bazil85 reacted to Wendy Saintss in Welcome Sam Foley
Would the fact that he played for a team at the top of the Championship the previous year while last season he played for a struggling Premiership team be the reason?

bazil85 got a reaction from Isle Of Bute Saint in Cooke out for 2 months (at least)
Gutted for him, this could have been a massive year for him in football. Hope he makes a fast & full recovery and can still feature.

That's just not true, he made a number of great saves. We know you hate him but it won't change his rightful place in our HOF as a double cup winning legend.

As far as I have seen, every player signed for Scottish clubs that played outside Scotland last season has this wee tag line. It doesn't greatly mean anything, international clearance isn't like a work permit & wouldn't generally break a deal... Unless you're of the LPM school of thought and think German footballers could get knocked back from working in Scotland.
Good luck Sam, very healthy competition in the middle of the park now & the wings. Two strikers, a left back & some competition at the back & I'd be happy now. Not too much to ask haha.

Amazing how negative some people get on here about a poster that’s positive about SMFC...

None of that answers my question. We did hire Goodwin, do you think we should have forced him to sign players he didn’t think were good enough?
Gus role (assuming it hasn’t changed since OK Q&A) is to source & scout potential signings that will then go through a process to determine their viability & value add to the squad. Not to go over the managers head in signing players.
That process now seems to be producing fruit of the rumours are to be believed. Would it be good if it could have been done earlier? Yes. Was that possible? Unknown.

You’d have signed players that JG didn’t want thinking they weren’t good enough?

Cooke was first choice striker in the play offs against Dundee United plus Erhahon was a regular for most of last season. MacPherson started a number of games last season as well.
The 7 that Baz listed, plus Erhahon and Andreu should have been good enough to beat Albion Rovers.... even with a weak bench!
I think it was a reasonable assumption to make that we should qualify from the group without the need to rush making signings!

If you're talking about accountability at the level a CEO/ Chairman for example has over his company fine, we know that's a thing. If you're talking about who's to blame for not beating fecking Albion Rovers & East Kilbride players it's the professional footballers on the park & the coaching staff that have prepared them.
If we think of the conversation that potentially could have happened when Goodwin joined. "Do we have enough to beat the low level teams in our group allowing us to take some time in recruitment or do we need to panic buy poorer quality players because better ones aren't available?" It invites two points:
If you were GLS or Gus & Goodwin's answer to this was 'the current team is good enough to beat L2/ Lowland league sides' would you believe him?
If you were Goodwin, would you have thought the squad you inherited was good enough to beat said teams?
For me it's yes & yes. What's the chances though that someone anti GLS/ Gus will jump on this situation as a way to talk down GLS/ Gus and not give any accountability to professional footballers. ...

Yep, one full window to judge Gus job - January a success.
GLS - took over a struggling Championship squad, recorded profit every year since his appointment, second year SP football incoming, BTB miles ahead of schedule.
Many other ways in which he has been a success since coming in as well, undeniable.
Got to feel sorry for the very small minority of fans that are only happy when things are going bad for the club.
Still they have the league cup campaign to moan about. amazingly some still try to blame GLS & Gus for our professional footballers failing to beat L2 & Lowland league opposition.

This ^^^
LPM hypocrite to the end. Absolutely anything he can say negative about GLS he's like a dog with a bone, doesn't apply the same logic to the clubs undoubted recent success.
It's going to be a depressing day in the LPM household when this BTB deal completes and Gordon Scott goes down as the man that delivers St Mirren Football Club to the people that care about it the most, the fans. 😁

That makes no sense. In three years you’re expecting players to not only join the academy but have progressed through the academy & feature in the first team squad?
We have several young players that have started playing/ on the cusp of breaking through in the last three/ four seasons. Not least of all Cammy, Kyle & Ethan. Of course they were there before DL left, that’s how youth progression works.
We wont know the success of AM recruitment of young players for a good few seasons yet. All we can ask is a continuation of 1 or 2 youth graduates a season making the grade.

I hope he’s staying clear of social media all together.
‘We haven’t signed enough players booooo’
‘What? How dare we sign yet another midfielder booooo’
because we’re pure drowning in quality midfielders like.
