Agree, you can tell by the amount of formations and starting elevens on here that you can't run a football team by committee. We can't even agree on the problem, some say Thommo can't play up front on his own, or DL can't accommodate Gowser and Harkins, or we don't have a natural holding mid since Goodwin went to back 4 (which is either his best or worst position depending on who you speak to), or DVZ's too old and of course if you listen to gstretchuk then cheesy should be taken out and shot.
    Good luck Danny and COYS

I just wanted to bring this post out onto it's own thread.
We are getting conflicting media reports from a range of trusted people about Danny's future.
It's pretty clear that at least one director is saying stuff which seems to conflict with what Stewart Gilmour has been saying.
We may also be seeing fans with an agenda spreading deliberately false information in order to hasten Danny's departure.
I'd like to make a request.
Our club is clearly being damaged from within in addition to what is happening on the pitch.
Whoever is doing it needs to f**king stop NOW.
The situation with Danny will take care of itself (we all have naturally differing and heated opinions about that) but we certainly don't need people within the club and fanbase allowing their egos to make things worse.
That's the reason for splitting this post into a new thread.
This is not a thread about Danny.
This is about certain people trying to f**k over our club for apparently no gain.
Please stop this whoever you are.
    We are ALL St Mirren.

Not sacking him after just 4 fecking games is a decent start.
The board have clearly realised EVERYONE is in this together.
It's only when everyone pulls together to help and it's STILL failing then you can think about parting ways.
We're obviously not at that point yet and I'm glad the board have more sense than the ordinary fan.
We also need to do our bit by not undermining him.
When Saints turn the corner we surely all want to say that we were part of it, that we closed together and didn't isolate one of our club legends, that we supported a club employee whilst he was still at the club and that we didn't do the usual OF thing and wilfully hurt one of our own?
Surely losing our manager and knowing we backed him all the way is the honourable course for us?
Isn't that what community clubs are about?
I'm proud of our board tonight.

I actually feel gutted for Danny.
He's a decent human being, and whether he has run out of ideas/simply isn't up to the job, or hasn't received the backing of the BoD and/or some players, I don't think he deserves our scorn and contempt.
One of the abiding memories I will have of Danny is when he simply turned and looked at the crowd at Hampden when Newton scored the 3rd goal in the final. I genuinely believe that he was at least as happy to have delivered that win for us as for himself. There is a warmth and regard there that few managers we've had in recent memory have felt towards the supporters - probably since Tony Fitz. And all that despite not having a long-term affinity with the club.
I feel utterly deflated tonight, but I'm not blaming Danny Lennon. Of course he has to take his share of responsibility, but so do others, some of whom seem untouchable at times.
Whatever happens, I'll always hold the guy in high regard for delivering the best day of my Saints supporting life. He'll always be a hero for that.
    Its a bloody shame.

I am neither a knickerwetter nor a happyclapper, I simply want the best for my club. If Pep, Jose, Vincent etc are available, within our price range, and willing to come to paisley then I'd be chuffed to have them but if we're being realistic we're looking at calderwood, Jeffries, Houston in which case I think we're far better off with Dl & TC.
I like DL, I like the style of football he tries to play, I've criticised him for sacrificing McGowan to give Harkins a free role and for dropping McGinn to play McLean and I still think a return to 4,2,3,1 is required but overall the last couple of seasons have had great highs that should give us fans a more benevolent attitude towards the management team.

Look guys, we need to stick with Danny. It's ridiculous to be thinking about getting rid of him. He won us the cup for goodness sake and beat Aberdeen, hearts and Celtic on the way. It was no fluke. He's managing a team on a small budget having to make do with loan options. Some of the guys who did well last season haven't switched on yet either..we've only played 3 games!!..I know we've been poor since winning the cup, but we were all hung over for the rest of the season after the cup run. Preseason has never been great for us and, as I said, we've only played 3 games, 2 of them away in the highlands, where we never travel well anyway, and a point at home to killie, a game we should've been 2 up in early on but for good inspired goalkeeping by Samson and poor finishing.we've got QOTS tomorrow, yet another long trip away to a newly promoted team who will be a real test for us and I'd be happy with a draw...changing the manager at this stage will make no difference to the players available. Stick with Danny till everybody has played each other once before all this nonsense..come on the buddies

