Stealing from the club

Recommended Posts

I am truly disgusted with myself for all those times as a kid when I perpetrated grand larceny on the club  by getting a lift over. Or when I turned up for the last 20 minutes of the game when they opened the doors because I couldn’t afford the admission fee that week. Absolute shameless hoovering of 20 minutes that on a pro rata basis should’ve cost me at least 20p.

I’m away for a good greet, fire on my hair shirt and flagellate myself Opus Dei style.

As shown by the rise in crowds over the last few years I’d say this is not an issue to be concerned about.
There are no St Mirren supporters that I know who don’t go to games because they have IPTV.
Most people I know are ST holders, SMISA members, go to home & away games, buy club lottery tickets, buy merchandise from club shop, B&W magazine subscriptions, etc. All likely have access to iptv. It doesn’t stop them going to St Mirren or Scotland matches.
If there was going to be a group affected by this it would most likely be the “young team” who tend to be more IT savvy on the latest way to bypass SlyTv. Yet that is arguably one of our fastest growing groups of supporters.
This issue is blown way out of proportion imho.

It's not something I'm too concerned about either, it is what it is, I use it myself for home games when it suits, And I do know loads of part time stmirren fans who use it,  Quite a few of them my own immediate family who I admit haven't been going on a regular basis anyway,

Is it being blown out of proportion ?  it's just another one of many reasons why people don't attend games mines is the f**king weather we get here,

The O.P asked the question.. is it costing the club money..,  if you ask the club what do you think their answer would be

Compelling circumstances which I certainly can understand. Going to five games when you live in the tax haven of Jersey is laudable. Do you not qualify as living abroad? Jersey's not part of the UK after all.

Ha ha. Brilliant. You’re a wee bit out of date mate. Jersey hasn’t been a “tax haven” for a very long time.

Has it not? 😆 I was only having a wee joke. I seem to recall you referring to yourself as a socialist in another thread and I found that quite amusing at the time.

If it wasn't a option of being lifted over back in the day I doubt very much I'd be a fan today, money was far to tight after the war,  and you being a youngster you missed out, I can remember them opening the gates at halftime  LOL

Did ye aye?

When I moved to Jersey, I must’ve missed the sign at customs that said “leave your social conscience here”.

Those that get entertained by the club's product but do not contribute are at the very least freeloading, but I think in all honesty it is stealing.

I would turn a blind eye to robbing from English Premiership clubs

So, if you pay and you don't get any entertainment, which I hasten to add has been the case for more years than not, are the club duty bound to provide a refund? 🤣

You're all over the place. You're for stoning people for "stealing", which they really arent, but "stealing" is ok dependent who you're "stealing" from? 😜

Are we not currently experiencing record season ticket sales?

The OP would no doubt have frowned on kids getting lift overs and adults for many years “sneaking” in as a child/student at away games.

There is no way to measure the impact.

All the clubs could put a stop to it by refusing to accept the cash from the TV companies who dictate when games are played.

I bet if you switched off TV broadcasting at games people would go back to streaming footage from their phones as Div used to do a number of years ago for this site and I’m sure many people used to watch his drunken ramblings.

That's totally different. If a club employee exercises their discretion to allow a young fan into the ground without charge, then it is not a crime. It also encourages young fans to come back. I was lifted over the turnstile myself as a nipper.

Some of those club employees were robbing the club for many years which is why we ended up with no cash at turnstiles. We moved to an all ticket affair, then automated turnstiles.
By being lifted over as a youngster you were “cheating” the club financially which is no different to what you are arguing about here.

I’m surprised a Christian would perform such a dishonest act.

Not got a problem with anyone who can't get to a game because they live away,  especially you Jersey as I know you spend plenty following the team

But if you live near or around paisley and give up your season ticket because you can now watch the team for free on IPTV that's stealing from the football club in my eyes,  maybe stealing is not the right word I'm sure someone will give the proper definition

I'm pretty sure a vast number of those who go to the game go for more than the fair on the park. It's a social thing. Watching on TV, for free or otherwise. can be construed as torture on many an occasion.

1.  Yes and long may it continue, the club is doing much better on and off the field since the fan buyout, I'm pretty sure you can accept we would get a few more at least now and again through the turnstiles even only for big games if it wasn't so easily available on yer telly for nowt..

2. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be,  Getting lifted over is no longer a option Heath and safety etc, If it was i'd still be doing it  I'm not that big,  and the club does great offers for a small cost season tickets for kids you could say this has replaced the practise of getting flung over the turnstiles, and for the Kids like myself growing up {skint} who don't even have that option many free tickets are made available to kids through school youth clubs etc, potential fans of the future. The club or SMISA can't be faulted on that front.

3. Can they measure probably not but there is one

4. Personally I can't stand those early kick offs so glad I invested in IPTV

Well, I was under the mistaken impression it was a tax haven. I accept, based on what you wrote that it's not. However, if it was, I would suggest that it would be hypocritical to claim to be an exponent of a political belief predicated on the redistribution of wealth through....taxation.

Well, aye! If you're going to steal, then I would suggest it's more justifiable stealing from a club that earns billions from TV rights than a wee, fan-owned club that barely makes ends meet.

I have to say I have genuinely found most of our games to be entertaining this season. :)

@portmahomack saint one of the charges made against the Green Brigade is that they were doubling up in turnstiles at home and away games. Often other supporters were not able to use their designated seats and supporters ended up using the stairwells leading to overcrowding.

The green brigade were also known to try and force open fire doors to get into stadiums.

And if it was, I’d agree with you. Glad that’s all cleared up that you were talking bollocks. 😄👍
