Sorry to say I am about to log out for the last time. It is amazing how many on here have nothing to do but post nonsense all day every day. Would be bearable if coherent, relevant contributions were included, but too many self serving clowns for me. The lunatics have taken over the asylum.

I was not at the game last night but by all accounts the sectarian bile at Ibrox, while par for the course, was totally unacceptable in a civilised society.
Yet this cancer is pro-actively fed by the vast majority of the media (including the BBC) and there is certainly never any hint of criticism of such behavior. On the contrary, endless bias towards both members of the Old Firm is reflected in the disproportionate coverage they receive based on the so-called reality of their large customer base. For example BT's coverage last night had Boyd, Miller and McCall involved as against who from St Mirren?
Thus this cancer in our society is fueled and maintained and nourished in a healthy state by the media. Look at the amount of column inches given to the OF compared to everyone else.
The general quality of football in Scotland has suffered as a result. Provincial clubs, like St Mirren, do not get the encouragement they deserve and it is no surprise that the likes of Aberdeen, Inverness Caley and St Johnstone struggle against European minnows.
Could the various supporter clubs in Scotland not unite in a campaign to receive fairer media coverage for themselves, instead of being subjected, year-in year-out, to the small-minded and financially-driven mentality of the media?
    Scotland deserves better.

    That's it confirmed. 3-1 Motherwell.
Nearly ten years as a top flight club ended by one of the worst, and most spineless, St Mirren teams I have had the misfortune to have seen since 1976. Shat it in two massive games where there was still a sniff of salvaging something - 5-0 and 3-0 defeats to Motherwell and Ross County. Signed known wasters like Arquin, Gow and Wylde. Sold Kenny McLean on the last day of the window. Bumped up the 'wheeler dealer we want' Gary Teale, after the unadulterated disaster that was Tommy Craig. Could hardly score a goal at one end of the park or keep them out at tbe other end.... all while wearing the worst kit since the bib, sanctioned by a BoD who will now, (after treating us like the knickerwetting keyboard warriors we obviously are), want to court us with a pleading request to renew STs for a Championship containing at least four clubs who will most likely kick our fcuking arses.
Two years and they cannot even update a couple of *** pan*ls. Three or four days after a young cancer hit St Mirren academy player wins a POTY award, and while the BBC and other news outlets run this feelgood factor story, they cannot even mention it on their own website.
Apart from that, look on the bright side. We'll have the best airdome in the division.

So sad to convey this news to fellow Buddies, but lifelong St Mirren fan Alan "Feezie" McPhee died yesterday in Jersey General Hospital. Feezie was a committed Saints fan and a gem of a man. Any time we met we would enthusiastically discuss all things St Mirren and I always left feeling refreshed and somewhat melancholy for the old days of going to games regularly. In spite of distance Feezie would get to as many games as he could and loved his team. We did not meet often enough and that is my loss. He will be sorely missed by his many friends in Jersey and has gone too young. Please take a moment out of your day to think of him and his family whom many on here will know well I'm sure. May he rest in peace

What a great player but he was of his time. These ferocious tacklers got away with a lot back then that would get them in a lot of bother today. There was almost a tacit kind of three hits before you're in bother rule then and Dave exploited it. If Dave Mackay and Jim Goodwin went head to head in a tackle, I honestly believe Jim wouldn't know what hit him. Physically Mackay was built like Davy Lapsley and I must have seen them cross swords at Love Street but I'm damned if I remember anything untoward happening. Despite what I've said about him, I wish we had his like, and Davy Lapsley, playing for St.Mirren and Scotland today.

The thing is communication is vitally important especially when things are going wrong. We've had one sh*t season when the majority of fans who shelled out for season tickets ain't seen a win all season. We've got the club going to be sold next week and a manager sacked and our best player sold.
Call me old fashioned but if I was waiting for a train or a plane and it was delayed or cancelled I'd expected someone to explain what was wrong and when I could expect the next one.
Why should we say it's okay when things are going so badly wrong at the moment for no one to come out and try and explain the situation at the club? This isn't just my opinion just read the forum people are genuinely concerned and upset at the lack of any information.
Don't get me wrong I can understand up to a point the reason for the silence but just read the opinions of good Buddies on here. Lots of them are at the point of chucking it and I know some season ticket holders that have stopped going. When a business stops listening to its customers it usually ends badly.
That said I do respect both sides of the argument.

