Seaside Nipper
Hmm, look forward to the Revenue streams arriving to prop up the Scottish government spending plans. A most timely find tbh , great stuff
RickMcD
It's bound to be a millstone round their neck. The price of oil is far too volatile. Etc The British Government has a lot more sense than to attach pie in the sky assumptions about future revenue streams. That behaviour is only for the desperate. RickMcD
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-32229203 Love the title of this thread, by the way, as they say in the west of Scotland.

Stuart Dickson
It's the SNPs way of ending poverty. If e eryone in Scotland is unemployed and the country is f**ked there will be fewer households caught with an income of less than 60% of the median. Scotland's huge financial loss would be Tyneside's gain. you no it makes sense. I'm sure the people of Tyneside will be falling over themselves to welcome the MoD and all it's nuclear warheads. Oh aye, and back on topic. The company says further drilling and well testing will be needed to prove these initial results. Complete speculation at present. Funny how this has surfaced just before the general election.

It will be Armageddon and I don't mean of the Stewart Gilmour variety. It's utter naievety to believe other. Might as well keep the jobs in Scotland. Callum Gilhooley
It changes nothing. Renewables are the future. Oil is the past. The sooner we ween ourselves off it, the better. Really . Must remember that when i`m flying in my solar / wind / tidal / biomass / fairy feckin dust powered plane to Ireland next week !! Oil is here & now . Without oil & its associated products this and every other country on earth would grind to a halt & whether we accept it or not ,its going to be that way for decades to come. I appreciate we need to cut our reliance on fossil fuels but that green future is a long long time away .
Callum Gilhooley
The Norwegian Navy, Air Force and Army, of course. I have it on good authority that they have a large navy consisting of whales, dolphins and seals, an air force consisting of puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes and various species of raptor, with an army of lynx, wolverines, bears and wolves. Norway never paid a penny to acquire them and they renew themselves free of charge - although you cannot be guaranteed exactly how many you have at any particular time. Hope that helps. Navy seals of course.

bluto
And yous are getting he-haw, ya "northern home counties" wankers. It's all oors. I'm a Londoner, not Essex. Londoners are the heid yins. Always have been. We'll decide who gets what, as usual. But you Kent that. Couldn't our government create ie development jobs on future technology instead of donating millions if not billions to a foreign county? Which foreign County were you thinking of? It changes nothing. Renewables are the future. Oil is the past. The sooner we ween ourselves off it, the better. If I knew how to 'ween', I would. Probably... Well... when I opened this topic, I never guessed it would generate such contention and disharmony... That would be so unlike me.
pod
Once we get rid of the sub's, the oil off Arran will be all oor's. That's why the Scottish Government bought Prestwick for the shuttling.

thomsons dropped it
Recoverable reserves are notoriously difficult to predict.... Where I work on the Foinaven Field West of Shetland , we were originally expected to be on site for 8 years from 1996. Here we are 19 years later and the latest estimate is we have recovered 33% so far. Last December we hit 350,000,000 barrels produced. (Fancy bottle of whisky has been dispatched.) Latest Field Life is early 2030's....more than enough to see me Retired and Major Shareholder at St. Mirren..... If the estimates down south are anywhere near correct then there is some serious money to be had.Oil still has a Major part to play in our Economy/Future. And it will be a big earner for donkeys years despite the push for renewals etc. Who said otherwise? Bad losers do of course.
