It’s one win and we shouldn’t get carried away but great to get the win and boost confidence. This is a hard league to be in for clubs such as us and there will be many more setbacks this season but for now good to be celebrating a win on a Saturday night [emoji481][emoji106]

Let's hope it snows like f**k and the game is postponed.
One less game this side of the break would be a bonus.

    A Wee Motivational Story
Once upon a time we were shite.
On the 18 September 2016 Alex Rae got the blame and was told to feck off. St Mirren continued on a downward spiral and the forums were split on the new guy as the team plummeted towards the third tier of Scottish Football for the first time in their History. The future looked bleaker than a day out with the seventh Cavalry at the Little Big Horn. Our scalp was claimed every week and Comparisons between Jack Ross and General Custer were arguable. From week 5 to week 30 of that season we were ensconced in the automatic relegation spot.
Somehow, somewhere something changed into what was a magnificent season that magically unfolded in fairy tale proportions as the Great Escape became etched in the annuls of St Mirren History.
One of my main memories of that season was a little ditty the W7 crew had been chanting which became synonymous with our championship win. “We’re on our way,” was certainly looking like being on our way to oblivion but it wasn’t until one day in the Pie queue at Palmerston when I heard them signing that we were on our way to the Premiership and I laughed like Feck.
How we were going to get there, I certainly didn’t know and while they didn’t care, the chances of it happening any time soon looked remoter than Shull becoming a Full blooded, died in the wool old firm fan. There was fecking no chance.
But the W7 mob had a goal. They knew where they wanted to be and thankfully JR had the same idea. The stupid fecking, nonsensical song being sung at a time when St Mirren looked to be disappearing into Football Oblivion became the St Mirren Championship winning anthem.
Many of the Corporate motivation theorist actually teach that getting to where you want to be is not about how you get there but that the identification of what you want to achieve is the only thing that is important and the logistics are something we shouldn’t care about so the W7 lads and lasses where right up there with Modern Motivational thinking.
Does anyone know a song about avoiding relegation and going on to win the Premiership and the Champions league?
If Oran, the team, W7 and the rest of us can Unite in a song, we’ll be on our way.

Indeed. I've been impressed with some things about OK's management but constantly allowing Ryan Edwards on the pitch makes me question not only his managerial ability but his sanity as well.
I thought Willock could do something, but evidently not.
Some of these guys in the squad now aren't going to make it at any level of football.
Still, transfer window is nearly here. The signs are that big changes are coming. And we aren't even bottom never mind cut adrift. Things could honestly be a lot worse given the ability of the squad assembled.

Never said we do, jut generally the way things go. Clubs similar sizes have similar strategies.
These roles do add value, whether you can see it or not.  football has moved on in the last 50 years.
nice wee bit of fishing with the Sammy comment. Looking forward to him rightly going into our HOF due to his great service to SMFC.

I'd agree if it was a big immobile forward coming on but not in the case of Smith and Mullen as both provide plenty of energy in the final third and feel this was the correct thing to do. It meant we had an effective outball and forced Hearts not to commit everyone forward in the closing stages.
Hammill going off for another midfielder and sticking to one up front would have seen Hearts commit another player forward and it would have been backs to the wall stuff in the closing quarter. At the point where Hammill came off, our game plan was working well, so like for like with fresh legs rather than inviting extra waves of attack was definitely the correct call for me.

As you will see from Gordon Scott's quotes the primary problem they are trying to solve here is that of recruitment. GS mentions Stubbs "having to rely on other people" to know if players are good enough - something that clearly went wrong and lead to the change of manager.  I had actually just posted this on another thread, we need to make sure we are not left vulnerable by managerial changes again and end up with these terrible Craig / Rae / Stubbs transfer windows.
I'd imagine therefore the primary brief would be to build a network of contacts across the UK and Ireland and a database of players that we realistically could make a move for once we have a position to fill or once we see them as a sound investment.  I would also imagine as this is a full time paid position there would be an expectation for players aged between 16 and 23 to be scouted who we could generate transfer fees from, i.e the TD role pays for itself over time.
Possibly it also includes video analysis work and monitoring our normal opponents as well. There is so much information available now that it is too big a task for one person to manage themselves.
I think these are both areas we need to invest in and as the role requires someone who will stick with it long term Gus could be a very good shout indeed.

