  1. Maybe Thuram's youngest. Midfielder at Nice.
  2. I admit to feeling gutted when this story first broke, but don't think things are as bad as I first thought. Concerns that the board were being unreasonable have been allayed, we're in a better place than when OK first came in, and we seem to be making signings, which didn't happen after Jack left. Get the right man in (Goody), and the positivity will return quickly I reckon.
  3. Flat in Gordon Street, or explain lack of loyalty to your leader.
  4. Don't know the answer to why he's not had another manager's job in that time, but is a comparison with Tommy Craig perhaps a bit unfair? Two decent seasons as manager at Dundee versus an awful six months as manager of Charleroi.
  5. Was sacked in October the following season, but had lost Kevin McDonald, Paul Dixon, Scott Robertson, Gavin Swankie and Derek Lyle, amongst others, that summer. They eventually finished 5th under Jocky Scott, but it could be argued that Rae had simply suffered from having to rebuild his team. (Really trying to look for the positives here!)
  6. Did you mean "Lets put this in a completely different context"?
  7. My wee girl's first game today as well. Had her fingers in her ears any time there was crowd noise, got a sausage roll at half time and got it everywhere, and missed the goals 'cause she was watching the seagulls. Says she wants to go back. Delighted :-D
  8. I take it we are his preferred choice then?
  9. Ludo's top corner save v Livi at Almondvale springs to mind.
  10. FFS, if you want to hear Chic's update you've got to sit through the first half of a youth match. The BBC will have been trailing this for about an hour and a half, and all it will be is Chic telling us what we already know.
  11. Or relocate the family section. Always thought the view from behind the goal isn't great if you're trying to hold a child's attention on the game. In saying that, I sometimes struggle to hold my own attention on the game from the West Bank...
  12. I'm all for having a safe standing area, but if it were just one section of the West Bank then people sitting in the neighbouring sections wouldn't be able to see past those who were standing. Would make more sense to have safe standing in the South Stand.
  13. Fine by me. Where's the fun in 'no nonsense'?
  14. I think if the consortium were really serious about selling to the fans, surely all they need to do is approach SMISA to try and come to some arrangement that could then be put to the fans, i.e. we're willing to sell for X amount, and will accept instalments over Y years.
  15. I'm not interested in whether this guy can tackle or head a ball. I just need to know if he is 'nonsense' or 'no nonsense'.
  16. Yeah, those deluded fools who like 'entertainment'! Maybe one day we'll learn to overhype the football.
  17. I've been reading up a bit on the MLS, since we played NYCFC, and the marketing of their game is on a different level. Granted, they have a bit more money sloshing around, but even so it's impressive how they have developed the league over the last twenty years. I would say that the problem is only in part the poor marketing by Scottish clubs - what is the SPFL doing in terms of marketing? Not much, it would seem, other than sitting tight until The Rangers get promoted. On a side note, if you've got the patience (and maybe a maths degree), it's quite interesting to look at how the MLS is structured, with regards to player contracts, the salary cap, player drafts etc. Don't think a lot of it could happen here, but they do seem to make an effort to keep the teams competitive, so that it's not the same teams winning every year.
  18. But what are we offering to potential fans, in terms of entertainment and overall matchday experience? It's quite pricey, freezing cold for most of the season and entertainment on the park is inconsistent (to be charitable). In fact, are we even making any efforts to communicate with potential fans? Hoping they'll just turn up hasn't worked up until now.
  19. Nail on the head there. But (at the risk of going off topic) I often wonder, are we a small parochial team because we believe that to be the case and that it always will be so? Do we, as a club and as fans, have a small team mentality, and is that what stops us growing? Maybe we should look upon being close to Glasgow as an advantage rather than a disadvantage. We're situated in the most densely populated area of the country, and yes there's a great deal of completion, but surely we should be trying to market ourselves to people in the greater Glasgow area, or even further afield, who are turned off by the old firm (there must be some people). That's never going to happen when we're using slogans like "one town, one team" and "St Mirren is Paisley, and Paisley is St Mirren". Personally, although I was born in Paisley, I didn't grow up there so my reasons for supporting Saints have nothing to do with civic pride. Yet, it seems like the club are only marketing themselves to people who might wish to come to games because they're from Paisley - surely these people already are going to games. As I'm typing this, I'm realising that I'm not even sure what I'm suggesting should be done, but maybe if we see ourselves as something bigger, then we might start to attract people from outwith Paisley, and even Renfrewshire. Accepting that we are small time will only lead to others accepting the same, and (to try and get back on topic) maybe we're seen as a soft touch in the transfer market for that reason. (By the way, Original 59er, I'm not suggesting you in particular hold any of the above opinions!)
  20. The spirit of the law is that you have to pay a certain amount of tax on the income you earn. If someone were to come to me with a scheme that legislators hadn't thought of when writing the law, that means I can get away with paying less tax then everyone else, then I would deem that to be against the spirit of the law, and so wouldn't be interested.
  21. My answer would be that I want to pay whatever tax I'm due to pay, taking into account the spirit of the law, rather than the letter or the law.
