First post, although I've been a regular follower of the forum for years. You can tell by the hour of this post that I've been out on the town(St Andrews, since I moved from Paisley 24 years ago), so apologies if I'm bletherin' nonsense. My dad(like his dad) took me to Love Street regularly since 1979 and I have inflicted St Mirren on my own son(partly his choice) over the past 3 or 4 years, instead of taking him to Tannadice with his two Arab nephews. That's another topic of conversation, supporting local teams etc,,,,
We are at yet another turning point in the St Mirren saga/history and the Board have a difficult scenario to address. The decision of whether Tommy Craig is the right man to lead our club is not a difficult one....he clearly isn't and the BOD are wise enough to realise this. As has been stated on countless occasions on this forum, no one apart from the BOD will know why Tommy was gifted a 2 year contract(the cheap option doesn't explain the 2 year aspect???)
Gilmour and the rest of the Board are supporters, like us, and want the best for St Mirren, the difference being that although the pain cuts very deep and it is worrying and depressing to us, I haven't had sleepless nights over our predicament. I think the BOD have, and realise their monumental cockup with Craig's appointment. I am not an expert on our finances, but know that sacking Tommy is going to hurt our club (and possibly the BOD personally) financially, when they rightly sack him in the next few days. They made a mistake and we are where we are.
When Danny(Saints legend) left us, I thought it was the right decision as a new direction was required, but Tommy Craig was the most uninspiring appointment possible and that is without hindsight. The BOD will have to live with this cheap and narrow-minded decision, even after they hand over the reigns to whoever. This is yet another low point as a Saints fan, but we've been here many times.
My inebriated point this morning is that we all make mistakes and the BOD have made a massive one this season. We need to trust them to attempt to fix their mistake and bring in another manager that can build belief amongst the current squad and bring in 3 or 4 players in January, in key positions through the spine of the team. Surely they realise that the longer Tommy is in charge, the further we will sink, so they need to act after yesterday!!

Totally agree with you, the biggest losers here are the fans who put there hard earned money in, no matter what happens the players and manager still get the vastly overpaid wages that they are contracted for,

Quite apart from the players recovery time and the distance involved there is absolutely no thought for the fans who without them there is no professional football. On one hand you, and I quote, called some people 'whinging bastards', and have banged on about the damage (5k) being done by people who chose not to go yesterday. Then on the other hand, you say that people are perfectly entitled not to go, as long as they then don't complain about the manager or directors?I'm confused. Staying away is surely really damaging for the club whether it is done by a forum whinging bastard, someone who never uses the forum, any fan at all is surely doing the same damage by witholding their eighteen quid through choice.
Something wasn't right about giving a proven managerial failure a 2 year deal when previous managers were only given 1 year rolling deals. Something wasn't right about appointing a proven managerial failure who was a major part of Danny's tenure, but only Danny himself was deemed ready for the exit door. Something wasn't right about not interviewing any external candidates. It would cost money to relieve Tommy Craig of his duties, but the amount it would cost is entirely down to the BoD giving him a 2 year deal in the first place. Changing manager is of course no guarantee of turning our situation around, but that is the case when every club changes manager. It is always, always, a risk. However, there are certain cases - Mowbray at Celtic, Di Canio at Sunderland.... Tommy Craig at St Mirren, where it is clear a change IS required. We are facing a situation whereby finishing second bottom will see a playoff against Rangers (The) or Hearts. Fail to get through that, and you'll be in 'Div 1' with Hibs, and a handful of 'perennial lower league' type clubs who already have proved they can handle us - clubs like QoTS in the past for example. The best we could hope for IMHO, is to become like Falkirk maybe - stuck mid-table in the second tier. Having seen Rangers (The) demolish Killie today, I would fear for us at either Tynecastle or Ibrox - and we are already shite at home.
Frankly, while it would cost money to bag our proven managerial failure, what is the likely cost of relegation, especially with three big clubs in the division below? Add in loss of gate receipts - especially diddy team visiting numbers as well as home numbers, hospitality, advertising, commercial....
Can the BoD afford NOT to act? Mind you, they want out, so is this driving the inactivity at our club? With his record, let's say if it had been eight or so years ago, Tommy Craig's arse wouldn't have hit Greenhill Road on the way out of our club.

Listen I hold my hands up , that extra comment perhaps was too much, was heat of the moment stuff and I was annoyed , but one things for sure if my performance was bad the managers was cringe worthy
