People who can't stand Irish folk music.


The Green Fields of France was written by an Aussie Scotsman, Eric Bogle. There's a line in it with a word which non-Scots always get wrong, they usually sing "glory" which makes absolutely no sense in the context of the song. "Glaur" however does...

If I'm not mistaken he also wrote the outstanding And The Band Played Waltzing Maltida covered by The Pogues and Tracey Chapman amongst others.

The Pogues version still brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it.

He did - first version I heard was by The Skids, of all people, on Joy (1981).
