That's an excellent point and in amongst the unbelievable nonsense involving a director moronically offering to fight an equally moronic fan, it's keeping me sane right now. 

I do remember NBM saying that and we did want Greg Stewart right through the window but IIRC, we prioritised getting NBM ahead of Stewart and by time we made the move, bigger fish were already making the move. Easy with 20/20 hindsight but that was a massive misstep.
Halkett was a huge miss, could you imagine if we'd just spent that outlay for Heaton on Halkett instead and given him 3 years? We'd have been easily able to command high 6 figures for him by now. (EDIT: See Magic Monkey made this point just before me).
Christ, Tam O'Ware would have been better than Heaton and he missed the full season with cruciate ligament tears.
There were a few players in the early days of Stubbs that would have been a clear indicator of intent (Beltrame from Juventus - who went on to have a tremendous season in the Dutch league, Adam Rooney) and he built a rod for his own back with the 'marquee' talk.
I do agree that it's proving difficult but as other clubs now finalise squads, hopefully we'll see a bit of movement in the coming week. Again, I'm happy enough to see us wait for quality - provided it IS quality. I don't think anyone at the club is yet panicking - if they were, you get the feeling at least 2 or 3 guys like Longridge and other championship level journeymen would have been on board by now.

If that is true then it was obviously a disaster.

However, IIRC, we signed BM and I can can them remember an article where BM was urging Stewart to join him.

But he chose Kilmarnock instead.

I believe that Stewart simply chose Kilmarnock over us.

Like last season, it’s proving very difficult to get in decent players.

The real big miss for me was Stubbs not going on to sign Halkett from Livi and signing Heaton instead FFS.

To be fair to Stubbs though, he didn’t actually let him go. IIRC, he was trying to get Gregg Stewart in at the time he wanted to offload Smith.

But, like this season, actually getting in top quality proved to be quite difficult.....

Is he better than what we have? Yes he is.

I've gone full circle and I'm now convinced the club is going to pull some mad deals out the bag. This is based on nothing except blind optimism and the fact that we've done some very good, very late, deals in the recent past.
I'm less optimistic that these will be in place for Hibs. I was considering getting the train up the coast for that game but I think it might be a bit bleak.

Fair enough, didn’t hear that as I don’t listen to Sportsound. My next random guess will be Kilmarnock then 
The guys still a proven goalscorer. We couldn’t put a goal in open play past three sides miles below us in the league system. I dislike the guy and think he’s a knobend, but on footballing ability I’d very easily take him right now.

There's a 28-year old forward/striker who Jim used to play with, is proven at this level (13 goals in 35 games two seasons ago), is a free agent and is a cult hero round Paisley parts.

I heard a few weeks back that we were after Safranko. I never say a word to anyone, but it's not inconceivable that these things creep out.
The other angle is that he's played in Scotland, is decent, we need signings, so they've put 2+2 together.

BBC updates are not saying whether Goodwin was in our dug out in plenty of time before the game got underway.

That leaked from the Dutch side - first any of us heard of it was from a Dutch journalist. Clearly leaked by his agent. Bit unfair to blame the cub for that.

Magennis unlucky to score after taking it past the keeper but at a tight angle and Mullen had two great chances that he should've put away.

Nottingham Forest striker Virgil Gomis will be joining St Mirren on loan until Janauary and German defender Maximilian Neuberger will be on loan to St Mirren until the end of the season.
