As a few have mentioned on here, the team you support is generally dictated by who your parents/grandparents/family members support.

When I was a wee boy in the early 80s, my late Dad took me to all St Mirren home matches and if they were away from home he would take my to Morton, Dumbarton or Clydebank games, whoever was at home.

I will always be grateful to him for not taking me to either of the ugly sisters.

Born in Paisley and lived all may days in the wonderful town. A good number of my buds who attend games live in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Irvine, Barassie, St Andrews and Kirkcaldy. Only a few of us still stay in Paisley.

Same here Thornhill hospital but brought up in Paisley, left to join the army but came home again when got out. My family support one of the ugly sisters, the new one lol [emoji23] I chose to support the buddies, my kids stay in Paisley & support our beloved team. Good to hear we have fans from out with Paisley.
My son was born in 1987 what a year that was, he was still in nappies when I took him to his first game, he's a ST holder like myself so glad he has seen his team win a cup. We've all seen the ups & downs with our club, we dont always agree with each other on this forum but we all want the same thing. We'll be back to the good days again, let's stuck in there.

Born in Glasgow, early years in Dunfermline then brought up in Houston and now live in Kilwinning.

I live in a small street and there are another 2 Saints fans living there. I also see a car from Stevenston that has a St Mirren badge sticker taking up the whole back window.

Unfortunately still too many Rangers And celtic buses leave the town.

I've spent two nights of my life living in Paisley. The day I was born, and the night I was married. Fortunately I can't remember much about either occasion.
I spent my early years living in Battlefield and my Grandfather would take me to watch Queens Park when they were at home, and when they weren't my Dad would take me to watch his team - Clyde - they seemed to play at home on alternate weeks.  After we moved to Hillington my Grandfather was doing this quiz thing with me. "Where do Aberdeen come from " - "Aberdeen". Where do Clyde come from" - "The River Clyde". "Where do St Mirren come from?" - "Mirren?" - "Nah Paisley". "Really I was born in Paisley can we go watch them this week".....and the rest is history.
Living in Hillington, Rangers were actually my local team by around 0.1 miles.
Moved to Law Village in Lanarkshire in 1990 and fell out with the St Mirren board in 2002.

I like Sutton, happy for him to stay, but my view is that Jack Ross, should he dispense with pretty much anyone in the squad he came into, won't attract my criticism for doing so. This is the moment Jack Ross' success or failure as Saints boss really begins. Whatever he decides to do, having now had a good look at the squad, it's his call and I hope the changes work out.

it's alright signing Loy. But the supply to the strikers has been abysmal. Tells you how good a goalscorer Sutton to have scored 9 in all competitions. But good luck to Rory Loy.

Generally I think it sends out all the right signals when we honour the length of a manager's contract and when manager's are in place for a decent length of time to take more than a short term view of what needs done at the club.
Having said that, and also having said I'd like Jack Ross to succeed for us and keep us up this season and take us back to the SPL in he next few seasons, I don't think JR should be bulletproof no matter what the results. I don't accept we have the worst squad in the league or that when Ross came in with 28 games left and teams like Dumbarton had a 2 point start on us and Ayr had 4 points more that those teams were uncatchable because of the squad Ross inherited.
My preferred option remains Jack Ross keeps us up this season. My next option is we go down narrowly. If we are relegated by a country mile and continue to lose two thirds of our league games under Jack Ross this season and don't win any of the key games left I would genuinely wonder if Ross can win us a promotion next year. Had we appointed a Jimmy Calderwood or Terry Butcher in October (or given Alex Rae more time) I don't think the gap between ourselves and the rest of the league would be as bad as it look now and I would have been very confident Calderwood or Butcher could have had us off bottom place by now instead of looking like it will take a medium-sized miracle to escape the drop now.

Okay points per game average under Rae was 1.26. Points per game average under Ross is 0.67. A drop of almost 50%, downhill rapidly indeed.
What's even more concerning is that Jack has had a remarkably kind fixture list in his first twelve matches. He's already had the four teams immediately above us at home.
Dumbarton, Dunfermline, Ayr and Queen of the South have all came to Paisley. His return from these four vital home 'six pointers'? One draw and three defeats. And the draw only came after Ayr got a dodgy red card and we managed to snatch an equaliser.
That's an almost unbelievably poor return. Not even the most gloomy fan could have dreamt up us only getting one point from those four games.
One thing I found interesting from the post match fall out after we managed to throw away two points at home to ten man Morton last week was the reports from fans sitting in the main stand. They said that Jack was repeatedly telling the team to push up, but was being ignored.
How concerning is that? We have a manager who - by his own admission - can't motivate the players to play to their full potential for him. Not only this, but according to fans the players ignore his in game instructions from the sideline.
There's quite clearly some leadership/respect issues going on there. It's little wonder we are where we are.
Those issues become more apparent when you contrast his initial impact this season with Raes last season. Quick caveat, I'm no Rae fan and thought his sacking was the right call at the time. However, when he came in last December there was a clear upturn in the clubs fortunes with largely the same group of players he inherited.
The football didn't improve, we were brutal to watch before and after he arrived. However, he managed to get the players playing for him. He organised and motivated them and as a result we stayed up comfortably.
There's clearly going to be no mass clear out or mass arrivals in this window. Jack simply had to do what Rae did and get the players he inherited playing for him, and he simply hasn't.
What Ross does have going for him is the fact that we have went through so many managers recently. Therefore he's getting a level of patience that wasn't shown to Craig, Teale, Murray and even Rae to an extent. Lucky man!

