Mainstand Sweary Mob got a reaction from stevie-dee in Evangelos Ikonomou
With the budget we have I doubt we'd sign him too, but I would love us to have two left backs fighting for the position as I'm sick of every year we ALWAYS are looking for a left back. We need to tie one down to a 20year contract.
I would also like us to ship David Barron out. I think VZ needs decent competition for the right back spot too.
As much as we, in my eyes, have quality in the centre back position, I feel we have enough cover there with what we have and with the youth too. It's the full backs we don't have many for and feel we need competition to get the likes of VZ to up his game.
I would like a decent partner for Thommo or someone decent who can lead the line on their own too.
Not asking for much am I?!

Hopefully a fit Danny Granger in the team will put an end to all this daft pining for Carey.

I think that is what Brian is "not talking about" and why we have no cash for Carey. Imrie. etc If we can get the boy on loan for 6 months at 3k a weel thats 80k It's certainly pushing the boat out but I see why we want to try for it.

Heard we are talking to a proven goal scorer about coming to us in the summer. Early days but it is a name that would surprise a few on here.

Hope we do get a couple players in that can strengthen areas we need. I think Left Back and a solid defensive midfielder are key in my opinion. when goodwin is out we dont have anyone with dig (and Div is not the answer) also Div is not the answer at left back either.

Sadly it will prob be that way, but I can live and hope that the management team and BOD can see we harve real areas of weakness. If they want to progress more than they did last season a Left Back, Solid Mid and maybe a back up keeper if Adam is injured badly are defo what we need.

I reckon we will be lucky if we get 1 player in

Here is hoping they are good and get signed up to a real long deal so we can finally spend a summer where Left Back is not an issue!

So you are telling me you wouldn't take kirk as he is old? People said Thompson was old and isn't a natural goal scorer and he quite a few for us last season and I expect more of the same this coming season. After that, From what I can find these are last seasons goal stats (could be wrong)
13 - Steven Thompson
8 - Paul McGowan
6 - Nigel Hasselbaink
4 - Kenny McLean
2 - Steven Thomson
2 - Graham Carey
1 - Jim Goodwin
1 - Lee Mair
1 - Marc McAusland
1 - Aaron Mooy
When looking at top scorers on BBC it shows
Thompson St Mirren = 13 (33Years old)
Kirk Dunfermline = 11 (33 years old)
11 goals is good for an "ageing journey man" in what was a very crap SPL side!
Last season we were not as good infornt of goal as we could have been. This season it is something we need to sort out and if he could bag 11 is a shite team, imagine what he could do with better people around him. He may not be young, but would we be able to afford a 19yo who could bag over 10 a season? To have two strikers (no matter their age) who can get over 10 each a season would be great for us!

He would be better than Teale in my opinion. He ticks a box too
Has played for Celtic/Hamilton/Cowdenbeath - Check

Hamilton fan posted we were after Mensing. Silly season starting already.
Anyway IMO we need a strong central midfielder, a decent striker and a right back in. I know we won't bring in a right back, but I am at loss as to why we would resign both Barron (crocked frequently) and DVZ (very suspect in defence). Sensible thing to do would have been to bring in a dependable right back who can defend and then offer DVZ a one year deal. Hopefully Barron will be healthy for the season, but it's an unnecessary gamble I believe. Nothing against Barron as he's solid defender though I see no reason to have players in the squad who are typically out for long periods. It's like paying them double wages for playing time.

Farid El Alagui would be an OK shout.
Would Jon McShane not be better to keep than go for this guy?

Good list, however it doesn't say the chap plays in the SPL. No one on the above list jumps out at me as an obvious choice.

What about Steven MacLean who was on loan to Aberdeen not too long ago? Says he is in the shop window. Could he be a good partner for the likes of Thompson?
As it has been said before, we might not be able to afford a 15-20 goals a season striker, but could he score a few more than our current striker(s)?
Thoughts?

Not putting the guy down before he has even signed for us or anything, and I hope if he does sign he is of the quality we got in this season and the quality is a progression each year. I just wonder if a winger is what we need.
This season we have been a bit thin up front and in defence in my eyes, but we have maybe more midfielders on our books than we really need, I think.
If we do get rid of some of them in the summer I hope we don't then get more wingers than we need. The likes of Teale, Carey, Imrie, Hasselbaink can all play in wider areas. As many fans keep saying Imrie is not an out and out striker he plays more wide and others seem to think the same of Hasselbaink. If we can sign Hasselbaink on to another deal would we really need another wider player on the books?
If we trim the midfield down so we don't have as many of them I would like us to be looking for out and out strikers rather than wider players (I can't believe I am saying that as width has been a huge issue for us in the past).
As I said, I'm not getting at the guy before he is in a saints top, just maybe the signing tactics. Maybe this is DL looking to find someone to take Hasselbaink's place if we can't sign him to an other contract? If we will be playing next season with same size of squad I would like maybe a defender as cover and I would love an out and out striker or two. To live in an ideal world, eh?!
