You could still accommodate Campbell by playing him wide in a 4-2-3-1 formation, so you would have Campbell, McGowan and one other in attacking midfield roles.

I don't think Danny Lennon is without his merits as a manager. He has shown a commitment to bringing through young players, and McGinn, McLean, Naismith and Kelly in particular have justified that commitment.
My difficulty with Lennon is in relation to three factors -
    1. Motivation - all too often, he sits in his dugout, isn't out encouraging, making tactical changes, etc. This might be his style, but I think it maybe transmits to players when they look over at the bench and see the manager sitting there and not out encouraging.
    2. Signings - since coming to the club, his signings have been truly woeful. Out of his permanent signings, only McGowan, Teale (after his poor first season) and Thompson have been clear successes.
    3. Tactics - I can't understand why, in some matches, i.e. Dundee United, he gets his tactics spot on, but in others, i.e. Motherwell and yesterday, he makes obvious mistakes, like playing McGowan in a deeper role where he is always less influential. I suppose Lennon's inconsistency is reflected in our own inconsistency as a team this season.
Without meaning to be disrespectful to him, I see his perfect job as working with young players in a coaching role, bringing them on and developing them, rather than being manager. He reminds me a wee bit of when Eddie May was promoted to the Falkirk manager's job having built a reputation as a youth coach, but was found seriously wanting in a managerial role.

I'd agree with this. United play a 4-2-3-1, and their threat is with their four attacking players. I'd match up, play 4-2-3-1, DVZ in right mid, Grainger left mid, with both of them helping out Naismith / Kelly, Newton and McGinn in the holding roles in midfield, and McGowan further forward, in an attacking midfield role. I'd drop Goodwin and Harkins and McLean would miss out for tactical reasons. This would mean each of Utd's best players would have two players to contend with. When we have the ball, we'd need to use the wings to get at them, plenty of crosses into the box as I think United's vulnerabilities are at the back.

Someone on the bbc website said they couldn't get the Dexy's Midnight Runners song "Gino" out their head last night when he was mentioned, worth a wee song on Saturday perhaps?

At my work, I'm currently managed by someone who is clearly out of her depth. She makes poor decisions, doesn't accept challenge about these decisions, has favourites and undermines those who are not among her favourites. The result has been an unhappy team with different cliques, and open dissent with her methods and management style. I deal with it by getting on with my job and largely ignoring everything she says.
I have no inside knowledge to know if similar dynamics are at play in Greenhill Road, but I fear, when you look at his body language in interviews and games, that Danny is displaying similarly poor leadership as my boss has. If there are players unhappy with his methods, tactics, decisions, he needs to address that, reflect, adapt if he thinks its appropriate and if not, stick to his guns and explain why he is doing so. He needs players like Goodwin, Teale and Thompson as his on field lieutenants, so to not address any concerns they have is poor leadership. I do not accept for a minute a guy like Thompson is not trying; his reaction after the second goal yesterday was one of anger and disappointment, a much greater reaction than the one I was able to muster.
And lets face it, there are a lot of reasons for the players to be unhappy. Lets take DL's press conference before the Hibs game, where he talks of how successful he has been as a St Mirren manager, how he has brought a new identity, blah blah blah.
Well, since Lennon has taken over, we have played 120 league games. We have won 26, drawn 40 and lost 54. That amounts to 22% of games won, 33% drawn and 45% lost. It would amount to 118 points, less than a point a game. in his first season, after a glut of summer signings most of who are now either playing in the third tier of Scottish football or below, or have given up the game, we only amassed 33 points, and were only saved by a very poor Hamilton Accies team - in just about any other season we'd have been relegated. He got rid of one of our best players (Carey), doesn't play one of our current best players (McGinn), allegedly agrees deals with other clubs that players must be played, no matter whether it suits St Mirren, signs two young inexperienced goalkeepers when a much more experienced alternative is available, hasn't signed enough strikers, hasn't organised his defence and has created an imbalanced squad. The "identity" he talked about, of playing passing football from the back was, to my recollection, only present during fleeting episodes in his second season, and also at points during last season's League Cup success, though bizarrely this was not repeated in the league campaign.
Danny is a snake oil salesman. The League Cup win was great, and the fact that someone whose managerial record with us is very poor managed to excel himself on five occasions (particularly the semi and final) and we won a trophy as a result, is as much bewildering as it is fantastic. But the reality is now staring us in the face. Don't be fooled by the smoke and mirrors, time to get a good young manager in to sort this mess out.

Lennon's record in the SPL is not good, not good at all. I think since joining, his win percentage is around 20%. An average manager would hope to have a win percentage of 30 odd % and a good manager 40 odd %. Not many managers would survive winning only on average one game in five.

I think the most telling sight yesterday was the fact Lennon spent nearly all the game sitting in the dugout. he wasn't in his technical area trying to motivate. his starting line up was baffling (Teale at wing back?) and his substitutions lacked inspiration, and there was still the obligatory fannying about at the back. I really hoped that he would learn from his mistakes, but he appears incapable of doing that, and doesn't appear to be fighting for the chance to continue as manager. The general sense from yesterday was there was a lack of organisation and lack of confidence from the players as a result. The thing is, even though there is maybe a lack of balance to the squad, the players we have are capable of so much more, we just need a manager who can get the best out of them.

My point is that prior to the trial, no-one knew he was innocent, so why wish him luck? By the same token, would you wish Peter Tobin luck before his trial, because he was "innocent" then too?
I don't have inside info, but from what was reported in court, the accuser appears to be someone very close to him, not some random female from the past.
Some of the comments that have been made on social media tonight are a disgrace, with calls for naming and shaming the accuser. All that has been established is his guilt could not be proved; it is still possible the accuser was telling the truth.
The current system for these cases is totally unsatisfactory; there should be anonymity on both sides until the verdict is known, and it should only be made public if a guilty verdict occurs. But we also need to look at the burden of proof in these cases, as only around 5% of reported rapes lead to convictions, and there is no way 95% of accusers put themselves through the ordeal of giving evidence in court when they are making it up.

All today's accusation establishes is that the prosecution couldn't prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
From my reading of the trial, what was not clear was any motive for the accuser to lie; vengeance or financial reward were not put forward as motives by the defence, all Le Vell argued was that "it was a lie that got out of hand".
However, in the eyes of the law he has been found not guilty. Sexual abuse cases, because of the lack of corroborative evidence, are notoriously difficult to get guilty convictions from.
What I found deeply disturbing though, before, during and after the trial, were all the people wishing him luck, or celebrating todays verdict. He was on trial for child abuse for feck's sake, not going for gold in the Olympics.

The accuser has not necessarily told lies. There may not have been enough evidence to find him guilty but his not guilty outcome does not mean he's totally innocent. If the trial had been in Scotland I'm quite sure it would have come back Not Proven...which really means guilty but we can't prove it.I'm sure the truth will come out one day.
