We Desperately Need New Players!

McLean wasn't a first team regular starter till he was in his early 20's. He was a boo boy favourite before then.

He made his debut at 18, part way through the season and featured in half the games that season. He seemed to pick up injuries close to the January window ruling him out at a busy time in the season often for 4-6 weeks but in DL's 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons was playing near enough 30 league games a season, meaning from the age of 19 until leaving he was more or less an established starting XI player when he was available to play. The one exception is that he had lost his place in the team during the League Cup run when he was injured and it was hard to get back into a midfield with Newton, Teale, McGinn, McGowan, Goodwin and occasionally Goncalves all playing well.

Suggestions that Rangers were 72 hours from administration over their loan repaid to Mike Ashley: https://johnjamessite.wordpress.com/2016/01/17/72-hours-from-administration/

As much as I would like to see it cant see it happening King is an extremely wealthy individual who plods on pillar to post however when the chips are down he has more than enough to bail them out of trouble.

I'll start a thread in "other football" on Dave King and his reported wealth. What you say about King being an extremely wealthy individual able to bail newco out of trouble is very much the impression given in the mainstream media. The media also painted a similar impression of Sir David Murray (a man who was actually taking millions out of oldco via EBTs rather than putting millions in) and who also spoke of Craig Whyte as having off the radar wealth (in the sense of being a billionaire rather than having so little cash it didn't show up on a wealth radar). The track record is not great when it comes to reporting the wealth of chairmen of oldco and newco. Dave King had a 13 year legal fight with South African tax officials who accused him of over 300 counts of fraud, money laundering, racketeering, tax evasion, and had £30m of assets seized and also then paid out £41m after admitting 41 lesser counts and having the other charges dropped. Lots of his investments were liquidated during his trial as assets were frozen, penalties paid and legal expenses incurred.

When King became newco's chairman he said the club needed £30m invested in the short to medium term to get the club back into the SPL and competing with Celtic again and to repair Ibrox Stadium and that he would be prepared to invest half of that money himself and look to other wealthy Rangers fans to match his investment. He was going to begin by over-investing in the team this year to make sure they won the automatic promotion place back to the SPL... and Rangers began the transfer window by trying to entice Scott Allan away from Hibs but when push came to shove were unwilling / unable to meet Hibs valuation and it fell to Celtic to sign him for a place on their bench! Rangers signed lots of loan deals and free transfers in the summer as they rebuilt the squad. So far there has been no investment in Ibrox stadium and a section of the roof fell off during a game in the autumn. We now know that they have an outstanding bill for £300K to a small wifi provider who claim the system they provided met the club's original specifications and the only reason there was no wifi on matchdays before the AGM was because Virgin Media had lost patience waiting for their own unpaid bill to be settled and stopped providing the service to the club. In a January window where newco are only a few points ahead of Falkirk and Hibs and where Hibs look set to sign Anthony Stokes on loan from Celtic until the end of the season and possibly sign Kevin Thomson from Dundee, so far newco have signed pre-contract deals to allow some Accrington Stanley players to join them for free in the summer. Newco fans expecting King to splash £5m of his own cash and get another £5m in from other investors to give the club a decent transfer war chest and begin repairing Ibrox haven't seen many signs of a £10m investment being made this year. When Ashley's £5m loan was repaid, new loans were taken out to pay back his loan, £6.5m was borrowed to repay £5m.

Under the deal with SARS, what money King has left after his deal to keep him out of jail in South Africa is tied to staying in the country unless the government allow him to invest some of it overseas... in which case he would have to pay them a decent percentage to let him invest his cash overseas and pay tax on it in advance. If he has managed to squirrel some money into offshore funds which SARS don't know about the worst thing he could do is draw attention to himself investing say £5m of his own cash per season at Ibrox to help drag them from the Championship league to the Champions League.

If you read the John James blog website there is a fair amount of speculation that other people may have put up the money to help King buy his shares last year and that he has so far not invested £1 of his own cash since becoming chairman.

Anyway... back to players St Mirren desperately need...
