  1. This thread ??? 'Thinks' .............................. Lunatics and Asylum. Lennon and MacPherson were incompetents and both of them deserved to be relieved of their duties at SMP. The members of our current Board, several of whom courageously stepped forward in St Mirren's hour of need (effectively our hour of potential obliteration), and saved us from extinction by the asset stripper Reg Brearley should forever deserve our thanks. Thank you !!! But since then this Board's record in appointing team managers has been unforgivably bad. Perhaps the short-term success we witnessed under Tom Hendrie 15 years ago would could be regarded as the sole exception but even Tom's time in charge imploded in the end. Even the amazing league cup success in 2013 under DL turned out to be a false dawn, nothing but a flash in the pan. Ultimately this Board's strategy in selecting replacement managers has been flawed and the loyal St Mirren fans have suffered the consequences of their penny-pinching short-sightedness. Now that Ian Murray has (honourably) quit his post the BoD must get their act together and appoint the right person in the hot seat regardless of the short-term cost. Too much consideration of "well let's take the easy / cheap option as we will be selling up soon" has gone into the appointment of managers in the past. The cheapest option has been the preferred option every time. So, moving forward, NOT ALEX MILLAR !!!! The BoD have to wake up and think adventurously. They have to spend whatever is necessary to bring in the right person otherwise our spiral down the league structure will continue. NOT THE CHEAPEST OPTION !!!
  2. I can live without football on a Saturday. I watch St Mirren instead. Thanks to Ian Murray. #wearepish
  3. The fundamental problem with analysing company accounts (whether St Mirren's or any other limited company / plc) is that we are reviewing history when we should really be interested in the situation as at the present day. St Mirren's financial results for the year to May are based on the club's presence in the Premiership. Now that we are dumped into the Championship for the next 12 months and will be there (or worse) for another 12 months at least I fear that the club's "zero debt" status is likely to be blown out of the sea. Worrying times ahead IMO. Compounded by the BoD still not having grown the cahones to fire Ian Murray whose record in charge makes many of us hanker back to the glorious days of Tommy Craig's era.
  4. I thought Spectre was terrific, but why are action scenes always so LOUD !!
  5. I suggest you avoid Falkirk if you want to see the game. Try Grangemouth.
  6. I suppose everyone ought to be entitled to his / her own opinion. Maybe you should be the one exeption. Langfield is a quality goalkeeper, Ridgers couldn't lace his boots.
  7. £5 on us at 11/1, a fool and his money ?
  8. Shull, it would crazy not to rip-off the blue vermin. Our non-season ticket holders should stay at home and watch on tv. But let's rip the arse out of the vermin.
  9. Yes, because we are ripping off the supporters of the blue vermin and as a consequence our Board must increase the price of tickets at the home end to prevent the stinky vermin supporters infiltrating the St Mirren section. What is your point ? (as if I care). It is a fact that St Miirren's corporate hospitality packages are set out in 3 groups with different price ranges, A, B & C, depending on the opposition. This is a consequence of a phenomenon called Supply & Demand (try Google, select basic Economics). This phenomenon explains why a pound (or kilogram) of steak will be more expensive than a pound of dog shit. Board 1, you 0.
  10. 5-0 to us. We are due to give some team a right scudding, this weekend will do. Onwards and upwards.
  11. Are you too young to remember Celtic-biased referee Eddie Smith, a relative of Phil O'Donnell ? More corrupt than Sepp Blatter.
  12. It's a bad sign for the new manager when a level-headed poster like Mr Zo has formed a negative opinion so early in the new regime. Taking Goodwin off was a baffler for me when so many others were struggling. Let's hope Murray now realises that young Baird is not a right back.
  13. Because we're usually getting beat by half time ??? Don't you think these are small beer money raisers more appropriate to part-time / junior level teams ?
  14. I dare you. You're too big a scaredy though !
  15. IMO the best footballing side I watched on a Love Street European evening was Mechelin. A totally unheralded Belgian side that we expected to beat came to Paisley and utterly outplayed a decent St Mirren side. Then they went on to win the tournament that year.
  16. I am genuinely taken aback by the level of negativity being posted here by quite a few of our regular contributors, several of whom I would normally exclude from my list of nutters or "the usual suspects" for over-reaction and knicker-wetting. Last season was a total disaster in every conceivable way fron top to bottom. Our start point for this season is a bottom-up re-build - umpteen of last year's players dumped or walked away, youth being offered a chance, a new man in charge, etc, etc. Surely it is obvious to everyone that our early season matches would be trial & error, young players having to learn from their mistakes, and a mix of good / bad / awful new signings. It will take time for things to gel and with Rangers and Hibs in our league season 2015/16 has to be a write-off in terms of table-topping expectations. Top five at the end of the season is (IMO) acceptable, escaping a second successive relegation is our minimum requirement. Our BoD have brought in Ian Murray as a new broom with a remit to build something out of nothing. Mistakes are inevitable, FFS give the man a chance.
  17. Our new manager deserves to be given some time to develop his squad, his style of play, etc. The fans shouting "bring back Danny" in section W2 today were (I hope) joking. Or fannies. But I agree with previous posters that too many of our young hopefuls are too easily brushed aside by experienced, physically stronger opponents. IMO Goodwin should have started for us today. When Naismith had to go off Goodwin was the obvious substitute to steady the defence. The fact that Ian Murray chose to replace the injured Naismith with another young defender lacking in top-team experience instead of Jim Goodwin smacks of a personal agenda against our former captain. At best tactically naive IMO, undoubtedly a poor decision for the balance of the team, and a worrying sign regarding Murray's priorities. As I said, Murray deserves his chance to settle into his new job and he can do without plonkers in the crowd yelling insults, but maybe he needs to be more mature and avoid creating vendettas for the overall benefit of our team performances.
  18. Ah Arthur Daley - to quote the legend, the world was his lobster. R.I.P George.
  19. Jings, that is seriously fat. A short arse and a lard arse, not promising.
