    Having taught in both categories of school over a period of 20 years and based on my personal experiences, I can conclude that the findings of the study, with reference to denominational schooling not fostering bigotry or sectarianism, are a crock of shite.

    Steven Thompson remains far too good for us. As he's a fan, he's simply providing us a service. He could get a far better contract elsewhere.

    I spoke to one of the players today and he asked me to put a wee note out to the fans.
    The players appreciate that everyone is feeling frustrated, they are feeling it too. They are absolutely determined to put it right.
    They have asked that everyone gets right behind them from the off tomorrow, whether you appreciate it or not it makes an enormous difference to them.
    I think they all feel a bit on edge based on the conversation I had. We need to do our bit to boost that confidence as much as we can.
    So, if you are going tomorrow, please put on your positive shoes, and give the team every encouragement from the first whistle.
    Hopefully we will see a response.

    I see you are playing the "I'm a better supporter than you are" card, Greig. Aye, some of our so-called supporters are just clowns that travel to Inverness, Dingwall and Dumfries hoping to see us lose. Should we interpret your post as inferring that you would never call on our BoD to sack a manager ? Is there no stage at which you would acknowledge that a change of leadership is required ? Would DL still have your support if we lose our next 3 league games ? What about if we lose our next 6 games ? Or 10 games ? Still back him or call for his head ?

    I actually feel gutted for Danny.
    He's a decent human being, and whether he has run out of ideas/simply isn't up to the job, or hasn't received the backing of the BoD and/or some players, I don't think he deserves our scorn and contempt.
    One of the abiding memories I will have of Danny is when he simply turned and looked at the crowd at Hampden when Newton scored the 3rd goal in the final. I genuinely believe that he was at least as happy to have delivered that win for us as for himself. There is a warmth and regard there that few managers we've had in recent memory have felt towards the supporters - probably since Tony Fitz. And all that despite not having a long-term affinity with the club.
    I feel utterly deflated tonight, but I'm not blaming Danny Lennon. Of course he has to take his share of responsibility, but so do others, some of whom seem untouchable at times.
    Whatever happens, I'll always hold the guy in high regard for delivering the best day of my Saints supporting life. He'll always be a hero for that.
    Its a bloody shame.

    Renfrewbud,
    I belive we have had "Southern Saints" and "London Saints" for a while. But the current London Saints have been around since an Internet plea for the first TV game v Aberdeen. It ended 1 each with Kirk Broadfoot Scoring after gifting Stevie Crawford a goal.
    Since that first day when we had 5 supporters, we have had over 40 different faces through the door. Record night being a Cup Replay in 2012 (i think) v Hearts where the usual corner in the pub we go to was "overrun" with about 29 Saints fans.
    We have a flag, you may have seen this London Underground style Love Street "Station". We have presented a POTY award for the last 4 seasons (although we never presented it this year due to it getting lost in the post!!).
    We get some tourists too, some that have come to london for the weekend and come to watch the game, or business commuters who happen to be here during the week. We also had the sole member of the Peru Supporters club in for one game when he was in London.
    Hope this helps although the numbers involved are small, we are here and we are going strong......

    Cos of this post of yours I had a sleepless night, I have amended my post above to point out that you're NOT a liar.

    I was erroneously quite wrong in my assumption. My logic was flawed.

    Previously I'd enjoyed reading your posts and recognised you as a mature, sensible and interesting poster with a worthwhile perspective on most matters.

    So I stupidly believed that for you to suggest that there is no place in football for free speech, despite the evidence presented by all the other posters about there being political slogans around the park at GHR (you'll have read all them too, of course) and despite the photos of organised political protests by Celtic supporters, had to be attributed to you not having read or understood that evidence.

    Either you'd not read them or you were nowhere near as mature, sensible and intelligent as I had believed

    Obviously my earlier judgement was flawed and so I apologise again.
    You're certainly NOT a liar.
    Bluto, I am flattered by your praise even if it was tinged with a touch of satire!
    It is not lost on me that I should raise a matter of libel in a thread that relates to ‘Free Speech’, however you will be well aware that there is a strong and very clear difference between free speech and words directed at an individual without any basis of fact.
    The only two venues where I think you could get away with calling me a ‘liar’ would be in a court of law and the Houses of Parliament, however if you decide to attack someone (or libel them) without due cause outside of these locations you open up yourself up to the possible consequences. In both cases the words would be spoken as opposed to written and not put in print other than in Hansard.
    Your apology is accepted.

