I don't think I've ever seen McLean shirk a tackle or not give 100% when in a Saints shirt. He tries to play football all the time, even when it's not coming off or he's not playing well. Sadly, that's what gets fans on his back and even more sadly it's why some fans will always love a clueless trier over a good footballer.

Post of the week. But, take the tourist route on the way back. You must batter up the A9 because it has the truly breathtaking view of Scottish forestry in all its glory. As you head towards Dunkeld you crest a little summit in the road and you are met with the most amazing view of what Scotland was originally - just trees rising up all the way to the sky it seems. Best viewed in autumn, with the greens, gold and browns. And the bonus is, if you carry on through Pitlochry towards Killiecrankie you have Queens View. Just look and wonder - you can stick the Grand Canyon you know where!!!

OK, inspired by the West Highland Way thread... Get em' in. Not ncessarily the big famous attractions, but even if it's a wee coffee shop that you thought had good home made scones or anything! The shared information on any subject in this forum is normally top drawer from good Buddies. At the very least it could give us some ideas to get in the good books with the missus' by saying 'Mon' and we'll go a wee run to......'
...Culross, Fife. Just turn right over the original Kincardine Bridge and follow the signs. Park in the waterfront car park at the village entrance. Walk along the railway line and go through the swing gate to the old pier. Take your camera for a great photo opp' looking right down the pier as it disappears into the Forth estuary. Go into the village and see the peach coloured 'palace' building with super gardens behind it. There's a really good coffee shop and pottery gift shop nearby, and the Red Lion pub is good too. Walk up the steep cobbled streets to the Abbey for more good photos.
South Queensferry. Simply park up and walk along the front until you get under the Forth Road Bridge. Totally different views of the bridges all the way along.
Bearsden Cross. A square of excellent tearooms, shops and restaurants, with the Roman Bath House ruins only a two minute walk away.
The Wee Blether tea room, past Aberfoyle. Drive through Aberfoyle past the primary school and head for the McDonald Forest Hills Hotel. Twisty road with super scenery to your left on the loch. Drive up the hill to the hotel car park - the hotel gardens are beautiful and there's paths with waterfalls and a pond. I could create the world's greatest Par 3 in those grounds given the chance. Tee off at the hotel hitting down to a green nestled in the trees beside the pond... But anyway.... Walk down to the watersports place opposite hotel and turn right. Walk for 15 mins to the Wee Blether tearoom for home made cakes, sandwiches, burgers, the works. Make sure it's a good weather day and take a camera!
Tourist route to Perth. Don't batter up the A9 all the time. Follow the big brown tourist route signs and cut off to your left instead. Stop in Muthill at another one of my favourite coffee stops. Can't remember the name of it at the moment, it's on the straight bit of road just before leaving the village. Visit the old ruined church.
That'll do for starters. Will try and link to some photos later tonight.

Thanks Frank. I've found the fixture dates on the SPFL website and they are:
    Round 34: Sat 19th April
    Round 35: Sat 26th April
    Round 36: Sat 3rd May
Round 37: Wed 7th May (but we normally play Tuesday)
    Round 38: Sat 10th May
Is too simplistic to go H/A/H/A/H?

I would think that most of them are probably, like me, born and bred in Paisley but adult life has meant a move to the local environs. I haven't lived in Paisley for over thirty years but I've always been about 30 minutes drive away. It never leaves you, you know?

Dundee it has to be said are probably bigger than us. In their last SPL I think their average attendance was over 6,000. Their honours include a league title, a handful of league runner-up places and semi-finals in the European Cup and Fairs Cup. Like a lot of clubs they have fallen foul of over ambitious boards who tried to spend for success, with neither the money nor the brains to back it up. We have been lucky that our board have not been gullible enough to fall into that trap and we should be thankful. The fakes are a well run club which is why they punch above their weight - although it will be interesting to see if their new chairman can emulate his faither, in my view the most successful club chairman of the last 40 years.

Of course McLean is leaving. His motivation must be to maximise the income he can attract from the skills he has to offer - just like the rest of us. Why anyone would think otherwise is beyond belief. He was one of the few on the park on Saturday that seemed to know what he was doing. It didn't always come off but he covered every inch of the park in trying to make it work. He put in a hell of a shift on Saturday and I hope he gets a decent move and a good payday. We can't afford him, sad but true - mind you I hope he gets better than the blue bigots!!

Grainger had a very serious injury before he joined us. To expect him to be back to full match fitness in less than 10 -15 games at SPFL level was asking too much. I thought he might have put in a better show in the second half of the season but its not to be. He needs a run of games and he needs them without constant barracking from fans week in, week out (that's Saints fans for you). If it frees up money then a move is the best for both sides. Good luck to him.

Better than "quite good". Very knowledgeable in a number of sports and loved them all. I can still remember his coverage of the Munich Olympics in 1972 when he stayed behind the mike for hours and provided excellent coverage of the tragedy as it unfolded. He is also famous for his Colemanballs and I had the Private Eye book for years until it fell apart. These included:
"If that had gone in, it would have been a goal."
"The front wheel crosses the finish line, closely followed by the back wheel."
"That's the fastest time ever run, but it's not as fast as the world record."
"I think there is no doubt, she'll probably qualify for the final."
    and my all-time favourite:
"Juantorena held them until the final bend and then he opened his legs and showed the rest of the field his class".
    Just brilliant.
    RIP David.

Er, so far from the facts as reported. The police were called to a serious disturbance by a member of the public. Gowser was apprehended and taken to the Airdrie Police Station where he assaulted the police officers. The reason he pled guilty is that all police stations have a network of cctv cameras in all areas for exactly this reason. He couldn't say they made it all up 'cos they had the video evidence. Oh, and I believe the reason the the charges specifically referred to assault by kicking the officers was he couldn't punch them 'cos he was handcuffed. Daft boy and no excuses!!!

rabuddies got a reaction from chalky1 in Vinyl Lp Players
I got an Ion Audio USB turntable about 4 years ago with the intention to convert all the vinyl that I hadn't got on cd to MP3 or FLAC. After 3 years I had successfully converted side one of Trick of the Tail. Three years ago I got a cassette to MP3 converter and to date I have converted one side of a Hancock's Half Hour. It takes hours to get the quality right.
So, last year I bought a CD Ripper / Streamer, ripped all my CD's then sold them, downloaded as much of my vinyl as I could from the interweb (mostly purchased from sites like Soundike and the sadly missed Legal Sounds), connected it to my home network to stream the music I have on my PC and it all sits nicely in the lounge in a little black box with a network drive beside it for backup. The wife is happy that there's no CD's or Albums cluttering up the lounge and it's so much quicker and easier.
A USB turntable works in real time, so 45 minutes to an hour to convert an album - CD Ripper takes 2 - 4 minutes, depending on the quality you choose. Mind you, I'm not selling my vinyl at any price and I still have turntable with a pre-amp connected to speakers in the home office when I get the need to hear the sound of the 60's they way it's meant to be heard. Hippies rejoice!!!!!!
