I dont buy into giving 19 year old professional footballers 'a rest'. The guys should be at pretty much their peak fitness in their lives and dropping them is only going to knock their confidence.
I'd drop Newton and Mcgowan who have been poor for weeks. Play with 2 proper wingers to get balls into the box for thompson as often as possible, not sure if Teale is ready to start but I would play him if he is.
    Kello
    Naismith Mcgregor Goodwin Kelly
    Djemb-Djemba
    Teale/Campbell Mcginn Mclean Wylde
    Thompson

Another early kick-off for the benefit of a TV company. Away supporters travelling from the NE at the crack of dawn. They will still travel down in numbers to bolster their considerable central belt support base, so it will be a good atmosphere....in the away end.
I will be there with neither hope nor expectation on this occasion. The Dons are on the crest of a wave after beating Celtic, and have a realistic shot at a double cup win. They have numerous attacking options, and our toiling defence could be looking at a torrid 90 minutes. I can see a high scoring victory on the cards.

My issue is with the manner in which we lost all shape in the 2nd half, and invited them onto us. It was poor all round, and there seemed to be a lack of spirit and appetite for the challenge, despite it being a cup tie.

You would think we were 'an attractive proposition' but how long has our debt free club with own ground / academy / dome etc been up for sale ?Some clubs have been sold twice over in the same time. The reality is St Mirren means more to the fans than it does the business world , a club with limited financial resources , limited options on growth ( financial or otherwise ) limited fan base.
With that in mind , we should be mindful of the fact we are in the top flight where we want to be ,managing 2 cup finals ( winning one) several quarter finals and the decade we are in now is still one of our most successful in recent history.
The club with everything in place has been re-born in recent years , we are in our modern infancy and better times do lay ahead
It can't all be about the good or looking to blame , sometimes it's about acceptance of who we are and what we are achieving.

I watched him closely and yes he was off the pace but his passing and availability to receive the ball was excellent. He will only get better with games and Utd away in a cup game was hardly an easy start. I saw enough to suggest he will do well despite my initial scepticism at his signing. Teale and McLean returning will be big plus points too.
Why the clamour to change managers now ? I watched the game today with a Utd fan who was convinced we will be nowhere near the play off spot. That is all that is realistically left now so why spunk cash we dont have on a pay off ?

Someone else mentioned it but I think Danny knows he won't be here next season and doesn't give a f**k anymore. 6 wins since last March is totally unacceptable and he should have been sacked before Xmas. Why do the board think they can take the piss and keep him in charge, when is so blatantly clueless and out of his depth?
I just want this season to end - f**king brutal.
On today's game only Goodwin & McGregor get a pass. Goodwin at least tried and Darren I thought was excellent. Naismith, Newton, Thompson were all horrendous.
How he could leave Campbell on the bench for 80 odd mins was bizarre. How Newton continues to start is also utterly bizarre - aside from his goal in the cup final he has contributed virtually nothing - I don't think he's had more than 3 good games for us, ever (certainly none in 2014).
So, usual pish. Do our board care? Do they go to games ? Do they like watching us getting humped every week?
So many questions on this post and no clear answers!

Another disappointing day for saints fans. The thing that really stuck out for me today was the lack of fight McGowan newton and McLean really are pea hearts I am surprised big Thommo and Goodwin stand for it . We missed wee McGinn big time. The Dundee utd boys got stuck into challenges then were snarling at the ref if the decision did not go their way. I don't want saints players arguing with refs but at least their players looked like they cared. Only positive was djemba djemba looks like he will b a great signing once he gets his fitness up

