Bud the Baker
England slide to 73/4 this morning - come on ye sun! Potentially another 77.5 overs left so if the weather holds out NZ will get a second new ball. *************** Cook just gone for 56 - 4 wickets left (one more to the tail) still another 52 overs left. BaldyOzBud
Well that's cook just gone, Butler still in with Ali, 149 for 6 an hour after lunch... Kiwi's well on top

BaldyOzBud
206 for 8 at tea, and the new ball due in a few overs, looks like the Kiwi's will level the series.
TopCat
England 206-8. The middle order completely collapsed, Bell 1, Root 0. Kane Williamson running riot with the ball, 3 for 15 from 7 overs. He's not just an excellent batsman it would seem. Been quite a humiliating day for England and they're on course to lose a home test match by over 200 runs... Embarrassing stuff. Aussies will be delighted and looking forward to the ashes.
shull
Kiwis scoosh it by 199 runs. 1-1 in Sets.
TopCat
That will do it, a tremendous result for the Kiwis and humiliation for England. NZ win by 199 runs. No deciding test which is a bit of a shame, NZ are a fantastic test side to watch and this should have been a 3 match series.
FTOF
Day three's lesson in batting combined with an excellent bowling session today, in particular, led to a sound thrashing. I really like NZ's style of play. makes for really exciting (for cricket) matches. If the MCC don't sort out their inability to remove the tailenders and shore up their mid order batting, the Aussie's will have a field day. They need a decent spin bowler too. You can get 13-2 Australia 4-0 or 8-1 for 5 - 0. There's bound to be a rained off draw in there somewhere, so might go for the 4 - 0. NZ are not a big TV draw whereas when India come to England it's a five test series even though India are notoriously uncompetitive on English soil. Bud the Baker
West Indies (minus Chanderpaul) currently playing Australia in Dominica (one of the Windward Isles). Day 1 close Windies 148 Australia 85/3 It'll be interesting to compare and contrast this series (two Tests) with England's in April as a precursor to The Ashes. *************** Day 2 Close Windies 148 & 25/2 Australia 318 Innings victory seems the most likely result. madmitch
NZ declare @ 454/8 having scored 116 runs in 16 overs this morning. England to face 4/5 overs before lunch - aggressive play by NZ which deserves applause! PS where are those halycyon batsmen of yesteryear Boycott & Tavare vs Wright & Edgar - anyone for nostalgia? Watching Boycott play test cricket was a more effective soporific than Mogadon!

Bud the Baker
Don't ask me why. Still dunno. Because it was a two Innings per side match and the bulk of it was lost to rain including all of Day 1 so each team completed one Innings only. They captain's could have agreed to forfeit an Innings each in order to produce a result, games like that which are destined to be a draw just about as soon as the weather's claimed the first day are a bit soul-destroying. Bud the Baker
Are you saying that the game was pointless as it was decided it was a draw before it started? It wasn't decided and of course there was always the possibility of getting a sticky dog but it was always by far the most likely outcome without forfeiting the two Innings.
