Very sad news. I've fond memories of Cubby from when I travelled on the Knox St bus with my Gran & Papa in the 80s and early 90s, as well as from my time as a ball boy. Cubby never gave in to our demands for an increase to the £1 a game wage!
Condolences to his son Scott(?) and the family.
I managed to dig out an old photo. I remember Cubby organising the Knox St bus through to Edinburgh for a sing song against Dunfermline supporters on live tv for STV's charity telethon! Cubby is standing behind Santaponsasaint.

apart from all that, must have been a good deal financially for the club. Been led to believe that is all that should matter, Taking a deal that puts the most into St Mirrens coffers, even if it means selling our soul to the devil.
For a few dollars more, St Mirren will
allow a replica kit supplier to provide the most shoddy of shoddy provisions
    rebrand it's stadium.
use part of the busiest home stand {inconveniencing St Mirren supporters} to accommodate away fans of some clubs.
I'd rather see an active commercial department maximising revenue streams so that St Mirren didn't feel the need to sell it's soul f0r a few dollars more.
    Here's hoping, the BoD are paying attention & already thinking of where to go once this deal finishes {too much to expect their being a clause to extricate The Club from the current deal in time for next season}

I've no issue with them renting the stadium to play a few games. My issue is with allowing them to market themselves by putting their branding on the outside of the stadium.
Consider this scenario and give your thoughts. I'm genuinely interested to gauge opinion...
St.Mirren are playing a home game against Celtic. Celtic offer us £5k/£10k to use and rebrand the shop; much much more than we could ever make in revenue from the shop on a normal match day.
    Aye or naw?

It is a good bit of business to lease the stadium for 10 days and get the income.
But As the old saying goes, they understand the cost but don't understand the value.
from branding and marketing point of view, to let them put the badge on the front of the stadium is just wrong. Allowing the brand of a business competitor to be promoted in the heart of the community that we should be actively encouraging to support st.mirren and become customers for years to come.
Yet, it will be easier for a kid from feegie park with limited social mobility to buy a Celtic strip than a st.mirren strip.

So it's actually easier to buy a Celtic top at our ground than our own strip!
Why couldn't they just set up a merchandise trailer?
Div, the forum might go into meltdown....

As others on here have said, I've no issue with us leasing the stadium. Celtic and rangers reserves have used our grounds over the years, it's nothing new. As a financial agreement, it suits us.
What irks me is the fact that we are allowing Celtic to deface the stadium and promote themselves in our community ( so called 'one town, one team') and target our potential future supporters.
The fact that Celtic go to these lengths and have thought about signage throughout the stadium, shows the differing approaches and professionalism between the clubs. If there is one positive then let it be that st.mirren are taught a valuable lesson in brand management and marketing.
