Aberdeen just now would be a poor move for McGrath. They are a shambles of a club at the moment, leaking millions with many of the squad out of contract. Their inexperienced manager has a major rebuilding job for next season. Hardly a place to push on from.
Jamie should sign an extension with us with a buy out clause and wait for a Championship club to come calling offering him and us megabucks.

Based on some people's view on whether JDH should be allowed to play again this season, I am beginning to wonder if we should change our contracting policy.  We should tell prospective signings that they will only play or be paid for as long as they have 6 months left on their contract.  That should clarify things for them.
We got sold a bluff by Alex Dyer when he started mothing that he wouldn't play Brophy again after signing for us, in my view in full knowledge that he was month's away from fitness anyway.  Saints were daft enough to buy that and handed over a fee as well as taking on the wages of someone with only a few minutes playing time in them.

An absolute red line for me in football, I hope (and trust) St Mirren will vote with the seemingly clear fan opinion around Colts and get the proposal in the bin.

Like he told many others. 'Lost the dressing room' in Spain before a ball was kicked when he told most of the team that had won the Championship to find new Clubs.  Some had to go but to tell most of the squad to go before even watching them, having replacements lined up  or seeing if he could improve them was a managerial disaster which Stubbs was brilliant at.

We didn't lose the game yesterday on the park; we lost it on the drawing board.
I find it hard to believe that our manager failed abysmally to recognise the limitation of Ernhanon, MacPherson and Mason's ability to confront the strength of the Livi side especially the current form of these players.  I'm not blaming the players.
The substitutions made in the second half was symptomatic of the realisation that the manager had made a huge mistake.
I think the biggest impact of this result and the way it was lost will be on the morale of the players.  Those subs who came on will feel they should have been chosen for the kick-off and for most of the other players seeing that mistake, their morale will have also taken a hit while looking at the whole picture.  Our latest signing, Brophy; what will he be thinking after being subbed and who never received the service he should have got.  His morale too will have weakened.
I laid in bed last night thinking about all of this and I still find it difficult to come to terms with it.
Given all the enthusiastic effort those fans made in decorating the town with our colours I feel truly sorry.
Come Wednesday if we get beat this will underline Goodwin's failure yesterday.  We are more than capable of beating Utd but not before their morale has been re-inflated.

There were a number of really disappointing aspects of today's performance.
    1. The tactics were wrong from the start, i.e. the team put on the park was wrong
    2. The team gave away cheap fouls which played into the strengths of Livingston. They pumped balls into the box and looked for the chaos.
    3. It took the management team far too long to see that their selection wasn't working.
    4. There were players on the park especially in the first half, who shouldn't have been near the Hampden turf.
    5. If you compare that team with the team that played Celtic in 2013, there was no comparison.  We deserved to lose to Livi if you especially look at the first half. Fractionally better in the 2nd half, but no cutting edge and long balls all day long, which suited their tall defenders.
If the players believed that perhaps this was their one chance to appear and win a final at Hampden, then they didn't show it.
    Really, really disappointed 😞 😥

Six weeks ago we attacked teams from the start and played a pressing game when we lost the ball. We won most second balls. That got us success. Today we start with two left backs when we had a good left winger on the bench and sit back with Ethan and Cammy sitting in from of the back four leaving acres of space in front and the forwards isolated. Why Jim?

Goodwin to blame for that. What has Ilkay to do to get a start? Mason never kicked a ball and should have been off at half time. And Ethan and Cammy were sitting too deep. First half was a shambles.

