Yes the backlash is coming the unionist press are ramping up their propaganda ,  Only last week Murray Ross made a stupid statement in Holyrood about cutting the bottom of classroom doors. They then credited Nicola Sturgeon with making the statement

In fairness, she went public with her defence of the absurd notion and repeated it at FMs QT.

Simply from a health and safety view it's dangerous it's a fire and smoke hazard....  Murray Ross was trying to lay a trap it didn't work

It was a stupid suggestion in the first place. Only put forward to avoid paying for mechanical extract systems that they can’t afford. .

Leave the door open would have a more preferable solution to cutting said doors. Irrespective of the stupidity of the argument you don’t get much fresh air from school corridors.

Why is it an absurd notion?  If you want to remove, or dilute, a contaminant in a poorly designed space then you need to increase the flow of air somehow.  Sdding a fan and trimming the doors is a method you can use.  It's not ideal but if filtration units are going to take a long while to be installed then it at least adds some protection in the meantime.

the proposal was to remove a very small margin from the bottom of the door, you couldn't do much more than a few millimetres otherwise you are tipping the balance on fire safety too far.

But don't let the truth get in the way of a chance to judge some experts who have been given a difficult job that has to start NOW

It was put forward in tandem with the extraction units, which are pretty cheap.  The expensive and hard to source long-term solution is to source filtration units, but healthcare has first dibs on those just now.  They will come to schools though.  Just not right away, so interim measures need to  be applied.
