Nazon and Cooke got our goals, and Edwards got their 4th.... It is not exactly inspiring that 2 of our strikers only managed one goal, one of which was a penalty, against a reserve team... I am not normally the prophet of gloom, but I wanted more from Nazon. Cooke perhaps still has time on his side though. Edwards has found his level... mattman
Seen the record reporting that st Johnstone as well as the OF are pulling out from reserve football next season with more set to follow as they feel the games don’t bring much in terms of youth development, I’ve always thought the reserve league was great, especially for players coming back from injury/fringe players. Thoughts ? Also St Johnstone pushing for colt teams to be introduced into lower leagues is one i find rather strange.

Think you need a wee edit - it looks like bad English - the of you mean the O.F. (Old Firm) - maybe others will get it instantly, but it took me a couple of reads... I agree -we don't need them. The Fakes are probably penny pinching and planning to pinch players from other teams more so than building their team through development. We absolutely need to keep developing players and that does mean letting them play with 1st team regulars from time to time competitively... When you look at our team over the last 10 years or so , we've always had at least 1 or 2 players that have come from the academy. The academy has served us really well and playing in the reserve league can surely only benefit their progress towards the 1st team.

I think the point being made by the club's that pulled out though is that the reserve league is not developing players and alot of the time the opposition is of a terrible standard and not taking the game seriously. Also there were issues highlighted with the standard of pitches. I don't know enough about it to have a huge opinion either way but it should definitely be looked in to. It might be better for the development if we just organise games on a weekly basis individually throughout a season. Then we can be sure of the standard of opposition and quality of playing surface. If you have an artifical pitch then playing another 20 games with your colt team at home in the lower divisions and getting 2-300 paying customers must have a certain appeal

Yeah they wont, but their opponents might Dunfermline, Falkirk, Clyde, Raith Rovers there is some reasonable support down the divisions Not that I'm for the idea
