Smoking In Cars With Children...

The British Lung Foundation (despite it thinking it may have lost out on this progressive move) has been astounded by political shifts that make it likely that this law could be passed on Monday. :)

I know most of you - smokers or not - are rational and would consider the health of kids in cars, in general, so it probably would not impact on you , but some folk just don't think about it. Don't even consider it.

They might need a wee nudge.

And so do bloody MPs.

This BLF website makes it a dawdle to let you nudge your MP.

Go on. Go on. Go on!

It won't hurt you: it might help some kids.

:)

Just another step in banning smoking altogether in order to help the proliferation of psychotropic drugs . There was a programme t'other day about kids who have chronic headaches. The solution it appears is to administer psychotropic drugs , in many cases , anti-depressants . There should be a petition about that. .

I'll fill it when I get home tomorrow. I don't smoke but my other half does and she's not smoked in the car or house for about 20 years.

More good news, but still a long way to go.

A HUGE way to go yet.

Nearly a quarter of all adults are still puffing themselves to a life of disease, ill health and early death without giving a shit about the fact that the rest of us are paying their hospital bills. It amazes me that not content with this unnecessary abuse and waste of scarce public money, many of them fought tooth and nail to force the rest of us to breathe their shit in as well at work, cinemas and every other indoor place. Now they are up in arms because we want to protect their own children from their habit.

I simply could never be a negotiator or a politician. I'd find it very hard not to be overwhelmed by anger at their selfishness and rank stupidity. It's issues like this which really push my socialist principles to the very limit.

Indeed.

However, through education, pupils are being taught constantly about the dangers of smoking. I've noticed that rather than it being perceived as being "cool" to smoke as a youngster, more and more of them are seeing it for the killer that it is.

A lot of pupils will put pressure on their parents not to smoke and I know of several who have given up for the sake of their kids.

However, this is only one area of Glasgow that I'm seeing this in, there will be different trends in different areas, as highlighted by the BBC article.

It certainly looks like fewer children are taking it up.

I always thought that the easiest way to stop teenagers starting up smoking isn't to show them pictures of granddads with black lungs.

Simply run an advert showing a young couple about to snog and then the non-smoking partner catches a whiff of the minging pig breath of the smoker (ALL smokers have appalling breath) and decides to dump him or her for another person. THAT would work IMO.

That wouldn't/doesn't work.

Do you totally forget being young?

Next suggestion?

Why wouldn't it work?

Being young is about image.

Youngsters don't associate themselves with pictures of older sick people.

They certainly associate themselves with being caught with bad breath during a snog.

Do you actually HAVE any children who are teenagers?

I had hoped wouldn't have to explain but here goes.................

Young guy (remember that), young girl (both over the legal age before somner/pityhim gets a stauner) are on a hot date, later that night, after a great evening, the green light is full on.....................

Do I need to go any further?

PS One smokes, would it matter?

Are you saying young people have no sense of smell or are they so randy they can take a pig breath right into their faces and not be distracted?

BTW this is the sort of quality conversation BAWA is fast becoming famous for.
