Big_Mougie reacted to Leicester Saint in The Leicester City Thread
As an exiled Buddie living in Leicester for some years now, it never gets any easier following St.Mirren from afar.
Think how you feel when you're on holiday and you're trying to find out the Saints score, relying on Sky TV, phone calls home, or texts from family & friends. Well, that's me every week!
Apart from that, I just miss the atmosphere of being at a game, and I look forward to the few games I do get to, or seeing us live on TV whenever we're on.
To try to still get some kind of football fix, I started following Leicester City, my local team obviously, and while never a replacement, is still really enjoyable.
I go to see them often, even been to a few away games, and got quite into it. Once I got over the fact they play in blue, it was fine. It's only a colour...
All my family & friends have been to matches too and it's usually a pretty bloody amazing atmosphere!
So, I thought I might write about my football experiences, following Leicester City, looking for news on St.Mirren and hoping for wins for both.
Updates on City's games, life in the Championship, my thoughts on what's happening in Paisley at the same time, that kind of thing. I'll see how it feels and write what might be interesting. Maybe at the end of the season I'll write a book, who knows!?
If you're not interested in it, that's fine, you don't have to read it! But I thought it might be interesting to let people hear about the life of a distant Buddie trying to get through the season with his adopted team, but as a still very committed St.Mirren fan. If nothing else, it might be quite cathartic for me to do it!! (Thanks Thommo...)
Any other exiles will, I'm sure, empathise!!
So, first game(s) this weekend. Saints are at ICT, Leicester away to Middlesbrough. A point for both wouldn't be a disaster. Reckon it'll be Soccer Saturday for me, and bitten fingernails!
Come on ye Saints, and Come on you Foxes!

    From Sky Sports
St Mirren boss Danny Lennon has hinted he would be keen to take young Newcastle striker Adam Campbell on loan.
The Paisley side have already borrowed left-back Paul Dummett and midfielder Conor Newton from the Magpies as part of an affiliation deal between the two clubs.
Both players played key roles as Lennon's side secured their first major trophy in 26 years with victory over Hearts 3-2 in the Scottish Communities League Cup final.
The pair have now been rewarded with new deals on Tyneside and Lennon revealed he had spoken to counterpart Alan Pardew after Tuesday's friendly between the sides about how Campbell might benefit from a similar spell.
"I looked at their squad on Tuesday night and even when they were taking guys off they were replacing them with players who are top drawer," Lennon said.
"Conor Newton came on in the second half and he did very well for us last year and we now have a strong affiliation with Newcastle.
"Young Adam Campbell looked lively when he came on and he is a player we are more than aware of."
ETA. Also seems to be on a bunch of other sites som there may be some truth in it.......Not that it is really news.....

Having read your post I am having some difficulty in marrying your forum user name with the content of your post.
If I may hilight the issues that have driven me to a derisory shake of the head
    1) No "Truesaint" or proper fan of the Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co would openly berate our own players on a public forum in such a manner. Such behavioiur is both unwarranted and unwelcome.
    2) You assertion that "Vanzy" is not of the required quality may well be your opinion. My opinion differs somewhat in that after a realtively mild pre-season for him in terms of his own performance levels we, the fans of the club, know that young David is a better player than he has recently shown and his form is certian to return.
    3) Your assertion that "Goodwin" is an old slow player is also quite unfair and counter productive. My opinion differs again from yours in that I think that our James is actually more mobile than most who play in the centre half position. I agree however that he is not a natural centre back and I would prefer a different option. That said his performances in that position last season were actually rather good and a major contributing factor in our league cup success.
    4) Why would you assert that "McGregor" is short of fitness? Whilst I am aware that he has returned from not one, but two career threatening injuries (much to his credit it really has to be said) he has enjoyed (or rather endured) a full pre-season fitness programme along with his colleagues and team mates. He may require some extra game time but when the season commences that will prove to be an easy fix. I for one am very glad to have Darren McGregor back and I wish him a fruitful and injury free season.
    5) "McAusland who makes too many mistakes". I mean really? Young Marc McAusland has matured into the best centre half currently at our club. If it were not for him last season I really do expect that our beloved team would have been relegated in the midst of the great centre half shortage of 2012. As all young players he did make mistakes when first thrust unto the throes of first team action. He no longer makes mistakes with such regularity and any proper football fan could not fail to see that. I absolutlely and resolutely reject your sorry and ill-informed comments about one of our team most important players. If we also consider that he is indeed a true Buddie in every sense of the word then I must damn your comments in the strongest sense. Damn them indeed!
    6) "Danny Grainger is a welcome addition to the club". In this at least we do agree, agreement indeed!