Fact Check: St Mirren are bottom of the Championship - the Second Tier of Scottish Football - 22nd place.... And only that high because it's physically impossible for other teams to go above St Mirren. St Mirren have won 2 league matches all season - just 2. St Mirren have one of top four highest wage budgets in the Championship. Despite an annual turnover in excess of £2m and the wage budget being below the PCW maximum recommended figure the St Mirren board had to ask a Community Benefit Society for a £15k interest free loan to fix an Undersoil Heating system that hasn't been needed all winter long and which really ought never to be used. The also had to ask the Community Benefit Society for a £9k gift, a possible breach of the asset lock, which the Community Benefit Society sold to their members as being vital to give St Mirren the best possible chance of avoiding relegation. This appears to have been blown signing a self confessed sex pest who Aberdeen fans say has become bored with football, who was massively culpable in the 9-1 trouncing Aberdeen U21s took from a Motherwell squad with an average age of 17 and who appears to have chosen not to play for his new club at the weekend so he can enjoy a holiday.

And in the meantime the new board has managed to lose a £100k+ pa kit and sponsorship deal and it seems has put a stop to the selling of scratch cards at the stadium, an enterprise that was said to to have brought in £30k last season. And in the meantime promises to customers about free tickets for beating the Chairman in a road race and promises of an event for fans displaced at the end of last season for the "Rangers" match continue to be broken.

Yet some will still tell us all is well at the club, that Jack Ross is a superb manager, that Gordon Scott and Tony Fitzpatrick are doing a great job, that SMISA are beyond criticism and that everything is the fault of the last board who apparently left such a tangled mess no-one has been able to do anything for 6 months. Recruiting new fans is on hold. Whilst others celebrate the news that some season tickets won't be getting renewed. And the single hope of some positive business news that the club seems to be clinging on to is that Hibs might weaken their promotion challenge by selling John McGinn so St Mirren can cash in on their small proportion of the transfer fee.

Club in crisis - I'd f**king say so as would any sober level headed individual

I'm not suggesting sacking Ross yet, but I also don't accept we have the worst squad in the Championship by a mile argument and what do you expect Ross to do argument. Whoever was appointed.
Ross inherited a St Mirren team only 2 points adrift of Dumbarton, 3 behind Dunfermline, 4 behind Ayr and 5 behind Morton. In his 12 games in charge we have closed the gap on no one else in the league other than Queen of the South who were top when Ross took over and 14 points ahead of us and who didn't win from then until today and are still 12 points clear. The gap between ourselves and Dumbarton has more than quadrupled, the gap between us and Dunfermline has quadrupled, the gap between us and Ayr has almost doubled and the gap between us and Morton has almost quadrupled.

I prefer to believe in the facts.

    Alloa with Ross relegated

Saints rooted to bottom of the table with Ross

I fail to see the 'he has the makings of a good manager' that some claim

Is that because , we are playing better ? Or he interviews well ?

It seems if you disagree that he's doing well , you must be wrong and not allowed an opinion , yet , the stats don't lie and the people who can see that get lambasted.

He should remain to the end of the season , there is still a chance we can get out of this , it's definitely not over yet.

If it turns out we do get relegated ? Then he should go , how do you support 2 relegations on 2 seasons and call a manager who achieves that as ' the makings of a good manager ' ?

I believe in stats , not lip service.

The myth that he inherited a car crash from Rae needs to be binned straight away. If he was unable to work with the group of players we currently have, he shouldn't have been appointed. We had too many games before the transfer window to appoint someone who has showed to be so result inept.

Duffy showed his experience with the players he brought on, TBF Morton had a few chances & came at us in the second half again IMO that was down to Duffy's experience, he made the right changes where we made the wrong ones. As said in previous post we sat far to deep so think we really knew a goal was coming. I do think we are improving, the young players are doing great but I think their inexperience shows up at times yesterday's game was an example. Dumbarton result yesterday really showed that we are still in for a rough ride. Here's to 2017 to all of us for for showing our loyalty towards the team, the club needs us to stick by them. Onwards & upwards hopefully. Happy new year.

    Ps
Really felt like a defeat yesterday but they did deserve the point [emoji30]
