habbiesaint reacted to Tommy in Great Saint Fans
Thanks to the great Saints fans like ourselves that followed us from B and Q Paisley. We had left the cushion from my wife wheelchair on the roof of the car and they followed us along the M8 to highlight the issue, Thanks guys much appreciated, Sorry about the score but you have restored our faith in the ethos of Paisley buddies and human nature in general, A big thanks from mutual buddies and a beer is there when possible

Thought it was a bit light for a square go.
Have to laugh, abuse a player who suggests, privately, you say it to his face then come running on here.

Another good performance from him today. A good section of our support - not just the discredited StuD - left looking silly. A few weeks back there were quite a few on here wanting him dropped...
He will play at a better level than us. In my opinion he is better than McLean and McGinn were at his age, I think he will go on to have a better career than either of them. 14 goals from midfield in a season is an absolutely ridiculous record, whoever you are and whatever level you're playing.
We just need to appreciate him for the limited time we will have him. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets taken to England in the summer. That game today may well be the last time a lot of us see him wear the stripes in Paisley.

FT 3-1
Yeah we were the better team and thought we deserved to win the game.
Morton had a little spell before and after their goal, but as soon as that second went in for us they were never coming back again. In players like Mallan (14 goals from midfield now this season) we have that but extra they simply don't have.
Got to feel for the Ton fans, you really do. They've really tried in these four games against our worst team in a generation this season. But as a football club, they just don't have what it takes to beat us. You'll never beat St Mirren was the song at the end of the game... And will they? Who can say, they certainly won't get a better chance than they've had this season.
If we beat Dumbarton next week we will probably finish above them too, can't see them getting more than 1 point from their last 2 games.
What a difference Rae has made. We go into the close season full of optimism, it's now up to him to build a team over the summer to get us back up the top end of this league. And I think he will.

Morgan's been great since he came on. So refreshing to see a winger actually take a man on after a season of watching the likes of Gallagher and Howieson all season.

Never mind midfielders, since our millenium championship season when Yards and Basher hit 19 + 16 respectively, only four players of any position have scored more than 13 in a single campaign.
David Cameron, 19, in 2002/03
John Sutton, 17, in 05/06
Michael Higdon 14 in 10/11
Then Thommo with 16 in the three consecutive seasons.

A lot of eggy faces on this thread tonight.
Mallan grabs a brace and it's 13 (thirteen) goals from midfield in his debut full season. And there's 3 games to go!
No midfielder has scored as many goals from midfield from us in a single campaign in my memory anyway. Anyone confirm who the last was?
What a record, what a player.

I didn't think you'd crumble this quickly when challenged, to be honest. I'll be gentler next time...
EDIT: I won't really...

Let's just look at their prospective output at the club:
McGinn, 2014/15 - 33 games, 0 goals, 1 assist
2013/14 - 38 games, 3 goals, 4 assists
2012/13 - 27 games, 1 goal, 2 assist
McLean 2014/15 - 29 games, 7 goals, 1 assists
2013/14 - 34 games, 7 goals, 6 assists
2012/13 - 33 games, 6 goals, 3 assists
2011/12 - 33 games, 4 goals, 0 assists
Mallan 2014/15 - 36 games, 11 goals, 5 assist (Championship)
2014/15 - 25 games, 4 goals, 5 assists (Premiership)
Last season, Mallan was - in the Premiership, after making his debut in mid October - involved in the same number of goals as McLean and McGinn combined.
At the age Mallan is now, McLean got 4 goals, 0 assists in 33 games, in a higher league, but also with better players around him. Mallan is expected to be the main man in this team having only just turned 20.
At the age Mallan is now, McGinn got 1 goal and 2 assists in 27 games, in a higher league, but with better players around him.
To say that Mallan hasn't reached the levels of the other two is nonsensical. Mallan's output stands alongside that of McLean, and far outweighs McGinn's, albeit McGinn is a different type of player - still a midfielder.
Let's appreciate a real talent while he's here, cos he won't be here too much longer if we don't get our finger out and get out of this league. I'd say summer 2017 he'll be away, and some will finally start to realise what a talent we had.
EDIT: To be clear, the games are total games for the season, league and cups.

Does it matter what Stu says/thinks?
I'm astonished anyone takes what he posts on board let alone let it run and run.

The chat about mallan on here by some is ridiculous, a return of 12 goals from 54 games with one of those an utter worldy from a lad just turned 20 in the last week is a pretty decent ratio. The lad imo has something special about him, not scared of a tackle, has a decent range of passing with either foot and can take a decent dead ball. I'm still not convinced he's a centre mid, I'd like to see him playing a more advanced roll and being able to have more an effect on games. I've no doubt he will go on to bigger and better things in the future and even a few caps with the seniors.

Not to worry... once Mallan has moved on for a pittance after a barrage of abuse from his own "supporters" about how ineffectual he was for Saints... starts to shine in a team built around him where the supporters support and appreciate him... and gets a cap for Scotland... we can look back fondly and say that his treatment at Saints helped to develop him.
Not like that has ever happened before right enough!
