The main issue is that McGinn isn't really needed by Celtic right now, and they can quite easily wait to get him on a free, it'd take an incredible season from him to properly get interest from any English teams that'd be of similar standard and potential wages/bonuses.

I liked McGinn when he was with us, but he didn't strike me as particularly technically gifted, especially compared to Mallan or McLean nor athletic, but he made up for it with loads of dig, that's only going to get you so far. I reckon he'd be lost against the majority of midfielders down south where being physical against them isn't enough to get close to them.

If a manager actually has a means to implement his tactical ideas, and a good range of contacts to attract players then a knowledge of Scottish football isn't all too important.

If anything the refusal or the length of time it takes to embrace new ideas in this country, has limited our football identity.

I wouldn't say the managers that have Scottish experience are what we should be looking for, unless we are ready to back them financially like their prior clubs.

Probably very unlikely. I'll probably be hated for saying it but Billy Reid if Graham Potter does leave Östersunds FK for Swansea, should be in contention.

Excellent level of experience, in the Scottish league, and now abroad so you'd assume decent contacts and a pretty good track record at youth level.

If our board are willing to risk the style of football though, is a different matter.

Otherwise Zedek Zemen get the hipster support onboard and go down in attacking flames.

gc_SMFC reacted to Dibbles old paperboy in Ipswich Town - Permission to Speak with Jack Ross
Didn't Div say a few days ago that the word from north and south of the border was that Jack would become Ipswich manager in the next few days? Since then Ipswich have talked to other candidates and said they might not appoint a new manager until early June, and now Jack has "held talks" with Sunderland, and now today he is being offered his third new improved contract in 12 months. I don't think Jack has done much since signing his latest new improved contract in mid-February to earn a new improved deal - the Championship was pretty much won with 12 games left to play. We were on 54 points at the stage and Livingston 12 games later finished on 62 points... we would have needed to lose pretty much all 12 games to finish 2nd or 3rd.
Jack's record since the last bumper new deal:
    Played 12: Won 6: Drawn 2: Lost 4: For 18: Against 12
Although half of our defeats came after we had secured the title, 2 of our wins were 1-0 victories over a Brechin team who failed to pick up a single point in 2018. If Jack really was a managerial demi-god, surely in at least one of our games against Brechin we could have won comfortably, in a bit of style, with some of his famed attacking free-flowing football. Post Barnsley we had good run of results in March which tied up the title beating Queen of the South away 3-1; thumping Dumbarton 5-0;  beating Dunfermline and also drawing up in Inverness, but there are also a few results which show Jack doesn't walk on water:
Livingston 4 - St Mirren 1 (17th February - 1st game on the 2nd improved contract of the season for JR)
    Dundee United 1 - St Mirren 0
    St Mirren 0 - Livingston 0
    St Mirren 1 - Falkirk 2
    Falkirk 1 - St Mirren 0
3 games in the last 6 where we failed to score.
I wouldn't have been fussed if the board had said to Jack that he was only on a better salary this season because we were in the top league and we wouldn't be tabling a better offer than he was given in mid-February, and let's see if Ipswich or Sunderland really go ahead and appoint Jack Ross. Sunderland's previous manager had managed in the EPL and taken Wales to 8th in FIFA's world ranking and their first major tournament since 1958 and despite having talks with Sunderland and being a favourite for the job the latest news is the new chairman wants to reappoint Chris Coleman: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/may/21/sunderland-takeover-stewart-donald-chris-coleman-return

I'm failing to see the love for Jim Goodwin as a manager so far. He's hardly set the Earth on fire at Alloa in the time he's been there. Yes they could still go up via the playoffs but so did Brechin last year after a slightly better than mediocre season.
I'm not saying he's not a good manager and won't go on to have a good career and it does feel slightly hypocritical given Jack came from Alloa but I'd like us to try something different with our next manager choice. We struck exceptionally lucky and picked very well with Jack who was the standout in the lower leagues at that point. There's no-one in League 1 or 2 right now who strikes me as a real opportunity missed if we don't go for them.

