But why show Danny the door, only to give the gig to Tommy Craig? They've shared the managerial responsiblity for what, 3 years? It makes no sense to me, unless Danny took a shite in someone's pumpkin lantern.

Mixed feelings about this. Its probably the right decision in as far as he has had four year with us but the league form has been insipid to say the least and at time catastrophic. We have drifted in the league far too much and we all know about how the bulk of the signings have been. The summer when we brought Thomson and co in was fantastic and we did look like kicking on in the league that year, but stuttered as ever. The cup win was fantastic obviously. And he definitely was a good guy and took the time to connect with as many of the punterdom and the wider community. Four years is quite a while in football these days and the board gave him a good go at it and allowed him to see out his contract, which is entirely fair. He leaves with most folks best wishes.
The big thing now is how we reboot the club. We need to get this right and there's no guarantee we will even have the relative success of staying in the league that Lennon and his predecessor has given us. Nearly a decade in the top flight and the best we have managed has been 8th and not without our struggles to do it. Id have hoped the with that length of time in the top flight we might have made more of a go at making top half but it has never looked on really and we have rarely managed a season without some worries about relegation. You can accept ups and downs, but in league terms we really haven't had anything other than "meh" really. Probably right enough to move on and see if someone else can kick the club up the table a bit. It might not work out, but its worth a go.

There could also be some measure of end of season "who gives a crap" from the players....
They'd won a BIG Cup, relegation was easily avoidable, many of them were certain to be moving to fresh fields and pastures new.
Not only DL would have found it hard to motivate such a squad.
I am tempted to cut the manager some slack when I consider he had to rebuild from the Cup winning squad - not just the team. Since Bosman, it's hard for a team like Saints to offer long contracts, to cash in on good players and plan for season on season. Change is now more constant.
You may now get a similar laziness/lethargy hitting this squad, now that its security is established.
I know I've lost dosh on Brentford for inexplicable reasons since they won promotion recently....

Pretty much the same thing happened after our cup win too. We sort of coasted it in to the end of the season, results were crap, performances were insipid and the same thing happened this season when it looked like we had hauled ourselves into the comfort zone. This is maybe down to the players metality as sportsmen and the pressure can bring that extra edge to a players game (or destroy them), who knows. A lot can be down to how the manager can motivate a side but not all of it. I dont doubt the players as pros, they wont want to lose matches but when something is viewed as a bit meh and outine then you never know. Mayve in this run in they have simply self motivated and galvanised themselves to haul themselves out of bother. Maybe the manager has laid in on thick. We will never really know.
Thats probably something only those really close to things will truly know, we just see what falls out the dressing room on matchday for 90minutes.

Its a difficult one. He certainly made an arse of the squad in the summer. Then there was the Lee Mair stuff. BUT under severe pressure he has delivered and he has done this more than once now. He has the inclination to fanny around with the team too much which may lead to some of th inconsistencies. He stuck with his new signings for too long at the start of the season when it was obvious the bulk of them were poor BUT he then changed it. His first season went this way a bit and there have been issues in most of our league seasons under him. Has he learned from these things? Dunno. Has he delivered what he was asked? Probably, and of course he is one of our rare cup winning managers. The football his teams play when its working tends to be good to watch, and horrible when its not working
I have to admit I havent got a clue what I would do. Like a lot of folk Id tend to hang on to him now and hope he doesnt make the same mistakes again when squad rebuilding. And I like him too, he seems like a really decent chap who gives a shit about the job he is doing. We might do better in the league with a new manager, but thats never certain. One thing that is for certain is that the decision either way needs to be done swiftly as there is a lot that has to be done in the summer.

Great result today , enjoyed some aspects today and absolutely hated some in equal measure.
Flying and it's all so good, then bam ! Jim Goodwin, oh well, fwiw I am annoyed at Thomson as his reaction as it helped with the easy red being waved. I hate that Cnut Thomson who was dishing out the dirt very early but got no pull for his nastiness. Anyway JIm let himself down as he was reckless. I think we should appeal the red, we'll get it because imo, the anti Goodwin lobbyists really are just an embarrassment now. That was never a red on review.
Anyway, I thought we were pretty professional today, it's back to back wins and afaiac that is a sign of progress. If we do the magic three in a row, well, that's my confirmation that the team are proving the doubters and I would gladly celebrate that as a ST Mirren milestone, three victories on the spin , wow, when did that last happen ?
Anyway, on topic, loving the Hibs seethe, loving the Adams Ross county meltdown , loving the KIllie arse collapse.
It's turning well for us, just bring on the luvvies next Friday. What a great place to go out and celebrate three wins on the spin, the clays West End. Oh the irony..... magic, well done DL, take a pat on the back.
    Now, let's uncork another !!!

Great comeback today, hats off to the Thommohawk for doing what he has done countless times before and delivering the goods. As others have said I thought Kenneth McLean was different class - the knobends on Sportscene have been bigging up Vigurs and Ainsworth of late but McLean was the best player on the pitch by some way. I wonder if they'll talk him up?
Still, we're not out of the woods yet, but we've found a compass and someone has told us what direction to walk in...

Didn't sleep at all. I was staying up to watch the cricket but it was a washout so I watched re runs of the semi final. I watched it three times back to back.. The kids got up at six so I made them breakfast, had some of my own. Went for a run to clear the head. Went to the shop to get stuff for their packed lunches for school.
12.30 met up with the guys I was going to the match with and we drove up to Glasgow. Went into some random pub I dont even remember the name of. Watch the tail end of the Dundee derby, cheered the equaliser because we are St.Mirren fans and we understand that pessimism works best., a bus load of Hearts fans came in and we had a good laugh with them all. Bought a round or two, chatted football, did my best not to wind them up about Albert Kidd (had to curb my natural instincts there) a bit of backslapping and good luck wishes all round and we headed off to the ground.
Got in five minutes before kick off, stayed down in the pie bit and had a coffee then went up for the handshakes and random razzamatazz that I hate.
    3.00pm Watched us start badly
approx.3.10pm watched in horror as the dream looked as if it was in tatters. Bad start allied to a Hearts goal = f**ked day out
3.33pm Felt better after Thompson and Teale set up Isma for a tap in. From that point on the day got better.
Second half was nice apart from the last ten minutes or so. That was almost bowel emptying. I still just felt it wasnt going to be their day, they just didn't look like they had it in them for some reason?
Enjoyed the celebrations in the ground. Walked back to the car in silence with mates.
Walked around for half an hour trying to remember where we had left the car.
Found it after realising we had actually walked past it twice already...
    ....then its a blur.

Harkins problem was that he was playing at a level where the opposition had players every bit as good, and in most cases better than he was. Thats why he never really cut the mustard. The level he was attempting to dominate was decent and certainly more than a match for his abilities. He has talent, and there would have been games where he would have done very well but too many where he just wouldn't contribute and we know we need guys that will help muck in.
    Good luck to him elsewhere.

I liked Div Barron. He was as hard as f**k, he was aggressive, he tackled like a proper footballer and his opponents shat it from him. He was also deceptively fast, probably our quickest defender actually. He wasn't a good passer so that counts against you in todays game but he was a good defender and hopefully he goes on to get a decent gig somewhere.
