A wee thing not mentioned much was the Green Vermin fans who were voting Yes only because the other side were voting No , I know a few Serco fans that were in the Yes camp from the outset.

Amongst many bizarre posts on my Facebook wall was one claiming - hopefully tongue in cheek - that UEFA were involved in a conspiracy fixing up an away game for Celtic to affect the Yes vote

I have a question there is a screen shot on Facebook of a lady breaking the seal of a ballot box she takes the lid off then reaches in and lifts out a neatly banded and stacked pile of voting slips now if that box was supposedly sealed from the start of the day how the hell did they get like that because any other boxes I saw getting emptied were poured over the tables to be sorted.Would love to hear if anyone has an explanation for it there's also one of a lady taking a pile off yes votes and putting them in with the no votes .

Couple of hours in to this fantastic era of new powers.

Ohh dear who'd have thought....and 64% support this guy

Never mind we'll have the new power to tax people again on top of the UK tax to fill the shortfall for funding our NHS..... free tuition....free prescriptions. Just don't get ill or want your kids educated and you'll be fine.

Is this yet another Yes conspiracy theory?

I am only disappointed that we passed up a great chance to ditch the UK charabanc as it heads inevitably for the buffers

i understood all the fears of no voters about future uncertainty in independence-however we now have a factionising UK that has few options in reducing it's indebtedness and which still believes that we offer ourselves as an option in the area of world security with leased nuclear weapons and a reducing fighting force. That is the more serious uncertainty that threatens future generations. The rather weak extra powers will be taken in exchange for a still weaker voice in the UK. I think, by default, we have given the westminster elite more than they could have hoped for- a federal UK where guys in westminster get to act like players and the rest of us get to argue over council tax.

I can only hope that my hunches are wrong, and

  • gordon brown is telling the truth for once and not just seeking to re-establish himself in UK politics
  • Scotland actually gets a commission looking only at Scottish powers and we don't end up being <10% of a fudged-up body looking at Fed-UK
  • The UK stays in Europe

Disappointed also that noodles like cameron & Hammond get to impose their ill-conceived world view on nations repeatedly fecked over by UK & USA by virtue of them representing the UK. i think, in times to come, those are the issues that people will use to judge this as a missed opportunity.

I'm sure you're correct, but I doubt this really impacted such a comprehensive margin in the result However, the good people of Aberdeenshire, the Orkneys, the Shetlands and Borders etc - I doubt they conform to this OF subsetting of how we vote. We must accept the popularity of the 'no' vote is not characterised by the Old Firm divide and instead concentrate on the real reasons why Scotland prefers the Union.

The No Campaign won fair and square,no need to look for underhand excuses.

"we can still rise now and be a ......region of the UK with more devolved powers if the present Government manage to push that past the increasingly protesting other 400 odd MP's.......again

...that fought and died for.....blimey fought and died for eh and all I had to do was put a cross in the box da da dee dahh dah dah dah

...and sent him homeward.........sniggering all over his face knowing he had duped the stupid people of Scotland again ! "

Not quite as catchy...I hope when they get their fat arses up off their free corporate seating that the words stick in the b*st*rds throats.

What surprised me and celtic fans that I know, was the amount who were voting no. Especially the 'international socialists' among them who didn't think what was on offer went far enough.

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I was close to voting yes at one point but there was never enough to convince me change would be of any real benefit, short or long term.

Likewise I was close to voting No but my heart ruled my head. Disappointed in the result proud of Scotland and the way we went about the debate. We have a lot to be proud of today.

I still think that we've missed a huge opportunity, however the No campaign had some really good points that in the end won the argument. That's the beauty of democracy. Sad that I won't live to see an independent Scotland.

I look forward to the early retirement of Mr Alex Smugness.

He may have been a committed nationalist from his early career but his performance in the last two years has been woefully short of gravitas, humility and manners.

At last the West Lothian question will be aired properly and that will test how the UK will react to the future. Interesting that a Scottish Referendum has managed to bring that issue to the fore.

Ahh, at least the debate has not killed the good old scottish cringe. anyone with confidence and a vision for us all is written off as smug if they are scottish, but get votes if they sport another accent.

As for the WL question, one commentator said today that the the answer to that question is to ignore it. if you want these issues carefully explored then i say be careful for what you wish. Having already bared your lubed-up hind quarters to westminster, do you really think it wise to neck a few rohypnol and spray on some perfume?

Have you even seen it its not a picture all I'm asking for is someone to explain it.

I've not seen it Elvis. What I have seen is a picture of yes votes sitting on a "no" table in Dundee. Yes Dundee quickly discounted the conspiracy in that one by saying they were unsorted and uncounted ballot papers. I've also seen a video clip of a single gentleman sitting at his desk writing on a piece of paper which was supposed to prove that a no voter was amending a blank ballot paper. Of course in that one we've actually got no idea if he was amending ballot papers or writing a birds phone number.

Alex Salmond will go down in our nations history as one of our best politicians. He stood up for what he believed and for Scotland, unlike you and I he will never be forgotten. He deserves respect.
