More than that Cammy has been a smashing player for us.Stubbs just destroyed his confidence in a short period. For those he say he can’t play in the top league well he managed to play almost eighty times in the Premier for the Dons. Will be very sorry to see him go if that is the case.

So far so good. NB train NOT cancelled and I am on my way.

The wind is strong in the East. Hope its blowing a gale at killie. If our defence holds out and the big man blows one into the back of their net in the 89th min I may turn to religion but I've no doubt I'll be back on the bevy by 5.

Hammill will surely be off? He wants to be closer to his family and if his agent can’t get him a gig down South off the back of his highlight reel up here then he needs a new agent.

I’m torn on Anton. He’s clearly talented and seems to be a great influence on the younger defenders around him but his lack of mobility is concerning.

Lyness should get a deal offered to him right now and we let Rogers go back to Aberdeen.

Whilst I never speak negatively about st.mirren I never would ,or fellow fans either ,i think this topic has left me laughing to myself.cringe is the correct word for the bulk of this.I wonder what Jim Clunie or Ricky Macfarlane used during the most successful time in our history.I also think that footballers drive there selves on (our own Scotland captain being an example). I think the motivation for any footballer should be to be respected by his football peers and an honest performance ethic for the supporters he represents young and old ,rich and poor, because everyone that gives his time and money to follow st.mirren deserves that.As for motivating ideas at work, nonsense,I have worked all over the world and I am at present in Kazakhstan,my motivation was fear of being unemployed and feed my family motivation enough, same for our team.

There are probably plenty of half decent players we could attract. Not because we are St Mirren nor because we are struggling would put them off. But because these would be guys who want to showcase what they have in order to get regular football. For example Morgan, Allan, and Johnstone at Celtic. All fringe players out of the first team squad. They need game time and a platform to show their worth. We may not get these players but there are decent players out there who could do a job for us (and themselves like Adam Hammill).  Jack done it 2 years ago so it is possible.

There have been many decent posts written here, and oaksoft has eloquently raised the correct rational that should be adopted by us.But this should also been the mantra of every club in the world. We have the cautionary tales of how financial problems ruined teams for long spells after they chased success. Many in England,Leeds being a standout,in Italy Parma in Scotland Rangers all had vast amounts of generated money misspent. Then we have the prudent teams like many in our lower divisions which don’t move up leagues or have cup runs. They sustain themselves with no other remit than provide senior football for their respective local community.
Football business is like no other business as we all know there is no formula to base the growth on (we sold X last year so we know we will get that and try to reach Y this year). It is too fluid to determine. We might have three U16s right now that might bring in £3m in years to come it’s an unknown quantity.
I would like to think we have always been one of Scotland’s bigger sides so with this comes the dilemma for each of our chairmen how much to spend to achieve what we deem as success a difficult job I really wish I had the equation for them but that is very elusiveI only ask that they match the financial commitment every st.mirren fan gives each year no more no less COYS

We also had the McGinn prize money too circa £900,000 and Hamilton lost £1,000,000 in a scam, did they not? Think only Motherwell, in the bottom half made money from a significant Transfer in the last year too.
Dundee are hawked up to their eyeballs with the current squad - so they have some job to do releasing players to get in more... (I think worse so than us)

Well argued Bud and in the main I agree.
However, I place more emphasis on the behaviour of Jack Ross post Championship win and it's impact on events. His dating dances with Ipswich and then Sunderland all but left the board powerless and our transfer activity dead in the water for weeks.
I would also stress  that I believe that players should never be allowed to undermine a manager publically. That way lies anarchy.
Finally, recent moves by the board to bring in a technical director and JN as a coach or Assistant Manager will help in the medium to longer term.
Dealing with those who remain from the "gang of four " will come to pass when fit. I would expect them to be shown the door. Their only possible redemption will  be to play out of their skins for OK.

If it helps I was working in Auxerre in France the last week and got a ticket last night for PSG v Napoli before I flew home to sunny Thurso today, anyways this year champions league and europa league games are allowed alcohol in France ,to be honest the Paris fans are a bit arrogant and aggressive but nobody seemed too bad but then again their culture doesn’t dictate 10 pints on a night out [emoji106]

I think there is a place for it, you will have people that are enjoying the social occasion of going to a game and will take maybe one or two drinks in a stadium. The hard core football fan will baulk at the stadiums pricing and do his pre drinking at a local pub as normal, personally I use the 2 hrs around seeing st.mirren as respite before drinking loads later

Absolutely no reason to change anything. 40 years worth of fans, and 2 new generations, have managed just fine without a drink for 90 minutes.