    This game will be live on tv so United will get some cash for that.
    Now Sevco have turned down their ticket allocation United should make it a closed doors game and stick the 2 fingers right back at Sevco. That way there will no gate money heading to Govan.

    ianw reacted to Drew in Possible New Ticketing Initiative
    Hello All
    I'm looking to canvas views in respect of a potential ticketing development that the club is currently considering. This is a longish one, but please bear with me.
    I've exchanged correspondence regarding this with the club's General Manager, Brian Caldwell, and Brian is happy for me to use the forums (here and the OS) to gauge whether there is any mileage in this idea.
    By way of some brief background, I emailed the club over the New Year period asking if there might be an option of a season ticket that is not seat or stand specific. Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting that his replace the current system. Instead, it would offer an additional facility that would afford non ST holders the opportunity to purchase a Smart Card with in-built flexibility to roam around the stadium as desired. The idea occured to me when, having given up my ST a few years ago, I enjoyed the freedom to take in matches from different areas of the ground. In any event, my old ST seat is now taken up by my mate's grandson, so I couldn't get the seat back even if I wanted to (fair enough).
    Despite not having any real urge to buy another seat-speciifc ST, I miss the convenience of rolling up on match day without having to faff about queuing for a ticket, and ensuring I've got cash at the ready (not least in the grim depth of a Scottish winter!). I also think that the club would benefit from supporters who, like me, find that a current ST doesn't really fit the bill, being in a position, nevertheless, to commit funds up front. In return, those who took up the offer of this type of ticket would have the convenience of a ST, and possibly a couple of other fringe benefits (see below).
    Brian was keen to explore options, while being clear that any new system shouldn't be to the detriment of standard ST holder, who could be considered the life-blood of the club. He gets no argument from me, there.
    Between us, we've come up with an option that might offer a way forward:

    on application, non-ST holders would be issued with a smartcard, and they could purchase games online for whatever area of the stadium they wish. The matches would then be loaded onto the card, in much the same way that cup matches are under the current system;
    games could be added to the card on a match-by-match basis, or a number of games could be pre-loaded. One suggestion to make the option of pre-loading matches more attractive, would be to offer a discount - possibly graded on how many matches are loaded onto the card. For example, buy any three matches, save 5%, or if 5 or more are purchased, save 10%. This way, the club can also benefit from some guaranteed advance income (in a similar manner that it does from standard ST sales). Full season standard STs would still represent best value, however;
    matches are purchased online, and an email receipt specifies the match details and the stand for which each purchase(s) applies;
    if and when the club create a supporters bar area in the void of the Main Stand (something that, as you know, is now being seriously considered), all smartcard owners could access this facility;
    standard ST purchases would always take precedence, and the second tier smartcard would be applicable in respect of other available seats.

    The benefits of such a system are pretty clear to me. I could demonstrate my commitment to the club by buying a ST of sorts, and would also enjoy the benefits of not having to queue for a ticket on matchday when the weather is hellish; I might be able to secure a modest discount if I pre-load matches (benefitting the club, in turn); and the club would be offering a more flexible approach to ticket purchase - something that could only be regarded as progress.
    I have to say that Brian has welcomed my ramblings on this matter, and is genuinely keen to explore whether this might be a viable proposal. We're keen to hear whether people think this might be an option they'd consider, or any possible shorcomings/issues with the initial concept as outlined above.
    Please feel free to offer any suggestions or criticisms as you see fit, but i'd be grateful if the thread remained relatively free of spamming as the club will be looking to access it for information and a sense of how people regard the idea.
    Ta much

    I find myself agreeing with the last posts by Sir Dicky of Dickson, and Somner9 - and that isn't something that has happened much over the last three years. Let's see the selling consortium come out and tick suggestions A, B, C, D..... and give us some answers.
    A. They believed in the bid, but after 3 years have lost confidence in REA to make it work.
    B. They never believed in it, but thought they were on for the full 2 million.
    C. They just don't want GLS anywhere near the place.
    D. They now have a better and more attractive offer about to go ahead.
    E. They still believe in the CIC bid, but simply won't accept the offer being made, after a decade or more of service.
    One of these must be somewhere near the truth, no?
    Answers on a postcard to 'Why can't Div win EuroMillions and solve this pish in an instant' competition....
    Edit to add:
    As one of over 1,000 individual St Mirren supporters who backed the CIC bid and was prepared to put my own money into it - I feel that every single one of us at least deserves a full and frank explanation as to why the final offer was rejected. I'm prepared to listen to the incumbent BOD give us a bullshit-free explanation, and the same from the 10000hours side.
