The St.Mirren Fans Council are delighted with the appointment of Ian Murray. A young manager who with limited resources and a part time team at Dumbarton has competed with Hearts, Rangers and Hibs. With 2 and a half years experience in the league we haven't competed in for 9 years his experience will be crucial. We would like to offer Ian our full backing and wish him every success for the future.

I'm delighted with the appointment and when I see his TV interview I can understand why he got the job. The way he speaks and conducts himself is really impressive and I can see why he was the outstanding candidate.
I was seriously concerned that we were in real danger of dropping down another league had we continued to appoint from within. Make no bones about itT
the championship is one tough league . If Ian Murray can keep Dumbarton in the league with the likes of Rangers, Hibs, Hearts, Falkirk etc then surely he must have an excellent chance of doing well with us.
Even if this appointment doesn't work out I still say well done the Board for appointing the strongest candidate. Unlike the Craig appointment last year this appointment seems right to me. I will give the new manager and the club my 100% backing whatever the outcome.

    Indeed.
FFS, most of us were even willing to give Craig a chance despite huge misgivings. Quite why a few folk seem determined to piss all over this appointment before the ink is even dry on the contract is beyond me. We shouldn't be surprised, I suppose, but it is irritating to see for all that.

I hope and believe Ian is the right man for us. I'd hoped we would get him last year but I think he was put off by the amount of in-fighting that seemed to be going on and the prospect of having to deal with our senior players who were older than him. That might still present some difficulty but I'm sure he can assert himself. I have a good feeling about this appointment.
Some of the negativity on here, largely from the usual suspects, is damned near gut-wrenching. I suppose it's how they get their rocks off. I've no idea what any of it has to do with supporting St.Mirren.

Agree. StuDick is good value as a forumster, but he's just being daft for the sake of it here to wind folk up. I fully expect a retort now which goes along the lines of 'Not at all, not at the wind-up, Kenny's results show....' - then he merely repeats the same irrelevant-to-St Mirren pish that he's already trotted out.
I'm bored this afternoon. I might research some managers in the Belgian or Latvian second tiers who had impressive results last season that show Ian Murray up to be the useless fanny he undoubtably is. Maybe look at the Norwegian second division too if I can be arsed.

Didn't see your named choice, and pretty sure holes could be picked in any hypothetical appointment of Gardner Spiers or an unknown-to-most guy coming in from Ireland. Could pick holes in any appointment. We simply aren't going to see Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola in the frame for the St Mirren job.Murray got it. He deserves a chance - with his new squad. Just as Danny Lennon deserved a chance when he was the new guy, coming into a club he saw as a step up from where we took him from. What Ian Murray does not deserve is to be booted in the stones by internet blowhards before he's even had time to put a knot in his club tie and find his way to the coffee machine at Ralston.

Glad to here he is making a recovery, was a disgraceful challenge. Noted that Barraclough never mentioned it when he was moaning about McDonald getting sent off after the game.
Wouldn't keep Gow though. At the end of the day he's been signed as an attacking player and he's delivered 0 goals and 0 assists. Not good enough, and he's past it too.
Would rather keep Sadlier, least he's scored and he's young.

Gary Teale and the pilot... at least with the pilot you want him to take you down.

It's hard not to like Gary Teale. He's a smashing bloke, and his heart is 100% in the right place.
It's been great having him at the club towards the end of his career and during his time as manager we have seen fleeting glimpses of what he might be capable of.
We have however also seen the other side, with some absolutely shambolic performances and team selections in key games, and an inability at times to make key changes to try and arrest games that everyone can see slipping away from us. (I think Danny suffered that problem too incidentally)
Teale may well go on to be a good manager, and he is well connected in the game. I'd be quite happy, especially given that he has a years contract left, with him staying on at the club as assistant to a more experienced gaffer but I do definitely think that we must break this cycle of internal promotion if we are to move forwards.
I'll be very surprised if Teale gets the job.

Can someone confirm to me that the game against Thistle after the split took place? I wasn't there so can't say for sure, however I'm fairly sure we lost it. Mysteriously it doesn't seem to appear in the list of games involving teams who had something to play for while didn't.
Teale said we need to get out of this mindset of "We're only St Mirren" and he's right, which is why a manager with such a poor track record has to go. Folk on this thread seem to be rather easily pleased - the sort of people who clap when the pilot lands the plane when you're going on holiday.

How would you explain him being unable to get the same players to perform in the games that actually mattered ? Motherwell away especially was a complete farce and Teale was unable tactically to get those games right . He needs to go and learn his trade as a manager elsewhere or stay on as coach under a manager that knows what their doing ....
