RIP. Saw Quo many times at the Apollo and latterly the Armadillo. Sad news.

Loved the Quo, solid & unpretentious boogie.  Seen them a number of times including their first "Farewell Tour" back in the early '80's.

 

Rick had heart problems for nigh on twenty years and you kinda felt he was living on an island borrowed time.

Sad news. I reckon I only got hooked on football as a kid cause they played it at half time at Hampden when my old Gramps took me there. Their acoustic albums have some great reworkings of their old tracks.

I liked SQ.

My wumin got a 'live' LP recording of them.

 

I went right off SQ.

Happily gave the Album away to someone who was tone deaf.

 

Went to an SQ Concert at Newmarket Racecourse.

I REALLY liked SQ again.

So the last tour really was the farewell tour then?
Not quite the musical visionary like Bowie or Cohen, but a good old fashioned rock n roller who lived the rock star lifestyle to the full (until his heart problems).

2016 manages to shoehorn another legendary music figure into its grim roll call of departures.

Wasn't a big fan of Quo, but did see them play live, and liked some of their stuff. As said, unpretentious, uncluttered rock'n'roll.

Farewell Rick, and keep playing your tele wherever you are headed.

Everyone should put a trip to Night of the Proms in Antwerp on their bucket list.

I was there two years ago and it was stunning.

16,000 crowd.
4 major artists.
Orchestra.
Choir.
House band headed by John Miles.

I was not ready for this. Rick Parfitt had been a part of my story for fifty years. Without doubt the longest relationship of my life: this was also the most satisfying, frustrating, creative and fluid. From those early days, we worked together to create the Quo sound, look and hits. We spent years on the road, on the stage and in the studio, rarely far from each other, honing what we did. 

We were a team, a double act, a partnership and yet also two very different people, handling the pressures of growing older, constant touring, dealing with success and keeping the creative flame burning in different ways. He developed his own sound, his own style, casually inspiring a generation of players. 

Rick was the archetypal rock star, one of the originals, he never lost his joy, his mischievous edge and his penchant for living life at high speed, high volume, high risk. His life was never boring, he was louder and faster and more carefree than the rest of us. There were any number of incidents along the way, times when he strayed into areas of true danger and yet still losing him now is still a shock. Even in a year that has claimed so many of our best, including now George Michael, Rick Parfitt stands out. I was not ready for this.