It would be wrong to over react after today. The performance was extremely poor and very simelar to the loss in Perth at the end of August. I think it’s clear that whilst Erwin might be good in the box he does not have the mobility that is required to lead the line effectively. Obika is a much more difficult opponent and his fast feet and trickery always have defenders on their toes. What I don’t understand is that today our main goal scorer was left on the bench and afforded a mere six minutes of play. It’s unbelievable that Jim felt he didn’t need to add some movement to the attack and bring on someone who at times is capable of holding the ball up. Granted he isn’t brilliant at it but he wins fouls and he can do this role. Our midfield too is another area that we need to look at. McGrath apart the rest seem quite content to pass the pass side ways and back the way whilst never really hurting the opposition. We were passive in both our previous outings at Kilmarnock and last week at home to Motherwell. Doyle Hayes is a class operator but he needs to have people willing to run and take us up the park.
Too often lately our play has been predictable and far too slow. we haven’t been able to get Connolly on the ball and isolate the full back that will allow him the opportunity to create for us. Get him in behind like he did in the cup win against Rangers. Durmus too can offer width and whilst he is hot and cold he does deliver good balls at times and with Brophy in the box I’d think he will be recalled. The point being though that we don’t seem to want to play offensive at times and today we played a side that hadn’t won in 10 matches yet they’re unlikely to get an easier game all season. So where are we now?
There is no doubt that on our day we are competing in most games. The defensive side has been good and our goalie is having a great season. We do have players who can create but too often the final ball is poor or the team is set up far too cautiously. If we look at next week’s opponents Livingston have went on a tremendous run since they lost to us on November 21st. They are a team that are t bogged down with history . They don’t go into games worrying about the opposition in the way that we do. I don’t know about you but I have been feeling nervous in each of our previous three games because I haven’t seen a team that’s aggressive or in the oppositions faces - I’ve seen a team standing off and looking devoid of the creative spark that they held for a few weeks prior to Christmas . Livingston just go at teams they have no fear they have players that are at it every single week and a side that has went from being relegation candidates to top five in the blink of an eye. They are enjoying a run of form that somehow we can only dream of. These other teams seem able to go on winning runs or have seasons when they are consistently winning games against teams of a similar stature. We haven’t did this for many years and I can’t remember us ever having brilliant runs since we played in the newly formed SPL / SPFL premiership. The manager has been backed in the market and now he needs to find a way of challenging those other teams all battling to break free from the almost inevitable relegation fight.  A few weeks ago it looked like we might finally have that consistency but it’s not on the same level as what Livingston have achieved.

Theyll be favourites alright next week and quite rightly so. Can Jim put out a team capable of being as aggressive and offensive as they will. Can we match them and the belief they will have ? I hope so and it would be foolish to rule us out but what is clear is that we will need to be at our very best to  make the final. How often do you play in a semi final ? Not often and we need to make sure it doesn’t pass us bye this time.

    Hi all- Huddersfield fan here.
Where to start with Collin, he was a big cult hero for us but hasn't played a great deal in the last 2 full seasons- had a hip injury that kept him out most of last season and our formation couldn't really accommodate him in the season before that. He's not particularly like any player I've ever seen, the closest I could get is Danny Welbeck in that they're both so ungainly and clumsy on the ball, but manage to confuse defenders enough for it to be effective.
Despite being 6 foot 3 he's not a target man at all, one of the worst headers of the ball I've seen, and while he puts himself about he's very gangly and not as strong as someone of his size should be. He can go from the sublime to ridiculous while on the ball, but his vision and use of space can be absolutely top class (although it was very overlooked by our fans). Actually topped our assists chart in our first season in the Premier League, and was surprisingly effective as a winger that year. If you play him up front though he can lead the line on his own fine as he's a very hard working player.
I'd expect him to take a while to get up to speed, and I have some reservations about whether he'll ever reach the same standard as a few years ago- in his few appearances towards the end of last season he wasn't as mobile as before. But I can guarantee he'll give his all and will be a great person to have in the dressing room, everyone here adored him- fans and teammates alike.
I hope you enjoy having him as much as we did and I'll be looking out for your results- I noticed another ex player of ours is your manager as well. Good luck for the rest of the season!

St Mirren reserves have a decent forward line but reckon we have more in midfield and defence. An Away win for the big team.
