That's where we should be concerned and paying attention to proper medical experts rather than Ayrshire or FS. 13 hours ago, faraway saint said: The elderly and people with weakened immune systems die every year with the flu. Why are you mentioning kids, apart from adding to the hysteria? 11 hours ago, oaksoft said: Don't lump me in with the hysterics brigade. Equally, I won't be lumped me in with the "it's only flu" brigade either. I have already said what information is important when things like this happen and to my knowledge, no credible source has completed conclusive research into exactly what we are looking at here. We've got way too many people jumping in with "facts" and that includes some GPs who apparently have overnight, miraclulously developed world leading skills in the spread of brand new flu viruses. I am only prepared to listen to actual experts on this, chief medical officers and specialist, experienced research groups etc. We'll find out soon enough. 11 hours ago, faraway saint said: Nice attempt at deflection...................................kids? 11 hours ago, oaksoft said: Which expert did I ignore? 11 hours ago, faraway saint said: Kids? 11 hours ago, oaksoft said: I asked you which expert I had ignored on another thread. And in response, you said........"kids". Riiiiiiight! To help with your apparent amnesia I've taken you WAY back to where you brought KIDS into the equation. Kids, or the young, are NOT in the group that are at danger from this virus or flu. On the "expert" issue, the word "expert" is widely used, quite often wrongly but I'd suggest a doctor is in a better place to comment than you. He is brave enough to speak out at the over reaction going on in many cases about this outbreak. If you choose not to believe him that's your prerogative. Also I've read and listened to many peoples views and made my own mind up that, while this is a virus that can kill people it's not the "killer" many are making out and the extreme measures are unnecessary in many cases.
St.Ricky
I have to say that listening to medical professionals seems the sensible thing to do. Their advice is evolving as more information becomes available. As to vulnerable groups it looks like the elderly and those with present or underlying chronic conditions and their carers are likely to be prioroties. Kids too are often included. I don't know if all or many did but I received a text from the NHS saying that had I travelled to a known area of infection then I should self isolate, should not go to the GP surgery but should phone them of NHS 24 for advice.

Ayrshire Saints
I make no claim whatsoever to be a medical expert. Just pointed out that whilst acknowledging the virus I am not changing my normal routines and there is definite hysteria being media driven trying to whip the nation into a frenzy of panic. That's the problem with 24hr news channels. Too much time and too little news. You are correct about this but the problem is that being correct in this instance is irrelevant because you cannot control people migrating or gathering in public. For example, I work from home and to my eternal happiness I rarely venture outside where other people are. BUT in about 5 minutes I'm about to go for my weekly food shopping. Not only will the shop be full of unhygenic people (let's not call them scum or vermin ) but every bit of food has been handled probably multiple times from whatever country it was produced in until it arrives on the shelf swimming in every bug you can imagine. Then I have the cashier handling my food and money, or the plague infested touchscreen for card payments to worry about and the trolley itself of course. In short, there's little point personally worrying about catching the virus because it's entirely out of your control no matter how much you try to isolate yourself from the rest of the population. In that sense, Ayrshire Saint and Faraway are both right to an extent - just live your life - maybe just avoid travelling to Wuhan or Iran or Italy for now. You just hope it dies out before it spreads to the elderly, kids, those on chemotherapy with weakened immune systems for example. That's where we should be concerned and paying attention to proper medical experts rather than Ayrshire or FS. The bigger worry is that cunts are now gambling on the problem, causing share prices to crash - 14% in a week FFS. Still as long as the dividends are still good..........

So by "expert" you meant some person who goes by the name of MD. You assume it's a qualified doctor and you assume they have expertise in vitology and the spread of new strains of flu viruses. You then assume that it's OK for you to have a view on all this because you've read the Beano and Hello magazine but it's not OK for me to form my own views. Riiiiight.

That's why I am listening to what chief medical officers and researchers are saying. GPs are not even a great source of trustworthy information yet. They are not experts in this type of thing. Two of them are on this forum. One of them claims you can cure covid-19 with orange juice and peach slices and the other claims that kids get cancer because we don't pray to god enough. Still, the sheer volume of crazies in the USA is a weird anomaly.
faraway saint
Talk of bringing retired NHS workers back to deal with the flu. Isn't this the group who are most at risk?
