Reliable Garages

Hi all.

I'm looking for a garage to take my car to. Preferably in Paisley. It's needing a service, does anybody have a good garage they can recommend?

It's hard to find a garage I can trust these days.

Paisley VW centre at the bottom of the chain road. Used Jim for years, very reliable.

I'd echo Jim at JR Volkswagen too. Taken my cars there for the last 10 years or so, never had any issue with quality of work and always felt he was genuine and only suggested what was required. He obviously specialises in VWs but did work on my ex's Mazda and Renault in the past too

Speak to Duane at Glasgow Turbos, in one of the units in Woodville Industrial Estate behind Ibrox. He's a mate and has been servicing my car and getting it through MOTs for about 5 years and is honest about any problems and solutions and fair with his prices... an old style mechanic who knows about all makes of car and doesn't just read results off a computer test. As well as making and fitting turbos they do a lot of servicing for taxi's. Only downside is if they are busy they just have 2 mechanics and 1 ramp.

He also helped us when he got Trading Standards involved over the VW Polo my wife bought from Arnold Clark and was able to verify the car hadn't been serviced in years and they had offered to let my wife test drive it in the rain with 2 bald tyres... result Arnold Clark caved in and did a complete service and all outstanding repairs free of charge.

Thanks for the replies, looks like there is a decent amount to choose from after all.

Tempted to go to the VW garage seeing as its a Seat Ibiza I have and its al VW parts used on them.

Seat Ibiza I have and my wife has a Polo and Duane has no probs getting parts for either car... good to see plenty of options available.

What type of car is it?

Germany cars, Owen Ferrie. Anything else, Hendrie Graham.

Yeah good to have a few options! Cheers for the recommendation.

Seat Ibiza so German, cheers!

Think no matter where I go this is going to cost me. Got the car in August, its a 54 plate, cost me £600 but had 12 months MOT on it. Looked at the service book and thought it had last been serviced in 2013 but when I read it again thats when the next one was due. It was last serviced late 2012 and was still only 10k miles ago but obviously stuff like rust and corrosion sets in.

Could be a costly one. Effin road tax is up at the end of the month too.

My Seat Ibiza is from 2001 and its a special edition and one of the main problems I had was wanting to put a CD player in, since the radio cassette only worked intermittently. The garage I bought it from said it would be no problem to install a CD player, but because the stereo and climate control stuff is all in one big unit, and because it was an old car and rare edition it was hard and expensive to try and find second hand units with CD option, plugging a CD player in via an adapter in the tape unit didn't work and it was going to cost £500 to get VW to fit a new stereo and climate control fittings which would fit in the space left by the old unit. In the end Duane was able to fit an old CD unit under the unit and wire it in to the existing unit. Job done and I think he charged about £30 for his time or something like that.

When I took mine to Duane for its first service since I bought the car he reckoned mine hadn't been serviced for a few years and reckoned the spark plugs were the originals. The only problem I've had with MOT tests is the emissions were high and I've now got a newer 2nd hand catalytic converter in. He also has friends in some of the nearby tyre fitters and has managed to get my tyres from them discounted and also told me about blackcircles.com