I have no issue with Gordon Scott, any more than I have an issue with Tommy Docherty, the tea ladies or the bloke in the panda suit on a Saturday. The issue I have, is funds ring-fenced to buy shares, being dipped into to help pay for an astroturf pitch, and being replaced with member’s own monies.
Dissect it, talk about it, argue the toss, go around in a circle and come back again, and here’s where you’ll come back to - member’s monies, ring-fenced to buy shares, are being used to part-fund an astroturf pitch.
I happen to find that completely unpalatable. I personally find it very strange that anyone thinks doing something like that is even remotely acceptable, but hey, each to their own.

I’m not bitter. I’m not a member of SMiSA although I, like any supporter, is free to engage in debate on this forum, the primary place for Saints minded folks to do so.
I have however copied and saved the post I made, where I likened this to Barcelona sneaking in a cheeky wee shirt sponsorship to get fans used to it, before simply going full bhoona with it. ‘Never sully our shirts’ no more, Linwood no more, Bathgate no more....
My other Nostradamus-esque plunge into the prediction game saw me predict SMiSA will never take over. The ring-fenced pot will be constantly dipped into now that a precedent has been set. GLS will be the new SG and there will be a role for SMiSA, but they’ll be so far from the driving seat - they’ll be shoved up the back with Rosa Parks. They’ll know their place.
I also think If GLS does become the new SG and the club is doing well, I’m fine with that. Be upfront about it though. It’s the bank of SMiSA, isn’t it. Just admit it and we can all crack on a lot happier knowing the future path is traditional club ownership, with an amount of fan involvement.
I have a scarf to iron..... Champagne to chill. Songs to sing. COYS.

Agree with Poz. If the (new?) aim of SMiSA is to pay players' wages then be up front about it instead of contribute to the pitch so we have more in the wage kitty. I thought the £10 was to buy the Club and the £2 was to pay for things the Club could not afford nor were interested in funding. Seems like I was wrong. It all goes into the coffers so no wee £2 spends for the next 18 months while SMiSA pays itself for its donation.
I like GS and think he is doing a great job and hope he is around for a long time. But my faith in SMiSA has been eroded.

If i'm being bitter, so be it.

I honestly can't believe it's went that way. I look forward to hearing how smisa consider the funds to be remaining ring fenced. All I can see is they've won the vote on club before business, which is understandable.

That's me out though, I hope everything I've put in only goes to share purchase.

It’s not a surprise to be honest.
The way this has been put out however has been unfortunately so skewed towards an inevitable yes outcome it beggars belief.
Emotional blackmail included to drag along fans who can’t see or understand the single most important objective for SMISA and like sheep press the yes button without a second thought.
To spell this out clearly this vote means we are paying for our shares twice!!!.
Saving up to pay back money loaned to ourselves is an unbelievable way to go about things.
Smisa need to grow a pair & protect all future funds- saving only to buy shares.
This should be enshrined & untouchable  - not risked in any way whatsoever & never used as a political football again..
To know what should be put to a vote, held back as protected is good governance & sound judgement - Smisa need to be a bit more hard nosed & protect the members from themselves, lol  as it looks like every suggestion will get voted through without a care.
Be careful as you go forward SMISA .

Pretty much the result I expected. IMO it excellently demonstrates the issue with fan ownership. That is precisely why I think it was irresponsible to put that kind of vote to the members. Professor John Curtice (a.k.a. Mr Pollster) would have a field day pulling apart this approach to polling.
But SMISA are free to do as they see fit. Good luck and genuinely hope the make a success of it.

    Sorry, not a good response.
Yes a landslide but surely you can see the proposal is weighted in favour of a yes vote?
It's been stated here many will vote yes without even considering the bigger picture?
Ignoring the issues discussed on this thread is, IMO, a dangerous approach.
I sincerely hope there is no damage done to the BTB eventual outcome.
    I see trouble ahead.

I really hope there is people that can make the Agm and ask the hard questions.

Even what do Smisa define as 'ring fenced'.

We're all St. Mirren fans but we have to look after the takeover process as well as the club.
