That is going back a bit oakster. .
The party that most protests and petitions in more recent times, was the Socialist Workers Party - if protests worked we'd be living under their standards. .emoji4.png

The Poll Tax was a bit more recent I suppose.

The protests against poverty in Africa a decade ago had some impact as well.

That would hurt Mexican firms far more than American consumers by opening the door to cheaper competitors
Mexico will not win this battle with him.

It will hurt the wall fund even more but the point was "How can adding an import tax to be paid by US consumers and used to build a wall mean Mexico is paying for the wall?"

Last week we heard about a large percentage of our kids not getting fed properly and also how doctors can drug our kids without parental consent , I'd much rather see protests about that than the ones against a president from a far off land who was freely elected . .

:spud5Sorry to move back onto Trump but as some of us predicted his nominee for the vacant spot on the Supreme Court would be right wing and going by reports this has been confirmed his pick Neil Gorusch is a right winger with conservative social views, Unlike Obama Trump will have the time to get his nominee through, and with anther two of the SC judges being in their 80's their might be a coupla more vacancies within the term of Trump's presidency which if he stays consistent could leave the US SC with a conservative majority for a coupla decades. :spud5

Aye, but the vast majority of Americans are so stupid that they won't realise it.

Not that it'll work anyway - if the price of Mexican imports go up then folk will buy other brands and the tax take will go down. Then Mexico will impose a similar tax on US goods which will mean the profits, and tax paid on those profits, by US companies will go down. It will have a similar effect in Mexico. It will just all result in both countries buying more "home made" stuff which will balance out employment/profits/tax lost due to declining exports.

And the US will have to pay to build the wall.

Vast majority of the human race are stupid, least this time they are talking about a wall not a trench...........

Anyone that thinks World leaders are stupid is stupid.................

Trump is just being Trump , this is his new stage and as brash as he is, personally I find it quite refreshing for a world leader to tell everyone what he thinks, and what he is going to do .....

If he had shot Kennedy he would have tweeted it by now .............

What Trump says and what actually happens will be miles apart...................... He is not stupid, just knows how to play people

I read on line someone saying they were surprised that Saudi, Pakistan and Afghanistan weren't on the list until they realised that he (his family now) have business interest there.

Now i don't know if that's true, just that it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Not sure but I think the key point may be the red countries are lawless places run mainly by warlords. I hope to Feck Europe has safeguards in place which stop people crossing our borders direct from these places.

I'm sure the USA (and UK for that matter) has intervened in all the countries highlighted in red, contributing to why people are seeking refuge.

Spot on but just because we are part of the problem doesn't mean we should drop our drawers, bend over and let everyone in.

That's a wee bit dramatic - no one's suggesting UK takes them all.
Most refugees don't wish to permanently stay in any country but their own.

Fine let the US have them all. My point wasn't that refugees should be kept out. It's that if a country can't control its own borders then other countries have to step up their game. I'm talking about National security not humanitarian ideals.

  • 2 months later...

US sanctioned strikes today against the Assad regime's air base where suspected of being the launchpad for chemical attacks on civilians. World reactions pretty much as you'd expect, probably what is most worrying is Russia's condemnation of the US, obviously they still regard Syria or what remains of it as being one of their countries. Two alpha males beating their chests - let's hope there are cooler heads behind closed doors trying to calm things down.

On the home front it looks like Trump's going to get his Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch through Congress.

*************

Look's like the Donald's Presidency is gonna be a controversial as his campaign.
