We'll give you more powers......if you vote against having more powers".

How long is this vile reference going to be allowed? I know of 4 posters who have put in reports at how distasteful they find it in virtually every posting and yet it still goes on unabated.
A decent debate can be enjoyed without this incessant abuse.
Is there a Mod view ? Do the complaints have to reach a certain number ?

Exactly. BT say No to a CU and apparently that's the gospel never to be questioned truth.
No supporters can't understand why Yes simply can't accept that. That's the nub of the plan A plan B shite.
There is no debate to be had here. Yes are going into this vote saying there will be a CU, No are going in saying there won't be.
Discussion over. Full stop. Final.
Voters will now have to vote on who they trust to be telling the fewest porkies.
Put yourself in the position of an undecided on this issue.
One side is effectively saying "we'll work together for the benefit of both sides".
In response, the other is shouting and finger jabbing on live TV and essentially saying "we'd rather take on ALL the debt put up trade barriers, veto your EU application, put up borders, and absolutely grind our own country into the dirt before agreeing to work with you".
Which of those sounds reasonable?

Slartibartfast reacted to WirralSaint in The Referendum Thread
Saw a nice simple explanation of the why Salmond is right to avoid questions on a Plan B, C or whatever
It’s like asking me how I’m getting to work
“I’ll take the car”
- But what if you can’t
- but I can it’s the best option
- but what if it’s broken and you can’t use it? What’s your plan B?
I don’t need one I will take the car but I can take the other car, I could take one of three buses, I could take a taxi, I could walk”
So which other method will you choose.
I won’t I’ll take the car
But what is your plan B?
Well any one of a range of options
So what transport will you use
I’ll take the car
But what if it’s broken and you can't
But it isn’t
What’s plan B?
Well there are a range of options
So how are you getting to work?
I’ll take the car
What if you can’t?
But I can
What’s plan B?
Well there are a range of options but I’ll be taking the car !!!!
You aren’t answering my question !!!!
Why should he waste valuable time on options that just aren't going to be required just so his opponents
can stall hours of time with petty arguments about bus routes, prices and convenience etc when he'll never actually need it.
