He was the best of a bad bunch.
No intensity at all today, terrible performance.  We need to work out a gameplan for playing teams that will sit in against us.  Should have had two up front from the start, probably Sutton.

Great day today, we won whilst not at our best and went top of the league....shows how far we've come.

I had a bunch of German exchange students at the game today who absolutely loved the whole vibe and overall atmosphere, we should savour this.. We can't play brilliantly every week and sometimes we have to win ugly, it's still 3 points at the end of the day.

Reading some of this absolute rubbish about Ross Stewart. He's a young player just getting used to full time football. JR has said a couple times he brought him in as a player for the future. He's had some really impressive performances for the u20s. Think some fans need to get off the young man's back and I'm sure will be a terrific player for The Saints.

Great post, what value is attained by abusing our young players? Some people need to look at the big picture, we are trying to win a league here!! We fought and fought to win this game today against a very stuffy Brechin team!!

Not the best today but delighted and relieved we won, thought McGinn's ball through to Smith for the goal was fantastic. Take the 3 points and move on, if we are to be in the mix at the end of the season these are the types of games we must win and not draw.

ANY chance of a wee bit of respect for Kilby now please?

As my home town team I have seen them play and know what they are capable of.
They were never going to ship 5 or 10 goalsto us but that oponion based on having seen both teams play was apparantly me being negative.

I would gladly have taken a scrappy 2-1 win with no injuries. Indeed, I do so.

Worst result in our history? An embarrassment? That kind of talk belongs at Ibroke and Darkhead!

Show some respect with a wee splash of realism please .

Although it goes against most other aspects of my nature, when it comes to St Mirren, I'm a pretty dedicated happy clapper. I don't have the power to influence anything that happens at the club, but I feel the team would benefit more from my support and blind faith than it would from moaning and berating players. Obviously, things happen that I'm not pleased with; players come in who I'm no sure about, guys leave who I'd want to keep, we lose to teams we should beat, we concede soft goals, but it's all part of being a football fan, if the game ever made me miserable for more than half an hour post-match, I'd stop going. You probably get more lows than highs as a buddie, but that just makes the good times all the more special. The Morton game will be forgotten in a matter of days, but the Millennium Champions, the Challenge Cup Final against Accies, winning the League under Gus, 3-2 at Fir Park, 2-0 away to Falkirk, 2-1 against Rangers, 4-0 vs Celtic, Mallan's goal against Raith, Loy's goal at Easter Road...They'll all live with me forever.
    Happy Clapper for life!

I didn't think we'd win the league after the Falkirk result and I don't think today's gubbing means we're a shite team. We should be able to finish top 4 with our squad but they need to apply themselves every game. We'll be strong at home but I think away games are going to be a challenge if we can't start to defend properly.

Thankfully, Eckersley and Davis will make a difference.

In your opinion. Its all subjective.
Its a bit different, without trying to be too outrageously out there.
The home strip should always be a pretty straightforward black and white striped affair, but there is a bit of scope to be different with the 2nd strip.
Quite how some folk seem to be so outraged by a fitba tap is more bizarre to me than the style of the item itself is ever likely to be.

In all seriousness, McCann getting the job was the only outcome that could realistically have led to Loy coming back to us, IMO.
If Ross told Dundee to piss off (which he sort of did) and they then had to go for a third choice, they'd have clung on out of spite. If Ross had gone there, he likes Loy and may well have kept him to play him.
This is the best outcome all round. And it's good because I think we need one striker of true goalscoring quality to complement Smith, Stewart and, probably, Reilly.

Harry Davis is out for a while and will hopefully be offered a contract.

However, a fit Davis would be a starter in our team. That's the difference.

Clarkson showed nothing in the whole time he's been here to suggest he's deserving of a new deal. The fact that he has a long term injury is irrelevant.

Good news, with the current managerial teams coaching he can become a really solid CB! Did really well when he stepped in for Davis and seemed to grow in confidence as well...

Indeed, thought he was excellent on Saturday!
He's young and will make mistakes but hopefully will learn from them, worth a new deal for me......He does need experience beside him and hopefully Gary Mck decides to stay and we can replace Webster with a decent CB to give us competition in there.

Who celebrates finishing 7th in a league of 10? Not St Mirren and nor should we!

What we celebrated at full time today was so much more than a point. So much more than finishing seventh having been bottom for the vast majority of the season.

What we celebrated was the preservation of history in a Lazarus style rise from the dead.

Truth be told, had we ambled through the season in a humdrum fashion and finished seventh this season, most fans would have been venting displeasure at best.

Instead, almost 2,000 of us stood shoulder to shoulder when not hugging one another, applauding a set of players who gave their all for the cause.

Credit to the Hibs fans at this point. This was THEIR party, but for a few moments, they respectfully allowed us to gatecrash it.

St Mirren FC is 140 years old.
In 140 years, Saints have NEVER played outwith the top two divisions of Scottish football.

I have supported Saints for around 40 years... Almost a third of the clubs existance! I think that entitles me to be passionate about them.

I have seen more lows than highs, more misery than celebrations... But when we DO celebrate, us Buddies know how to savour the moment... We have usually waited decades for it, suffering in the meantime.

Right up until the final whistle today, one more goal by Hibs and Saints would have faced a relegation play-off.

Worse still... Against our Manager Jack Ross' last team Alloa, currently managed by cup winning captain and Saints legend Jim Goodwin.

That thought alone was a painful one.

So... When the whistle blew, we were partially celebrating a hard earned point away to a very good championship winning side in Hibs, but we were celebrating so much more.

Relegation COULD have meant people losing jobs. COULD have resulted in us going part-time and spending unknown years in the doldrums.

We were celebrating the preservation of 140 years history in an escape act that Houdini himself would have admired.

We were letting the players know that we truly appreciated their efforts and know they gave their all.

We were letting them know that for 95 minutes today we were going into every challenge with them and were willing them over one final hurdle.

In a team filled with teenagers and youngsters, the inhumane pressure they have faced up to and overcome is testimony to the leadership of Jack Ross and his inspirational Captain Marvel Stephen McGinn.

We were celebrating their coming of age and the potential birth of something that hasn't excited me as much since a young manager called Alex Ferguson got me addicted in the first place!

No. Nobody should celebrate finishing seventh in a league of ten.

    I hope we never do!

    Slainte.