My point is merely that we are not unique in being a small club in the shadow of the two Glasgow big clubs - made in response to a post from someone who seemed to be suggesting that we should somehow accept our lot as a wee club because of the OF proximity.
I assume you refer to my post Poz, or maybe one that followed.
I actually wasn't inferring that we have to accept our lot, it is the way that things have happened over the years. I actually recall attending Love St when we regularly got crowds of 8 to 10,000 outwith OF games. However over a long period we have managed (and please note I use that word carefully) to screw it up internally.
Other than maybe the Ferguson era when he personally went round the Paisley housing areas and stirred up interest and cajoled the punters to come and see this wee exciting team perform, we have year on year let fans dwindle away.
The OF reference was one that has rankled with me for many years. These were people who wanted to go and watch football, but for whatever reason, be it attracted to a success related team, or some misguided religious reasoning, they left Paisley en mass (pun unintentional) every Saturday and meanwhile the local team had less and less finance coming through the door and we took on a small team boardroom mentality. That hasn't changed.
I am on record as saying that it is time for the BoD's to go, and the sooner the better. Whether we get anyone else in that will have any semblance of enthusiasm or drive is another matter, I'm getting to the stage of believing that almost anything else would be preferable!
One thing that is obvious, if we did get a team that performed better and challenged for the top 4 I bet we would see our crowds grow to around the 6,000 mark

To be honest, it wouldn't take an experienced PR professional to rattle out that type of statement. Anyone with half an ounce of business acumen and pinch of common sense could do it. FFS, I could have done it!
In any event, call it appeasement or whatever you like, but there is just a chance that, by communicating at that level with their fanbase, United might have avoided a few pissed off supporters potentially staying away from their next home match through disillusionment, or in some form of protest. Let's just say two punters decide to roll up after all on account of that statement seeking to explain the club's position (as I said earlier, there is a clear element of symbolism to the gesture). That would amount to, what, £40 - £50 in gate receipts? Given it might take a PR type on £30 p/h an hour at best to rattle out that statement, they have already broken even....at worst.
You see, this is all about keeping people on side. Making people feel valued and respected. Throwing the supporters a bone, if you like. Basic business sense, no? The point I was making was that it was a very small investment in time, effort (and, possibly, money) that might realise a decent return.

If we're not going to bring in any significant resource, particularly in defence, then there's every chance that we'll be relegated this season. We need to finish at least third bottom because whoever ends up second bottom is going to have to win a play-off against Rangers and we're not good enough to do that.
If the BOD aren't planning to invest in the transfer window, then I'd like to see us at least do something like Hearts did the other year - get all the youngsters on 4-year contracts (Mallan, Mclear, Baird, Yaqub, etc, etc) and play them every week from now until the end of the season so that we're at the very least in a decent situation to start again next season.

I think everyone is right to be cautious, and the feeling of dread is only natural given the high profile failures of foreign owners in this country.
That said there are plenty of Scottish owners who have royally f**ked over their clubs too.
Gordon Scott's initial bid would have been the only one that delivered "more of the same" ie: with a wealthy Saints fan in the board room calling the shots.
Every other bid, and I include 10,000 hours in this, has carried it's own degree of risk, and would be different than we have all been used to ever since we all started supporting the club.
We know nothing about these guys yet, other than they are South American. I fail to see how anyone can form an opinion, good or bad, based purely on their nationality !

To avoid players' noses being put out of joint here's the simple solution. Follow the NFL....

Ian Murray / Dibbles Old Paperboy: Head coach.
    Stephen Thompson: Offensive Co-ordinator.
    Jim Goodwin: Defensive Co-ordinator.
    Gary Teale: Special teams co-ordinator.

    Everyone's a winner.
    ==================
    Let's go the whole way
    Bill Belichik managing
    Wilfork in defence
    Brady in midfield
    Edelman on the wing
    Gronkowski up front
We avoid relegation and win Superbowl!

Personally, it would be a shot in the arm, if a complete outsider got the job. We have no idea who has applied, but the one guarantee is that there will have been plenty of interest from both here and abroad. That's the nature of football. I hope SG thinks likewise and we see a manager with fresh ideas and not one hung up on the nuances of The SPL

Thats a slight absurd argument fella.
The Youth Academy proper has only been in place for 4 years and in the first team we have McAusland, McLean, McGinn, Kelly, Naismith and Reilly who have all come through not to mention now the likes of Mallan, Baird and Brown who are now getting game time.
We could have sold John McGinn in the summer but knocked back the bid from Sheffield Utd. Kenny McLean could also have been sold a couple of times during his time with us.
Rome was not built in a day. The club is doing well at all Youth levels and the fruits of that are there for all to see. Hearts have a much vaunted youth setup yet we spanked them 7-0 at the weekend, so it's very unfair to just slam the whole setup without looking at the bigger picture.
Why not look at the positive aspects of what is going on at the club rather than putting a negative slant on everything ?

The 'SM' in SMFC to mean something else? Sheik Mansoor. Man City 'associate club' - giving Man City young talent a place to play in a modern stadium on an award winning surface with a dedicated training complex.
It all fits. New home kit to be Man City's red and black stripes, away kit Man City's light blue.
JD Sports told to fcuk off, Nike International step in. Huge investment in our infrastructure sees DVZ and Basher put on the Hall of Fame panels and the adverts on the scoreboard become legible by cunning use of Helvetica Bold.
Updated HoF panels - legible scoreboard - supporters bar - league champions - Champions League last 16.... In that order. Remember where you read it first.
