Steven Gerrard - End Of An Era

Undoubtedly the best and most consistent British midfielder of his generation. Many of the goals he's scored are amongst the best you'll see as well. Like others on here I like the fact he chose to stay at his home town team. All the more remarkable when you consider what a hole Liverpool is, which I think we can all relate to. I heard his valedictory on the radio, but without subtitles I couldn't understand a word. If he becomes a pundit alongside the impenetrable Jamie Carragher I will need a scouse translator or subtitles.

Actually that Giggs chap maybe runs him close.

Giggs, Beckham and Scholes have won more honours than Gerrard. (Indeed, as they all played for the same team 1eye.gif )

Even Lampard has scored more goals and won more honours than Gerrard.

I'm not saying he was the best, most agree Scholes was the best midfielder in the Premiership.

He was at Liverpool when United were sweeping all before them.

He still managed to help them win the Champions League, against all odds.

He could have went to Chelsea and also abroad and won more trophies but he was loyal to Liverpool in an age when loyalty is becoming very rare.

It seemed the crowd at yesterdays game thought he was "half decent" bye1.gif

Loyal. Hmmm. A contentious term for a professional footballer.

Does loyal include having shedloads of money tipped into your pockets?

I'd bet that he's not the most impoverished person on Merseyside - and possibly not as loyal as those who week in, week out paid his wages.

I'm just sayin, like....