That international break was murder. After a week in far off lands on the Pizza, Pasta and Peronis thank feck it's pie, Bovril and tennents today.

Any kind of Saints result will do. Hope Rogers keeps a clean sheet and I can go back East tonight with bragging rights over my Jambo mates.

    See you all there.

Never seen any chat at all from you about not believing in a record until it was against someone you clearly have some sort of dislike for.
    Hee haw...
Point blank save against ICT  Two great saves against QOS  Great save against Dunfermline  Great save against Brechin  And that's only from memory/ quick check of most match reports.
As for talking about doing it when at the bottom of leagues. We've had sides that have been on better and worse form in the past, won leagues comfortably,  none of the goalkeepers did better than Sammy at home.  Must really stick in your throat being wrong about him.

I think the sore bit about Sammy leaving is that he was a Saints favourite. It didn't really work for him elsewhere but it worked in Paisley. We liked him when others didn't. He was one of us  That's why it's a shame he left when we still need him. Having said that, we all move on and I wish the big guy all the best.

Would just like to add something not about Sammy. The abuse Paul McGowan got on Saturday when he came on as a sub for Dundee from a former Saints employee for one was disgusting.. Guys is a Saints LEGEND. Man of the match in the 2013 final. I was ashamed to hear what was being shouted. It was so bad I wouldn't even repeat it on here.

He's trying to use the best of the dross Stubbs left him the best way he can. I think when he gets some of his own players in things will get better. I'm right behind the gaffer. I don't think your and a few others petty jibes are doing anybody any good. Give him a chance. Coys

The one thing that remains abundantly clear is that Allan Stubbs blew our budget signing a lot of shite! At least we have plenty of time to work on identifying players for the January sales!
Ferdinand and Jackson have added to the team, that's the one area where Kearney has given me confidence so far.

Anton Ferdinand looks more of a captain than McGinn at the moment. I believe McGinn lost a bit of respect in the dressing room for publicly slating a few of his team mates

What's happened to Sam Jamieson ? Came on as a sub against Hibs and looked decent , and then not to be seen again.
Far too many currently taking a wage for doing very little on the pitch.

Absolutely atrocious tonight once again.  I don't think any player gets pass marks to be honest, collectively they were all dreadful. I appreciate that Oran has taken over a team that severely lacks quality at this level, but tactically we are all over the place. Every time we get the ball in an even remotely attacking area there is a look on all the players faces like 'what do we do now?' We have absolutely no idea what we are doing going forward, and at the back, well that speaks for itself. Every single time we have a goal kick, free kick or a ball played out from the back it is being played long up to Jackson who, if i'm not mistaken, is our smallest player on the park. Can the players and manager not see that this guy has not and is not going to win any headers from long balls, yet continuously time and time, game after game that seems to be our only tactic going forward. I genuinely wonder and would like to know what we do all week during training, cause game after game absolutely nothing changes, the players still look clueless, we are completely devoid of any tactics, and despite that we know that come Saturday they are gonna play the exact same way as we did tonight as we did against St Johnstone and Aberdeen and Hamilton and...etc.

We have to back Kearney. The difference between him and Stubbs is that apart from the naff signings he quite clearly lost the dressing room, how that happened...who knows.  OK is clearly  better in the man management and communication department. We need to allow the guy to build a team and hopefully see some improvement.

Main Stand apparently. Not been to the ground for years but will be there tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. It's one of my boys birthday and all he wants to do is go the the match - I must have done something right.

Be four of us there and really looking forward to it, and surely seeing a much better performance than Pittodrie a few weeks ago (the only other game we've been to)

You do have half a point, working away from home can be difficult and not everybody can handle it, but plenty do, and have done for years.
Trying to turn it into some lack of care by the club is, well, enough said.
