Ayrshire Saints
Just back from Prestwick. Cracking 2 days and great to see it back after 22 years. Were any other BWA members there and if so what did you think ?
Callum Gilhooley
Yep. Was there yesterday . A great day out , fantastic turnout ,aided by great weather. Pity bout the BBMF no show but these things happen. As ever the Vulcan was the star of the show. I never tire of seeing it. Hopefully the show will be a permanent fixture on the show calendar & go from strength to strength.
Ayrshire Saints
The BBMF were all there today fantastic sight and yes the Vulcan departed at 540 today and brought the show to an end what a beast she is a marvel of aviation even now and the start up approx 50 meters from the crowd was a thrilling spectacle. Aviation porn of the highest order.

Were any other BWA members there and if so what did you think ? I thought it was a travesty of the kind of show we got 22yrs ago . What no Red Arrows ? When the BBF did get Airbourne , there were no low fly pasts . To high and far away. . The static display was poor too , there was a massive queue just to hear a guy tell you about the Vulcan. . I blame the referee, very poor. .

Some of the aircraft were cleared down to 100 feet. How feckin low do you want them ? . An airfield display will always be better than a seaside freebie with the regulations on out of Airfield displays. As for the Arrows ? Yes it would have been nice but as they had already been booked to appear in Switzerland what do you suggest ? It will get better with each years experience. The work to get that show back off the ground today has been immense. A mere tenner today with kids free and a full free flying display on Saturday was amazing. Hopefully the show will re-establish and grow from here.
Ayrshire Saints
I was fortunate to see the Canadian Lanc during a trip to Hamilton air base in Canada 2004. At least ive seen both unfortunately not together. Had a camera disaster today but got a few on my phone inc a pic of both Lancs airborne. Will try to upload a few later in the week although they are phone grade. Not trying tonight after a bottle of red and the Scotland game. Every time you see the BBMF and the Vulcan you wonder if it will be the last. Fingers crossed it wasn't.

saintnextlifetime
Battle of Britain memorial flight. Usually a Hurricane, Spitfire & a Lancaster Bomber. Never saw the Hurricane at all . Saw the Spitfire , twice , each time it was at 500ft plus and away from the airfield . Granted , the Lancasters did pass over the airfield below 200ft , however due to the area we were all pinned into , poor viewing . That's my personal opinion . Did I feel it was good value for money ? Naw. .

farmer john
the 2 Lancasters passed right over here on their way to, and back from, Port Rush. A very impressive sight and sound.
shull
Which makes me think, why would anybody have to pay for an Air Show ?
billyg
If Ryanair, as rumoured , pull the plug on Prestwick after the referendum vote , no matter the outcome , then it's unlikely that Prestwick will have an airport moving forward, never mind a show ! charlie
was fortunate enough to see the spitfire when I was working on East Kilbride - what a sight and sound, nothing else sounds like that, what apiece of engineering - superb. Annoyed I missed the Airshow

Ayrshire Saints
I can understand some folk being disappointed in the static display if you are not a real enthusiast - it wasn't perfect but it has to start somewhere. The huge difficulty is that Prestwick is an operational commercial airport (there were 7 landings during the time I was there plus nemerous private light aircraft manouvers). Yes the spectating wasn't great with the high fences but all that was moved for the Vulcan departure later on but you can understand why the high fences were there. My biggest gripe was lack of information over the tannoy. Occasional announcements but there were aircraft in flight appearing without prior announcement which is poor. Hopefully it will grow into something like it was back in the day (ageee compared to it's hey day it was a shaddow of the show it was) but that sort of event cost mega bucks which would mean mega ticket pricing and to get it off the ground I think they did the right thing in small scale with a free display away from the airfield and relatively cheap admission on the Sunday (it was better value than £20 to watch the current Saints performances).
