I have nothing but respect for Hearts as a club. I have very good friends who bleed maroon blood. I like Hearts. I am good friends with someone who played 12 years at Tynecastle and have been awed by how this former player in his 80s has been treated by them. I truly like Hearts.
But.... ...
as a St mirren fan I have seen us rot in the lower league for years because we serviced debt rather than speculated.
We were relegated after one season in the spl because we would not spend what we didn't have.
We lost out captain to Rangers for higher wages than we would pay.
We lost our keeper to Dunfermline as they paid him a higher wage.
We lost a left back and a keeper to Killie for higher wages (note the clubs and who is next).
We wanted to sign Craig Beattie... he was interested in signing till Hearts offered higher wages... he joined Hearts and helped them win a cup.
Can Gary understand why it might be hard to empathise with hearts current situation when we have all seen it coming for years and other clubs, like Saints, have suffered for living within our means?

It is simple. Not signing players at this time means we do not have to pay out more in wages for players to laze around during the summer months. Secondly, there will be a lot of players looking for clubs between now and when we begin the friendlies and we will have our full quota sorted out by then. No point in rushing at this time to only find out that someone better is available for the same terms of contract. Patience if a virtue so they say and I am confident that Danny and Tommy have their irons well in the fire. As for those other clubs, outwith Celtic, none of them are earth shattering and/or worrying.

I don't really think that Sutton would be that great a signing. Was a good player for us but I don't see why we always look at former players to come back to us. Rather have a player in the mold of Isma playing off Thompson than Sutton.

An article in today's PDE states that Danny has verbally agreed a deal with two keepers, but wont name them until next monday and the contracts have been signed.

Of course it all depends on how he sees his options, however fwiw (!) I reckon he would indeed take a pay as you play , especially given his recent playing non history. Nowt to lose , lots to gain in professional kudos and aherm, shop window exposure so to speak

He's 18 years old. That is no longer childhood.
If he is a serious contender for having a really good future as a footballing star he should already be knocking on the door of the 1st team.
The fact that he isn't speaks volumes. So yes - because he isn't challenging for the 1st team despite being 18 he's underachieving.
....and despite this he still thinks he's worth more than £100 a week?
The boy needs to take a look at himself before his career disappears as fast as the 99% of all footballers who simply don't make the grade.
All over the world there are boys of 15 and 16 who are already established 1st team players. These players are hungrier, more driven and work harder than Jack and are successful as a result.
Hamilton and Falkirk have a history of producing them in this country alone and now Livingston are doing it.
Jack the lad however is barely even warming his arse on the bench despite being a full 2-3 years older.
In other sports, kids in swimming and a range of other sports dominate medal tables between the ages of 14 and 18 competing with fully grown adults.
FFS Andy Murray was beating some of the best players in the world at the age of 17.
We've got to stop making excuses for people that age who are not challenging already.