Ah the quote of the immature non Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co supprting internet troll.
The claim that this is the "wost St Mirren team EVER" has actually made me laugh and also brought back some very, very unpleasant memories. From now on I would urge all forum user's to completely ignore your input on this forum as it has no credability or substance. You will likely join Faraway Saint on my ignore list. Ignore list's are very useful and certianly enhance one enjoyment of the forum, enhances it indeed!
To sum up "Ignore this fellow and lets get on with the constructive and enjoyable conversation that we were having".
Also I would like to add how pleased I was at the performance of all of our young players against a strong Newcastle side. Thomas Reilly and John McGinn immediately stand out but when thinking of it in more detail they all did well. More so than last week I see promising times ahead, promising times indeed!

On the subject of our two new 'dud' goalies - I distinctly remember Gareth Bale being pish at the start of his Spurs career - when he played, Spurs lost. I remember Patrice Evra having a howler in his Man Utd debut. Pretty sure Henrik Larsson was a bit whiffy at the start of his Celtic career. Didn't he score an own goal on his debut or something?
They should all have been binned. Shot. Slapped with a wet fish.

St Mirren fans are no different from any others. The worst abuse I ever heard was while sitting in the home stand at Falkirk and the abuse being dished out to John Hughes was unbelievable. Two home fans started scuffling with each other before their mates calmed the situation down before the stewards did.
I watched us using a friend's Celtic ST, and the abuse being given to Samaras was frightening.

FFS. No competitive games played AT ALL, probably still learning their team-mates names, playing behind a just-back-from injury McGregor and a kid thrown in at left back, then a 3-5-2 trial with a brand-new player introduced for the first time... and our two keepers are duds? This is a disgrace, even by St Mirren knickerwetting standards. Takes knickerwetting to a whole new gusset-drenched level.
FFS Danny - phone Iker Casillas or Gianluigi Buffon today, before a St Mirren fan actually drowns in their own pants.

Norrie you promised you'd give us a break from this negative pish.
It seems there are very few on here who understand what a pre-season game is for.
They are borderline non-competitive. A chance for players to get fit and for the team to try some things out and a bit of fun for the fans to see how a professional football team prepares itself for a new season.
To compare the last 3 games with Inverness is brainless. Seriously. You did this last year after our 6 defeats in a row when you asked "Can you see us winning next week blah blah blah....." before we went off and went on a long and largely unbeaten stretch culminating in our Cup win.
Please FFS stop the negative pish. It sucks the life out of people.
Let's see how the first 10 games progress. Nobody cares about your prediction for when Danny will get the boot.

Re-signing him technically WAS a new signing in some respects, though.
I would certainly class it as one of the best pieces of business by any SPFL club this close season.

I would take Imrie back ahead of Carey any day. Unfit, uninterested underacheiver who had plenty of opportunities and took none of them. At least Imrie gave his best, was always fit and didn't hide.

Yeah but you've prob just heard some stat prob today watching the Celtic game and decided we should sign this boy! You don't know how much it would cost, how much the transfer would be, how long a contract he's still on, what's his wages like! Basically I would imagine u know f**k all about him, and lets be honest if someone had mentioned the name before tonight u would have prob been moaning too! I know we all want signings but there's no point just picking out randoms! If by my mistake u are some sort of expert on the northern Irish league them why haven't u brought this boys name up before???

No doubt, but I'm calling it as I see it.
To be fair to Danny, he knows fine that Saints underachieved last season in the SPL. Its now down to him to sort it out for next term.
That said, many of the players have to reflect on their contributions also - but, as it happens, most of them are already away.

Even if we did go with youngsters ie Reilly and Kelly, it's hardly "flooding" the team with youngsters. The amount of people with unrealistic expectations and panicking when there's still weeks to go to the start of the season is unreal. I have no doubt there will be signings but I'm not going to have a meltdown and blame everyone from Danny to the BOD when a ball hasn't even been kicked yet!

States that David Cornell looks impressive - commanding in the box and a good save so far, could do nothing for the goal.
    Sounds promising!!!