It was always going to be a tough game with United today, however considering Celtic got put out yesterday I expected our players to be up for it, but not one of them seemed to show any real fight and desire.
Lennon has to take responsibility for f'king up the team line up in the first place...
Whilst he didn't have any option but to play the four at the back, the way he set out the team meant that Kelly had no protection on the left and anytime he ventured forward it allowed United to exploit the space behind him. The same pretty much goes for Naismith as Newton is hopeless at right midfield. This has been evident since his first ever game for us when he got hooked at half time at home to Ross County! Either play him in the center or don't play him at all! It's a shame as they are decent young full backs and their confidence must be taking a right hit just now.
I thought McAusland and McGregor both had a decent game. Only thing that concerns me with McGregor, is whilst he is a great tackler and great in the air, his positioning is terrible sometimes, especially in the penalty box when he's defending an incoming ball. I've said it a few times this season, whoever he is marking seems to be able to move to get some more space where as McGregor stands stationary.
I didn't have a problem with Djemba-Djemba and Goodwin both starting, but for that to work effectively we needed someone with some pace to allow us to break forward whilst Djemba and Goodwin done the dirty work. Campbell should have been on from the start playing wide on the right. I wasn't that impressed with McLean other than a couple of good runs that he did, felt he lost the ball far too many times, but that might just be down to match fitness.
McGowan needs to be dropped, he has been awful this season. Whilst I appreciate he has had other things on his mind, we're paying him to do a job and he's just not doing it. I don't see any other club bigger than us taking him at the end of the season. He's not a young player with potential now, he's in his late 20's and should be peaking.
Thompson hasn't been great either recently, but as soon as Teale came on and got a couple of balls in I felt he became a bit dangerous. But he was isolated being up front himself once again. Anytime he won the ball in the air, it was a simple job of the United defence regrouping and then building another attack.
Overall, Lennon got the team set up totally wrong but nothing new there. The players didn't seem up for it. There was a lack of fight and desire, but perhaps that's because Lennon's man management skills are apparently dreadful,
I spoke to SG earlier on in the season (before the Partick Thistle game where we got beat 2-1) and he made it clear to me that Lennon was under pressure and Lennon knew the pressure he was under. I think everyone expected him to get the bullet after that game, but something must have happened for the BOD to keep him on, and after he managed to get a few points on the board, I can see why they've thought we might be ok till the end of the season. If we continue like we are, we will NOT be ok and relegation this season will be a disaster for us.
It is the BOD responsibility to act in the interests of ALL Shareholders. If they are not sacking Lennon because the group that owns 52% of the shares are hoping to sell the club shortly and the potential buyer wants to bring in their own person, then they are not acting in the interest of St Mirren or the Shareholders. Whilst the club is up for the sale, the day to day running of the club should not be affected as a result.
Going forward big changes need to be made. I'd personally go for 4-4-2 and drop Goodwin into the defence just to have a bit more experience around Naismith and Kelly. Djemba-Djemba and McGinn center of midfield. Teale and Wylde on the wings getting behind the full backs and getting the ball into the box for Thompson and Campbell. Whilst playing Campbell up front, I'd play him more on the right side, him and Teale both running about that area of the park the opposition's left back would be knackered after 20 minutes!

We have got rid of some amount of players who don't have the right attitude.
Carey, Hasselbaink, Guy, Grainger, Harkins, Imrie, Hadaad to name but a few. Have we got better our worse without these players or is it something other than the players attitudes that are wrong.

Take away the two long term injuries, the two goalies & reilly who simply isnt first team standard & we simply are not strong enough........ & thats before suspensions or further injuries.
We are very weak , have NO strength in depth & have yet again missed out while others around us strengthen.

You didn't think I was being totally genuine when I said we should aim for a 20 percent hit rate, did you? I would expect someone whose management experience extends no further than Sports Interactive's Football Manager 2013 to achieve better than that. Sadly, it's apparently too much to ask of our club at the moment.
Also, counting Campbell as a success? Talk about jumping the gun. He's had more poor games than good ones since he arrived here. He did next to nothing against Thistle, Celtic, St Johnstone and Hearts. But then again, we can't expect consistency from a winger who's just turned 19, and we aren't going to get it from him.
However you dress it up or spin it, the football club has had an absolute nightmare in the transfer market for some time now. The blame does not solely lie with the manager certainly, I believe the BoD, Brian Caldwell, Tommy Craig and Paul Mather deserve a decent share of the criticism.
I mean, take the left back situation. Who is going to play there if young Kelly gets injured or suspended? I genuinely have no idea, is there anyone else left in our squad who's played there before? Mairzo, Barron and Grainger all had some level of experience in that position, but we've punted all three of them in the last fortnight.
However, the bizarre nature of our January business has certainly made one thing a lot clearer: I think Danny knows, I think the BoD know and I think we all now know that this was Danny's final window in charge.

Dont want to be doomy n gloomy but i never took many positives today. I thought we looked shaky on the ball, never created much and second balls in the midfield were celtics all day long.
I did think that we looked sharp on the left flank but im afraid if celtic haf their shooting boots on it cudda easily been 3 or 4.

I am not really clued up about "twitter" but if the op is correct than I am more than worried about the rest of the season. Sure we have had 2 or 3 injuries at a time this season but what happens if it's 5 or 6 we don't have the squad to cope. Getting more and more pissed off about this season

So, at the start of the window we were a bit light at the back and most fans thought we needed defensive reinforcements.

    What's the Danny Lennon solution?

Release 3 defenders who have around 500 top flight games between them and then sign 2 wingers and a striker.

Welcome to the Danny Lennon school of squad management, I hope you enjoyed today's lesson.

Some of the stuff on here is just so repetitive .We're an average team that, like other average teams, lack consistency. Add to that we f**ked up our squad in the summer and have little or no depth at key positions and you get another bottom six year with a relegation scrap.
I'm not sure what people expect once the season is underway? Anyone who watches us knew where the issues would lie and that's been the case. We maybe have a chance to change that in the window but I wouldn't hold out much hope and tbh I'm not sure the manager would be able to get the best out of f**king Barcelona so it might be pointless bringing in new faces.
All that being said, if we beat Hearts on Wednesday then we'll have taken 7 points from the last three games which I'm sure we'd all have been delighted with at 3pm last Saturday?
