You're right. There is scope for political groups to be involved in football. To boost the interest and think seriously about grad-roots involvement. However, a political party/group should never own a football club.
They are a transient group and the people who are there today will not be in 5 years time. What happens if the council leader hates football or is more interested in, oh I don't I know, making the High Street more attractive to retailers or is a m*rton/C*ltic/yeolder*ngers fan and has no interest in diverting council money to keep the club afloat during tough times?

This whole thing - the SPL, Newco, Sky, St Mirren, 10,000hrs... it's a f**king mess. It's a circle jerk where nobody wants to touch each other so we're all standing round with f**king stoners, treading water and waiting for something to happen.

10,000Hrs: can't progress with purchase if it votes yes to Newco, cos fans will pull out; can't progress with purchase if it votes no, because there might not be enough tv cash

As Sid says, it's a f**king shambles. I personally think we need a progressive business model for St Mirren that can function in Division One, with no Sky money and no SPL money. We should treat anything else as a bonus. That way, we have a base line for the future and the club is secure and in the hands of the fans. As much as I love St.Mirren I can barely watch football now. I have actually been quite enjoying the Euros this time around but I really find it tough to watch the circus down in England these days and I have barely any interest left in whats going on in Scotland now either, the Rangers nonsense has just about culled my enthusiasm for the sport up here. The authorities up here have given out loads of the wrong signals as far as I am concerned and it is clear who our game has been getting run. We have been taken for mugs.