    There are two issues here.
Firstly, there's the issue of whether abusing a man when he is doing his job is acceptable or not.
IMO there are no circumstances under which that can ever be acceptable.
My gripes on here have been purely about the abuse this one poor bastard is getting despite his record giving us the best two seasons we've experienced in a qarter of a century.
Secondly, there's the issue of blind faith.
I have blind faith in nobody.
    Here's my viewpoint.
We have a board of directors.
I have the ability to pay them and take over but I choose not to for various reasons.
The downside of that is I have no say over who we hire as manager and thus players, tactics etc.
I therefore accept that I have no control.
My only options now are to support the structure and people in place or walk away.
I choose to support them while they are at our club because I know two things.
Firstly we are struggling. Secondly booting people in the balls for struggling hardly ever works (please don't start quoting Fergie because most of that hairdryer stuff is myth). Because I am a supporter I have only one job. That job is not to make things worse by resorting to verbally abusing the team. I may not make a positive difference by happy clapping but I sure as hell can make it worse by booing and screaming abuse.
So what about Danny then? Well it's not our decision. The decision lies with the board. If the board support Danny then I personally will support him.
It's what support means. It's not happy clapping and it's not blind faith. It's recognising that there's not a chance I'm going to do anything to contribute to our teams worsening performances.
I'll say something else. We have a suspiciously large number of new members at the moment all using similar phrases to make personal attacks on our manager and our team. Have a wee look and convince me that we don't have a multiple alias problem.
One final point. our club is in the shit right now. Something is wrong. Our players are struggling and our manager looks and sounds like a broken man. A bit of human compassion is required here. I'm very disappointed that in their hour of need our fans are deserting them in droves. I'm particularly angry about the treatment handed out to Danny after what he's given us recently.
As fans our job is to support the team and the manager while he is in the job.
Let the board worry about sacking him.
All the majority of fans are doing is making it worse.
Honestly we couldn't f**k over our own team more if we paid Morton fans to come to our ground each week with a hymn sheet of abusive songs.

I'm concerned that we are pinning our hopes on a new striker when our lack of results seem to me to be caused by our inability to create from midfield and our inability to protect our back four.
For example, in our cup run last season and particularly the semi and final our midfield 5 set up:
    newton McGinn
    Teale. McGowan. Gonzales
now, in order to accommodate Harkins we are setting up:
    Teale. Newton. McGowan. McLean
    Harkins
This means dropping McGinn although he was our best performing midfielder pre-season, asking McGowan to play deep which has meant none of those short, quick diagonal passes that split defences before, and also offers (sorry Paul), no protection to the back four. It also encourages Harkins to float about which works occasionally in games but leaves gaping holes if we lose possession. Since we have almost the same personnel as before, substituting Goncalves with Harkins, can we please go back to the previous set up.
I would like to sign a backup striker, but moving to 4,4,2 with our current midfield could be disastrous as we'd be likely to line up with:
    Teale. Newton. McGowan. Harkins
And I think we'd lose even more goals as there would be hardly any protection for the back four.
I don't want to see anyone sacked but realistically I reckon Danny has the QOS and Thistle games to keep his job, but I believe he has a better chance if he sorts out what he already has rather than relying on signing a saviour.

    Yes OK but why?
Why not try him out as a main 1st team player?
    Why not take the gamble?
Relegation isn't a financial disaster anymore, Hearts are at -12 points and getting a proven striker in isn't going to happen because everyone else will also be after them.
I can't think of a more perfect time to try these kids out for real.
If it goes south we can always get more players in during January.
Do we really think we'll be hopelessly cut adrift by then?
There may not be a less risky time to do it.
IMO this is a perfectly good risk strategy.
Imagine if the risk pays off?
Can we not at least TRY risking it until the end of the transfer window?

Are they? Who has done it? Who has signed decent players in time to be ready?
After 2 matches for most teams I'd say it was nigh on impossible to tell.
ICT? Yep good start but so what? They could easily pick up just 5 point in the next 11 matches (as they've managed to do before).
Killie are talking about needing more players. So are Celtic. Ross are already struggling. Motherwell want more bodies in too. Dundee Utd have had a terrible start and are short of players. There's not a single team in this league 100% happy with their squad.
There's too much emphasis on getting a good start which means that getting a bad start is elevated to something akin to a close family member dying.
Some of the comments on this forum really are embarassing given how early in the season we are.
Are we really to tolerate perhaps 38 consecutive weeks of this negativity?
All I want to see is whether our young lads are capable of making the step up to play at this level.
They are getting their chance and IMO we need to stop acting like spoilt cunts with an entitlement complex and allow them a supportive couple of months to see if they can make the grade. Instead of that we have twats knocking guys like Reilly by refusing to acknowledge we have this young striker at the club. According to Norrie and a couple of other twats we only have one striker - they make this point repeatedly. How do people think Thomas feels reading that on this forum? Make no mistake our players read these boards.
If we sign another 2 or 3 experienced players then guys like Thomas will be back to square one - out of the 1st team.
As Saints fans surely we're above all this OF-esque behaviour.
Circumstances are forcing us to give these boys a chance to play, f**k things up occasionally and perhaps grow into top players from the experience. They will be bullied and kicked by bigger and more experienced players from other teams. They'll fail occasionally but get back up and try again for the cause. Under these circumstances they need our help week in week out.
Every fan should support them and stop whining about players we DONT have.
Wow - the only thing missing from my post is Land of Hope and Glory playing in the background.

I think one of our main problems is trying to give Harkins the freedom to play all where he wants meaning McGowan and Teale in particular have to be much more disciplined and play deeper. Killie wouldn't do that and Harkins spat the dummy, Dundee did fit their team round him but got relegated. I think we need to ask Harkins to play left mid in a 4-2-3-1, replacing Isma from last season's team but keeping that shape, all that said the back four will need to improve dramatically.
