You can question Jim's methods but I would hazard a guess he was doing exactly the job he was asked. Young lads playing at the top of their game full of gallus bravado against a team smarting from 2 bad defeats. What did anyone expect us to do - stand off them so we could all cream our pants about the amazing Utd talent while watching them pump us off the park ? Yes it looked bad on TV and yes it was a bit of a cheap shot but the boy wasn't hurt (rubbing the back of his head WTF) and the ref saw it and took no action. He might well get a ban now but let's not underestimate the part the challenges had in winning us a vital 3 points they shat their pants after 3 hard clashes in the 1st 10 mins. It horses for courses and we need every point we can get and personally I loved the game a cracking cup tie type match easily the most thrilling of the season.

They concentrate on what the ref didn't do concerning the other teams players. I'm not the biggest DL fan but at least when we get beat he puts it down to bad day. This is probably the first time I've ever disagreed with you Dave. We should stand by our own players at any cost. We all knew exactly what we were bringing in when we signed him , as I had already given him pelters for his antics when he was an Accie. Until we replace him with hopefully another ,younger , sitting midfielder then I'm right behind him when he's on the park ! You can be sure that if he was a United player, in the same circumstances , McNamara would be defending him to the hilt !

I think it's utterly hilarious at the genuine seethe opposition fans have for big Jim, if any of these numpties were around in the 70's and 80's to see genuine hatchet men who make Jim look like a big gentle giant in comparison to the likes of Gregor Stevens and our own Abercromby.
Every team needs a Jim Goodwin, a proper hard tackling no nonesense footballer, who incidentally can ping a pass 60 or 70 yards when he's on his game. He's not everyone's cup of tea , but I love him in the stripes.

The main reason we won the game was down to commitment Jim gave 100% as did others and they were rattled.

My opinion on Jim Goodwin is that he is a good player and captain for us, but needs to cut out the nonsense that only lets himself down and on occassions his team-mates.
McGinn, McLean and McGowan can do their stuff far more effectively with Jim Goodwin in there with them doing the graft. Just cut out the un-necessary stuff please Jim.
