Bazza as manager with Boab (FTP) Malcolm as his assistant, plus our new strip.
A combination to raise a thousand blood pressures.

I imagine Callum Davidson is being groomed as the next St Johnstone manager. We would do worse than follow their line of thought when appointing a manager; Stuart Cosgrove on Off the Ball outlined their criteria a while back, something like:
    - Young, hungry ambitious individual looking to do well then move on to bigger and better things
    - Experience of playing at the top level ideally in Scotland and England
    - Loads of contacts as a result of the above point
Derek McInnes, Owen Coyle, Steve Lomas and Tommy Wright all fit the above as does Callum Davidson. McInnes, Coyle and Lomas all earned St Johnstone compensation when leaving too.
As an outsider I'd throw in Ian Cathro. He started coaching youngsters in Dundee as part of a business he set up on his own; Craig Levein was very impressed and gave him a role overseeing Dundee United's youth set up (credited with developing Armstrong, Gauld and others). He then moved on to a similar role with the SFA before being offered a first team coach role with Rio Ave in Portugal by a guy he met while doing his coaching badges at Largs.
He moved to Portual, learnt Portuguese and ended with Rio Ave qualifying for Europe after having their most successful season ever. Rio Ave are the Scottish equivalent of maybe Hamilton Accies with crowds of about 1500. I doubt many Scottish coaches could move abroad, learn the language and be a success.
This guy seems to have excelled in every role he's had despite never having played football professionally and has complained in the past of the clique that meant he doubted he would get a chance of becoming a manager in Scotland.
It would be a risk but I think worth asking if he was interested. It would certainly be more imaginative than some of the contenders.

Neil Lennon spent time on the coaching staff before taking over.... No matter how long it was, he had more experience than Thommo.
Personally, i wouldn't mine Murray or Ferguson. Certainly will be going back whoever the manager is. You support the team no matter what.
Man United fans were disheartened with moyes since xmas.. still 75000 fans every week.
Newcastle hate pardew, still have 50.000 fans every week. 3rd highest attendance in England.
Support the team No matter what.
St Mirren till you die is something that should be true. Not throwing the toys out the pram because you dont like the manager

Disappointed for Danny and in the way the club have handled this. It's been messy since that SG interview on Wednesday night: poor PR for us and I think DL could have been treated better.
Two 8th place finishes sandwiching a national cup win has not been and will not be bettered by many St Mirren managers.
My abiding memory of Danny will be his reaction to Newton's goal at Hampden. He turned round to the stands to watch the fans celebrate and just take in. When he knew we were going to win it the fans were first in his thoughts.
A genuine guy who made mistakes but who always tried to put out a team who played good football with homegrown talent in it. Not to forget as well the way he acted as an ambassador for the club, visiting primary schools and so on. The story about the wee girl and the lucky penny that Danny rubbed during the Celtic game....

Cheers Danny. All the best for the future.

Big_Mougie reacted to madball in How Would You Vote At The Board Meeting On Danny's New Contract?
I'd want to bring him before the board, before they discuss his future, to hear what his view on the targets for next season were, what his learnings from this season were, what he expects from the club in terms of squad size, his plans for youth development i.e. who is ready to step up, who he would want retained.
Probably loads more I'd like answered. Basically I'd like the board to treat it like a cross between interview and performance appraisal. Once that's done I'd be in a better position to make a decision.
For me at this moment in time I find it difficult to identify another candidate that isn't a big gamble or would jar with the board's approach.

I'm always amazed by comments such as this.
The club spends all of its income every season. There is never anything left over.
What exactly do you mean by 'proper funding' if the club is already spending every single bit of income it receives?

Folk only seem happy when theyre moaning! Had gilmour not commented the other night fans would have accused him of keeping them in the dark, which weve seen them say through out the season! Fickle isnt the word for it!
Still enrages me when people attack the decisions our board make. They went out on a limb to get the club where it is today and have always done what they thought was right for st mirren, just a shame they dont have the crystal ball some think they do.
Just need to look at the circus that is the sevco board, f**king conmen duping the fans into thinking they are rangers through and through when in fact they are vultures tearing out what they can to line their pockets!

Taking whether he stays or goes out of the equation the answer to your question is surely yes? We've finished higher in the league than anytime in the last 20 years ( and still have a chance to do so again come Saturday) and have won a major domestic honour. Add to that we've played some nice stuff at times. So, yeah we are further forward. Question is, could we have gone further with what talent has been at his disposal?

Hellooooo? Hello St Mirren BoD? Anyone there? Anyone there and still giving much of a fcuk?

Thistle fan posted an interesting table on PNB. If the results for all teams go the way they did in the first round of fixtures (We win at Partick and home to Ross Co, lose at Killie, and draw at home to Hibs and Hearts) then the final table will look like this:
    Killie 42
    Saints 39
    Hibs 38
    County 37
    Thistle 35
    Hearts 18
Doesn't look too unrealistic to me, and I'd certainly take that. I think 37 points would do it, and we have 31 just now. Beat Hibs a week Saturday and win at Firhill 6 days later and we're safe.

Serious question Bily, who do you reckon we could realistically expect to come in (and I'm not trying to absolve the BoD or manager of responsibility for presiding over a bit of a shambles, here)?
The likes of Adam Rooney is commanding a wage of £2.5K a week, or £10K a month! He is no world beater, but is miles out of our range.

In the interest of fairness and consistency I do hope Mr Lunny has a copy of the St Johnstone Hearts game and is going through the goal mouth scuffles carefully...even in the edit there's 2 or 3 yellow or red card offences in that crowd of fighting players. Doubt we'll hear anything though.

Thinking Jim Goodwin should be contacting his players union representative , and raise the issue of the BBC being selective in how they edit their highlights in such a way that it will be detrimental to him when his current contract is up . Also think he should ask his players union rep to look at the last two games footage and see how little protection Jim Goodwin is getting , and how other players seem to getting away with more .
