If that's true we might not get Cambpell either ,they won't want to send an 18 year old up here on his own .

If the fans that are calling for Thommo to be manager get their wish ,he's not scored in our last 5 competitive games if that continues does he drop himself.

I don't remember being shot to pieces, but I do have a rather painful right knee so if you or Scrappy Coco could supply me with the names of the shooter I'd be happy to take your evidence to the police.... The way I remember it was that actually there were several people who posted saying that they feared that I might actually be right.
I was speculating, of course, not shit stirring. If you look up my post I said that it made sense to cut the playing budget this season and to use it as a year to blood youngsters into the first team squad. Hearts starting on -15 points; with a weakened squad; and with a transfer embargo in place means that all St Mirren really need to do over the coming months is to ensure that they beat Hearts or at the very least not lose to Hearts. That will ensure Hearts will be relegated and it would secure at least 11th place in the league for the Buddies and at worst a play off place. After the first round of fixtures St Mirren are still bang on target because Hearts now have only 37 league matches in which to overturn the 15 point deficit.
It makes sense for a number of reasons.
    1. You may start to see a return from your youth development programme and from the facilities at Ralston and from that ridiculous bouncy castle in the car park. John McGinn was a success for St Mirren last season, so why not see if the likes of Naismith, Kelly, Reilly, Brady, and Yacub can make their first team breakthrough? Why not see if the club can give them a place to showcase their skills in the hope of receiving a return on investment if one or two of lads manage to start attracting the attention of some English Championship or Premiership sides.
    2. The selling consortium has valued St Mirren FC Ltd at £4m. That valuation looks utterly ridiculous when over the last 15 years the balance sheet has seldom shown a profit and even when it does show a profit it's very modest and usually in no more than the low tens of thousands. To use popular culture to back up my point can you imagine Stewart Gilmour stood in front of Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis, Duncan Bannatyne and Deborah Meaden telling them he was looking for £2m of investment in return for a 51% stake in the business whilst quoting 15 years worth of financials that shows the business seldom does better than break even. So why not use this season as an opportunity to make a decent profit, show any potential buyer that it can be done and make their shareholding look a bit more enticing?
    3. The fans of the club were stupid enough to hand over up front payments for the season without knowing who would be entertaining them. It's a bit like paying to see a theatre production of some play or another without reading the reviews and without knowing the cast. You may do it if you have faith in the storyline and the producer but I would imagine most would want to know at least a few of the people in the cast. The fact that the money is in the bank and the fans are locked in for a season must make point 2 even more enticing. Who could blame them?
I wouldn't sack DL unless or until he loses the first match against Hearts. Knickerwetting is silly when the important point from the weekend is that Hearts lost and now need to overturn a 15 point deficit with only 111 points left to play for. Apart from anything else it would be incredibly stupid to make all those financial savings only to have to make a payout to Lennon.

Does this agent honestly believe that a few anonymous keyboard scribblers have an influence on anything?
Only decision makers can have an influence and I don't believe we have heard anything from any of them on this forum.
No wonder Gus McPherson always said that he didn't look at fan forums.

I think we should be thankful that winning the league cup didn't qualify us for Europe, what would it be like on the forum today if we had been gubbed in our first three competitive matches .

That's another thing that should concern the board ,if we do hit a bad run or the football gets very poor ,people stop going ,I know season tickets have been bought anyway but we still get fans who go and pay on the day a couple of hundred down and its a big drop on the cashflow .

I find it hard to believe that DL doesn't want to spend money and bring in better players, but someone is holding the funds ,there are not many managers when given the chance , would not add to their squad .

Every year our board try to survive relegation with spending as little money as possible....no fcuking ambition.
with the hearts situation this year the board must have been rubbing there hands, its no gonnae work this year
at least 2 defenders and 2 strikers are needed ....or we're fcuked big time..........

Years ago I was at a talk given by Rinus Michels ,when he was talking about how the Dutch had developed a system over years , the kids didn't play in leagues or for medals or trophies ,they were coached with a football at their feet and how to control it ,header it and pass it .

Now "Our Ken" this may be beyond you but judging from the quality of the thread that you have started I would wager that not much in a footballing sense is.
At the imaginary and much fabled Black & White Army annual awards dinner I would very much like to nominate this very thread for the category of
    "Thread of the year".
This is simply the most important subject in modern Scottish football and topics raised in this the "thread of the year" hilight the very issues that the Scottish Football Association along with the Scottish Amateur Football Association should be identifying and attempting to address.
Football in many countries has improved (and that is a good thing) but unfortunately our little but great nation has somewhat stood still or even wandered backwards. Great read this thread, think I shall read it again, read it again indeed!

We could twist things around and say that as a club we were struggling with debt in a crumbling old stadium and at best could yo-yo from Div 1 to the top flight. Our players hopped in a shitty bus to drive to Renfrew or Bellahouston Park to train - dodging dug' shite and broken bottles. Campbell did his best with diners scattered about in different rooms, showing prospective signings around the 'facilities' was done through gritted teeth, and guys like Tommy Doc' were more often than not trying to sellotape bits of the old main stand together using sticky-back plastic and old cornflake boxes....
Now we are in a neat modern stadium, chosen by the Scotland U21s as their home. An award winning pitch and groundsman, a clean spacious corporate environment, a smart reception and dressing rooms. A new inflatable dome facility, our own dedicated training ground, a growing relationship with an EPL club, a trophy in the cabinet, and guys with international caps in our team, one of whom actually supports our club. We have a crop of promising youngsters about to break through, and improving talent like McGinn, McGowan and Reilly. We have won awards for our community initiatives, and are watching as other, formerly bigger clubs are wallowing up to their necks in shite.
Life ain't so bad you know.
